Only one of our group had a new bike, A Honda 250 I recall, lots of chrome, indicators and electric start. Everyone else had ancient BSA's, Triumphs and Lambrettas, as everyone had at least changed the clutch plates if not stripped the engine and reassembled with red hermitite to staunch the oil leaks I think we'd have been insulted if asked if we knew how to check the oil. @@joebloggs9243
@BriCairns3 ай бұрын
Did they do all these checks in the 70s
@SurreyAlan3 ай бұрын
@BriCairns back then we all had our bikes or cars apart just about every other weekend, most with old BSA's, Triumphs would have rebuilt them with hermetite to stop the leaks, if you had a car you'd be swapping gearboxes from the breakers until you found a better one hence the how to check the oil questions seem incredibly basic.
@BriCairns3 ай бұрын
@SurreyAlan I remember my dad having a big user manual book for his Austin allegro instead of the folded up sheets of paper you get as a user manual now a days, certainly seemed a lot simpler back in the 70s n 80s
@SurreyAlan3 ай бұрын
@@BriCairns My local library actually had manuals for bikes, Lambrettas and cars. They also had years of Car Mechanics mags bound into books, it was heaven. Back then you could walk into a BMC dealer and ask for a washer for a gearbox, they'd look it up in a thumbed book and go out the back and get it. You're right, it was a lot simpler back then.

Full licence to carry a pillion what a joke England is
@sjv65982 жыл бұрын
5:05 I disagree with not using the kill switch. If you use it to kill the engine every time you will instinctively know where it is in the event of a throttle sticking instead of removing a hand from the handlebars and fumbling for the keys. The switch will not wear out 🙂
@jackgonzales-alexander11042 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and if you ask anyone who rides they’ll tell you it’s also a good way to fuck up the timing in the engine… why would you go on a reputable bike channels video, learn from a guy with more experience than you, then trash his advice? Do what you want on your test, do what you want to your bike. He is correct, you shouldn’t use the kill switch.
@danielkerr41002 жыл бұрын
If you don't know where the big red button is on your bike then you're retarded, you shouldn't use it just for the sake of it
@nucleardemigod2161 Жыл бұрын
Okay let's say you use it thousands upon thousands of times. What happens is it eventually becomes worn out and may cause it to stop working properly. If your above scenario happens while it's not working, you'll then have to take your hand off the bar to turn the ignition off which can cause you to lose control and potentially crash... - it's not designed to be used regularly and will eventually wear out.
@MaxTheMadGamer3 жыл бұрын
Can you not carry pillions on an A2?
@thestrippingharibo23703 жыл бұрын
you can carry pillions on A1, A2 and A. Just not cbt.
@nucleardemigod2161 Жыл бұрын
You did get one question wrong. You don't need a full license to carry a passenger, you're only required to have passed your mod 1 test. You're not allowed to carry passengers with an L plate, mod 1 removes the need for L plates which then gives you the ability to carry passengers... so you don't actually need a full license
@camriderpeterborough5729 Жыл бұрын
A MOD 1 test does not get rid of your L plates, you have to pass the MOD 2 test to do this and therefore then you can carry a pillion. Hope this clears up any confusion
@Brandon25043 Жыл бұрын
You do require a full licence to carry a pillion passenger and that requires you to complete a CBT course, theory (for a motorcycle), modular 1 and 2. its also required to remove L plates, if you complete everything but the mod 2 then you are still a learner due to not having a full licence, unless you have a A1 or A2 licence and are upgrading to the next licence etc in which case as long as the bike in question meets the requirements of your class of licence; (for example: if you have a A1 licence you can ride up to 11 kW (and a power-to-weight ratio not more than 0.1kW per kg) so long as you meet those requirements (A1 licence and the mentioned restrictions above) you can ride without L plates and carry a pillion, however while undertaking your upgrade to your licence you cannot ride anything more than a 125cc without a qualified instructor/examiner will require L plates, and of course cannot carry a pillion passenger until you have the licence for that bike.
