Very Nice weathering, I use soft pastel chalks, and scrape them with a razor blade from a boxcutter, make a nice powder in different colors from black to whatever color you want, my brushes range from from the foam brush you use to Q-tips, small paint brushes to ladies makeup brushes, You should see the look on some ladies faces in a store when I am looking at makeup things, LOL, They do a second look at me and walk away, LOL, They have no Idea I am looking at things to weather a warbird! I get some really nice effects with those brushes and certain color makeups trays. Guys, Don't be afraid to look into this as you just might find some good colors and brushes to do your weathering in the makeup section at a store. Just for fun, If a lady looks at you , Ask her what she would prefer on a battle worn Spitfire, She will walk away and leave you to your selection in peace. Thanks Stuart for this as I just ordered this Gladiator as it came back in stock.

How nice it is to be sat in the sunshine in my garden in the UK, watching you in your. A great video with some very interesting and useful tips, some I’ve tried in the pass and some are new to me, which has got me thinking of revisiting my Durafly DC3 🤔. I’v done my silver DC3 in a Dan-Air scheme, using some of the decals from the Tony Nijhuis York. The biggest problem I had was the paint lifting, and now keeping it looking good, she also looks just a little to clean. It hadn’t accrued to me to coat it with lacker or varnish 🙄. So next project to add to the list after a trip to the pound shop for a new set of makeup brushes, I wonder if my daughter would notice, if I borrowed some of hers! maybe not a good idea 😅.

Hi Roy nice to hear from you and very happy to hear that the video gave a little inspiration for you to try the same on your DC-3. The best thing about the methods shown in the video is that they are super easy and require only basic items available from almost all shops etc so very glad to hear you're giving it a go, you'll be pleased with the results. Stuart.

Talcum powder...what a great technique! I imagine it will work even better with a bit longer dry time. Love the weathering techniques. We are painting our engine, adding a few scale details, and adding a pilot. We plan to do a scale flight video with it. Looking forward to seeing part two ! Awesome!

Great job Stuart, I must admit the purple tape really looked good on the wings, made the wings pop. The talc tip from Brendan really changed the game. Brilliant weathering, something I want to sip my toes into one way. 👍🏻

You never talk about the varnishing in this or part 2. What did you use for the varnish? Spray can? Brush on? Type of varnish, etc?

Water based acrylic satin spray can.
