Thank you Prof. very informative lecture, I want to know about the electron storage inside the photocatalyst, as now a days more research is done on trapping/storing the electron so could be used in the absence of light, can you please explain the phenomenon and what kind of materials can be used for storing electrons.

When the ionic character of the M-O bond increase, the top of the valence band (VBmax) become less positive and the bottom of the conduction band (CBmin) become less negative; compared to RHE. This lowers the redox potential of the CB electrons and VB holes. You want your CBmin to be more negative than the reduction potential of water(H+/H2) and VBmax to be more positive than water oxidation potential (H2O/O2). I hope this helps. However, I didn't yet understand how the ionic character affects the band positions.
