As far as the face swaps go, you missed the most important detail. The reason we swap their faces for the PS2 version, the reason we care that they changed their faces at all isnt the way the model looks, or the texture resolutions The reason the old face is better is because of FACIAL EXPRESSIONS. Tidus and Yuna had very expressive faces in the PS2 version, and the HD versions made them much more rigid, cutting these details

The change of Tidus and Yuna faces is the worst possible thing a dev could do and for some reasons when they speak sometimes it's not even in synch. PS2 version was gold!

Warning on the subtitles with JP VO mod, for X-2 it prevents you from getting a couple of percentage points due to the different timing/triggers so it's missed in a couple of field cut scenes. The only one I nailed down where it was, was during the massage scene, so if you're using that mod while 100%ing FFX-2 then disable it for that (and maybe the whole game after that because I think it happens again later on). Most annoying thing is you can't see you have it off in-game due to rounding until many hours later, but you could inspect your save file I suppose. funny thing is Sqenix officially stated having eng sub with jp voice was "impossible", wonder if it's because of something like that or they genuinely were dumb and thought it was impossible. X does work perfectly, and x-2's VO is less janky and has a style change anyway, so it's fine to play x in jp then x-2 in eng anyway.

We now have a complete PS2 face restoration mod! The person who made the PS2 Tidus mod I told you about a couple weeks ago has been working tirelessly on the rest of the cast, and now they're all here! Tidus, Yuna, Rikku, Wakka, Lulu, Auron, and Seymour all now have high quality models with their true, actual, original PS2 faces! I don't think they plan to do Kimahri due to all the fur being difficult to work with, but still, we can now play the HD Remaster with the original faces of every other main playable character as well as the closest thing this game has to a main villain, something we all thought was impossible for years, and that's worth celebrating.

My first Final Fantasy game I’ve ever beaten. I really love it. I need to play the other FFs though. I have played 7 (disc 1 completed), a little bit of the beginning of 8 and 9. Beat 15, played 13 until I got to the open zone area. And saved immediately after leaving it and never came back. Played 12 a little bit too. I need to go back and finish those games. Can’t wait to try out these mods.

FFX Remaster is always one of the first games I buy for a new system starting with my own PS3, and always gets a new playthrough every year. But I never really got used to the cutscenes in the remaster so I always find myself going back to the PS2 version (also, always right around Mushroom Rock). First with the undub patch, the widescreen hack, and now with the HD texture upscale pack, (and custom ReShade presets) it's the best way to experience FFX again and again

Just want to add that the fast-forward mod for cutscenes works wonders in blitzball, unlike the Remasters 2x/4x modes, which don't during blitz. Getting Wakka's ultimate stuff is fast now.

also small tip, if you use lossless scaling you can also play ffx- or x-2 on 60 fps or higher while its still locked @30 yes visually/feel its 60 or more it feels so much different playing ffx on 144fps XD and no im not joking [and no its not a x2 speedup like speedmode)

Sin Reborn difficulty mod is a godsend for those that have pummeled the game to death and beaten bosses like Penance w/ ease. I've died multiple times in my current playthru, even in random battles if I get ambushed. While all it does is up the stats of enemies, it forces you to use every avenue the game has to win many fights. I use Rikku's Steal and Use abilities plus her overdrive way more than ever. Old strategies fall to the wayside. The Seymour fights are brutal! It's been a hugely fun and rewarding experience.

The undying FF of legend the one and only that will forever and ever be in our hearts ! 💗 That blitzball kid mod tho got me rolling 😂😂🤣 Also one additional mod I may suggest though I don't remember if I tested it on FFX is called Reshade it works with most games and gives a superb modern graphics look to any game and is a super simple 1 click install. It gives you plenty of options to download and enable/disable at will like Bloom, HDR, DoF etc. Now I don't know which leak to believe about whether they secretly working on a remake, a X-3 sequel or neither nor do I know which is a better idea in practice but we for sure crave more content about this title though if it's something that completely goes away from its root and pisses on the original like X-2 then pls no.

