Everything is perfect: the actors' performance, the way father play with childrens, the place taken by the small soldier, which grows up

This is a fantastic version of what I believe to be one of the most important songs of our time. Brilliant.

I'm not usually affected by songs or movies, but this one reminds me of my father's brother who went to war. My father was very young at the time, and they lost my grandfather and grandmother early. My father's older brother ran away from army training and returned to cry at my father, who was only 13 years old, and told him that he was afraid of death and afraid to die And he left him, so my father would return with him to the recruitment camps and stay with him until he fell asleep and then leave, even though the sounds of war were close to them and my father was a child at the time. I lost my uncle a year later and my father was left alone in life, so he now cherishes us very much, we are his only family.

Can't stop thinking about how relevant this song still is... and how sad that is...
@missingnoghost2 жыл бұрын
0:43 The transition to the chorus/funeral here just kills me. The preceding lyrics coming to fruition, the way the coffin seems to sway in time to the beat at first, but most of all the swell of the violin. The sound of it somehow unites the idyll of the childhood segments with the pang of sadness you get when that scene comes on directly after the boy leaves his friends behind. Really drives home the idea of things left undone, unsaid.

In Kate Bush's version, army dreamers has doble meaning: the desire of the boy to be part of the army but also the traumatic dreams of the mother of the soldier.

I heard this version of army dreamers a year or so ago. It made me just Stop. So so beautifully delivered in such a seemingly simple way with such clarity it just brought and still brings the whole song and its cruel story to life. We are one week on from the centenary Remembrance Day. Before I ever had children I used to get very upset about the exploitation of war, but now I have two sons it's an even more frightening subject. An incredible song and a truly wonderful cover ❤️ Thankyou Moddi

We saw a Moddi acoustic set of banned music at Green Man in 2017, he was superb. However, after a few months we kind of forgot about him until Army Dreamers came on the radio today and it set us off chatting about his set. So here we are, enjoying him all over again and he's just as good as we remember.

My uncle Sammy ( My mom's brother) was killed in Vietnam the year before I was born in '66. I am looking forward to meeting him someday in heaven where we can live for eternity!
@nanashipersonne41515 ай бұрын
I‘m doubtful that you‘ll ever meet your uncle. I‘m saying this because I think it‘s negligent to give hope in cases where there is none. To somehow make war not as bad as it is. There is hope, but not when it comes to war. The only hope is for it to end and to not happen again. It just takes and gives little in return to those who sacrificed. I think the bitter healthy truth is the kinder mercy than the white sugar coated lie. However, those people might live on in us and do not take the wrong lessons from it and repeat the same mistakes.

0:34 Just wondering why the lyrics were changed from "My daddy's hero" to " A mommy's hero"?
@moddimusikk7 жыл бұрын
Copyright issues. In the original interpretation, released in September, the line "I've a bunch of purple flowers to decorate a mommy's hero" had been replaced with "daddy's" to reflect the position of the male singer, but had to be changed back again in this version.

Our little army boy Is coming home from B.F.P.O I've a bunch of purple flowers To decorate a mammy's hero Mourning in the aerodrome The weather warmer, he is colder Four men in uniform To carry home my little soldier [Chorus] What could he do? Should have been a rock star But he didn't have the money for a guitar What could he do? Should have been a politician But he never had a proper education What could he do? Should have been a father But he never even made it to his twenties What a waste, army dreamers Oh, what a waste of army dreamers [Verse 2] Tears o'er a tin box Oh, Jesus Christ, he wasn't to know Like a chicken with a fox He couldn't win the war with ego Give the kid the pick of pips And give him all your stripes and ribbons Now he's sitting in his hole He might as well have buttons and bows [Chorus] What could he do? Should have been a rock star But he didn't have the money for a guitar What could he do? Should have been a politician But he never had a proper education What could he do? Should have been a father But he never even made it to his twenties What a waste, army dreamers Oh, what a waste of army dreamers Oh, what a waste of all them army dreamers Army dreamers, army dreamers [Outro] B.F.P.O Army dreamers Mammy's hero B.F.P.O Army dreamers Mammy's hero B.F.P.O No hard heros Mammy's hero B.F.P.O Army dreamers Mammy's hero B.F.P.O No hard heros

I have all Kate Bush's albums but I feel the same, I get a slightly odd humorous undertone to the original version and that follows through into the video as well. This cover is absent of that and shows how tragic the words really are and the video doubles down on that.
