MOD TO IMPROVE THE SHIFTER for G29 + G920

This mod increases the force needed to shift gears to give a more realistic feel. The mod makes throw of the gear shifts feel more positive.
The original shifter needs about 500-600g of force to shift. The modded shifter needs about 900-1000g of force for each shift.
This is a quick and easy mod to apply to your Logitech G Driving Force Shifter for G29 and G920 or G27.

I only use my shifter to drive the MX-5 in iRacing, and honestly it's fine without any mods. I have two Miatas and have driven a last gen MX-5 Cup car and you can shift those things with your little finger.

After having this shifter for a month is started squeeking badly while shifting. I took the entire thing appart and used Marine/Lithium Grease to oil it. Now its silent and shifts much smoother. Cant exept much for 40-50 bucks I guess.

This seems like a really cool mod, although you’d probably want to make the 3D printed parts out of strong filaments like polycarbonate or nylon due to the amount of wear and tension these thin parts would experience over time.

I ordered one from amazon as well, and I don't really like it. It doesn't snap back to neutral on it's own like it used to when you put it out of gear, and that is just not realistic. Is yours doing the same, and if so, do you have a solution?

Just did this mod on my shifter, definitely makes a world of difference, hopefully it lasts awhile before needing to be replaced.

I got this mod and the gate that goes on the metal shifter shaft broke on the first night. I glued the broken section with normal superglue then coated every millimeter of it with the gorilla glue that bonds metal, wood and ceramics etc, and left it for 2 days then filed off the excess hardened glue. I re installed it with some grease inside the gate and added a weighted alluminium shifter knob. It feels and sounds much more solid and satisfying and hasnt broke since i did this 6 months ago. If it breaks again, ill repeat the process. I was going to upgrade to a th8a but by the time you buy an adapter as well your talking about a small fortune. These small but effective mods will do nicely at only 15 quid for the mod and gear knob combined !

To be clear i coated the WHOLE of the gate, not just the broken section. Top, bottom, sides and inside where it touches the metal gearstick. I was also considering a wheel rim adaption as the g29 DOES look a little toy like. I solved this potentially costly and disastrous venture by carefully painting the garish red selector wheel with black model aircraft paint, applying a 30mm 3d effect mercedes sticker in the wheels centre and 3d bullet button ammo rim stickers for an i phone which fit perfectly and a 3d pool table 8 ball sticker for x/enter/go button. This mod may sound tasteless, but it now looks like a new, customised wheel and not a toylike ps4 controller and people have asked me about when did i get a new wheel? Also, taking out the rubber block from the brake pedal feels so much better. The g29 settup looks and feels like a new rig just for a few pounds!

Just to add, i put the 3d bullet ammo stickers on the square, triangle, circle and blue buttons eradicating the PlayStation 4 vibe and they dont fall off! The 3d mercedes one is a question of taste as you can get them for most makes of cars from Amazon. Its because i love the mercedes amg V12 in driveclub vr.

It is much easier to modify spring preload and ball fixing windows inside the shifter. I use shift knob from lada, that is ~2.5-3 times longer. Even so, there is more then enough preload and shifting feels very stiff. Nowhere near sw20 for example, but quite comparable to random modern daily drive car. And you don't have to 3d-print anything for this.

It gives your hands and feet more to do which involves you in the game more. I play driveclub vr which has different types of cars which have automatic, sequential,h pattern and left/right hand driver seat positions. I ignore this and just get on with it and enjoy my shifting!

Best mod imo is to sell this kids toy and buy a thrustmaster TH8A

Which also means buying a Thrustmaster wheel, and if you don't want to be sacrificing wheel quality (compared to the G920) you're looking at about $470+ to get the TX leather (or a TX servo, a good Ferrari wheel, the nice pedals, and the shifter) vs the Logitech at about $360 for wheel and shifter. I certainly agree that the TH8A shifter is eons better than this one, so you get what you pay for really. There's really no right or wrong way to go, simply decide how much you're willing to pay and buy accordingly.

Those things break so easily I used it for a month and two gears don't function anymore. I switched over to the G920 and I haven't been happier. Much better quality and more accurate FFB.

The force feedback on my 1 week old thrustmaster 300rs broke i actually laughed at how plastic feeling the wheel is. i immediately returned it and chose the Logitech G29. And jeeeeez, the pedals were light years ahead of thrustmasters, the wheel was fantastic and the force feedback didn't feel dead as thrustmasters. On the logitech you feel every bump, every road deformation precisely. I find the force feedback on the G29 to be more precise and accurate. Thrustmasters wheels just have force. I gladly went with the logitech and it was way cheaper, it cost me 299 USD with the shifter! while the thrustmaster was at 350 dollars, black friday.

John Oster The TH8A only needs a USB port for the PC so its a individual input, not sure how its for the console, I am using a G29 with the TH8A, they work individually from each other
