I have never thought about my style showing my personality. I buy things I like, so I guess that does reflect me. Thank u for such thoughtful content.

A few things. First, I'd add *bins* to the list because bins, baskets, and trays (while similar) serve slightly different purposes. Second, another tip is to look at the weight (both actual and visual) of the items you're putting on shelves. Generally speaking, larger, heavier items tend to look better and be safer on the bottom or lower shelves (less of a tipping hazard). Third, while symmetrical rooms are highly traditional, most designers will encourage their clients to use odd numbers in their decor, grouping items in 3s (as suggested here) or in 5s or (occasionally) 7s. It's all about visual appeal. Finally, what you say about choosing items that express your personality and interests is *so* important. It's easy to feel insecure about one's ability to organize or style an area. Another person I follow has created their own version of shelves and they have a sheet available that lists all the items to recreate the shelves they made. So, their shelves were a bit on the generic side anyway (probably to have wide appeal) and now there are a bunch of people out there copying those generic shelves *exactly*. How boring and impersonal is that? It reminds me of the folks who buy books by the yard to display as decor items and to show how "intellectual" they are. No. Just no. Express *yourself*, not someone else! Thanks for another good video Steffi!

I cannot get over how good the black wall looks. Such a glow up! Love this video!!!!! I have so many areas I want to play with using these tips!

I noticed that the black wall really makes the wood shelves pop because the black metal frame sort of disappears into the wall colour.

Beautiful work! And great tips. Sharing an alternative that works for me - I've removed almost all my shelving, because I realized I was just using it for non-functional decorative stuff, and it was consuming a lot of time to clean the stuff and move it to clean underneath it. And then I moved and was like WOW all this weight (shelving) and packing (fragile items) for just some knick-knacks I have on display. If a wall space feels bare, wall hangings are less hassle to clean or move, and leave more floor space available.

Your videos are so perfect right now! I moved out of my parents' house last month. Watching your videos about your own relocation struggles has helped and my apartment is slowly starting to look the way I want it to be thanks to your styling guides. Also I've just started purchasing decor for some shelves yesterday so this tutorial is right on time for me! :)

I am guilty of the succulent and candle:-) Also, trying to fit ALL my special things on my shelves. It can get a bit cluttered. I am going to re-look at my shelves this weekend. Thanks Steffi!

Good tips. I'm going practice gathering everything first instead of running around looking for what will go with. By the way, Jim Morrison is my secret boyfriend too!

So I have a bunch of comic figures and statues, and I’m trying to figure out how to make these look stylish in my apartment and not just a bunch of geeky clutter
