The black one is shitty, use the yellow dat0 adapter. And I did not solder it because : The eMMC chip has undergone a heating process inside the factory with precise parameters and an ideal environment. Reheating the eMMC chip in a DIY method will alter the crystalized lead-free tin balls under it. And at some point, the ball will crack due to heat from the console or other factors like moisture, external force, etc. So I chose the less risky, less hassle method to install the DAT0 adapter, so the repair process will be less hassle when it fails. BTW, can you guarantee that your chosen method is 100% perfect without failures? I guess not.

Hello ! You have made a great tutorial with great video, thank you! 😃 I have 2 questions to ask you before trying to mod mine 🤗: 1)At 14:18 for the CPU Flex: I saw that you have not soldered the 2 grounds tabs on the bottom, so these 2 points are not really needed ? 2) Is it really necessary to upgrade the firmware at the very first step, before tear it down to put the modchip ? Thank you !

when lead-free solder quickly crystallizes, it will be brittle and cause cracks, so all thermal profiles for lead-free soldering gradually cool the board to at least a hundred (more correctly, to the solidus temperature of the alloy) and only then the board cools itself. so if you solder dat0 correctly, then there can be no cracks when using the correct thermal profile for both heating and cooling
@sthetixofficial
@sthetixofficial Жыл бұрын
I wont use that method again bro. logically all "friction" connection methods exist on the console itself, like the the flex ribbon cable, the speaker, the screen, etc. Yes they use a solid locking mechanism, that is why i pushed the dat0 a bit before locking it with solder. each person or installer has each own theory but I am sure no one is perfect, including me.
@Kostrach
@Kostrach Жыл бұрын
@@sthetixofficial when connecting without soldering, all connector contacts are coated with metals that do not have oxides, such as rhodium or gold. there will be a connection of a solder ball with a cable, and if there is a yellow protective coating on the cable that prevents oxidation, then the ball does not have this. under normal conditions and perfect cleanliness, it will take months. But in aggressive weather, this can happen quite quickly. in Russia, if you do not solder, then such a contact exists for about 3 weeks due to temperature and humidity.
@sthetixofficial
@sthetixofficial Жыл бұрын
I do appreciate your thoughts and theory & facts. But I will keep it this way. I've have even tried to remove the emmc chip and sandwiched a dat0 wire and still.. It cracked after some time - although I have made it sure the connection is secured and used a good solder paste.
@Kostrach
@Kostrach Жыл бұрын
@@sthetixofficial to do this correctly, you need to use a lead paste and be sure to remove the old balls. I am using Sn60Pb40 solder. This one cools better not to form micro cracks and has high strength. try it and it should work

Why the hell I think I was going to try this... lol. The tools, the soldering skills, the dexterity, the knowledge to troublshoot... for someone with zero experience or know how where do you even begin to start learning? Seriously what project would you recommend that would eventually lead up to the skill set and knkw how to take on hard modding a switch? I want to learn.