Great video! I just spent the last few weeks collecting and installing mods for FFX so this video came out just a tad too late to help me personally, but it's still great for people to refer to. Here's some mods I like that you didn't talk about: RUZ's face mod for Tidus is probably the best one if you want a PS2-like Tidus, but what about Yuna? Personally, I think that "PS2 Original Face" by UniCB (aka Mori-chan) is the best for her. This mod also includes a face for Tidus, but in my opinion, it's not that great. Install this mod first for Yuna's face, then overwrite Tidus's face with the one made by RUZ. Quagnog's menu mod is very nice, but if you want more options for how you can make the menus look, you can check out "6 Menu Backgrounds" by FinalMantasyX. As the name suggests, this mod gives you six different pictures you can choose from, all of them being screenshots from the game's cutscenes, to use as a background for the menu. Something I feel goes well with a menu background mod would be "PS2 Portraits" by Eprade. As the name suggests, this replaces each character's menu portrait with their original one from the PS2 version of the game. While they don't look too terribly different from the remaster's normal portraits, I feel that the white background around the PS2 portraits looks better when they're placed on top of a fancy menu background. If you want to add a little spice to a playthrough, you can't go wrong with "All Party Members Renamable" by Karifean. It does exactly what the name says. It doesn't affect voice lines, obviously, but any instance of a character's name in text (subtitles, menus, etc) will be changed. Changing the characters' names might not be something you want to do on a first playthrough, but who doesn't love giving everyone funny names on a replay? For a little more spice, how about "Swap-able Overworld Characters" by HeartlessSeph? If you don't like running around outside of battle as Tidus all the time, this mod lets you control whoever you want on the overworld. You can pick any of the game's party members, as well as Seymour. This mod also supports X-2, and has a lot more options in that game, allowing you to run around as any of X-1 or X-2's party members, as well as a number of major NPCs. Speaking of X-2, it doesn't have nearly as many mods, but here's a few I'd like to highlight: "Better UI Texture" by Drogean recolors the menu in X-2. You can choose from blue, purple, or a brighter version of the menu's normal colors. There are no alternate backgrounds available like there are for FFX, but being able to pick the menu's color scheme is still a nice bit of customization. "Readable Sphere Break Coins", also by Drogean, is a quality of life update for the Sphere Break minigame. Sphere Break is a game that requires you to do math very quickly, and the heavily-stylized font used in this minigame can be very hard to read. This mod changes the font to make the numbers significantly more legible. "Replace FFX-2 Music with FFX Music" by Gohito is another mod that does exactly what the name says. X-2's soundtrack is rather divisive, and if you're one of the people who just can't stand it, then this mod may be for you. Though, do note that this mod does make a few questionable choices in regards to what song goes where, and the music may not always suit the situations it plays in (for example, Yuna's peaceful and serene X-1 theme playing during the first fight with Logos and Ormi). The last mod I want to talk about is "The Sight of Spira" by Tommymav. This mod retextures almost every returning location from X-1 in X-2 to look different. Changes include things like the Mi'hen Highroad being paved now that more people are travelling down it, Seymour's old mansion being redecorated to suit its new owner, Zanarkand being vandalized with grafitti and litter by disrespectful tourists, and more. X-2 heavily reuses assets from X-1, and many areas looking exactly the same as they did in X-1 doesn't always make sense. This mod helps with that by giving the game's various locales a bit of a fresher look that reflects how Spira has changed since X-1.

A new mod just dropped a few days ago that must be talked about: "Restore PS2 Tidus but slightly upscaled (still a potato)" by vyacharin. This mod takes the PS2 Tidus model mod that you showed off in this video and upscales the textures and fixes a few broken parts of the model to make it look significantly better. As the "still a potato" part of the mod's title suggests, there's still some noticable issues and it's far from perfect, but if you really can't stand Tidus's remastered face, this is undoubtedly the best option yet. Additionally, the author of this mod has said that they're working on fixing up the model to solve the remaining issues, meaing we may well have a perfect PS2 Tidus face mod in the near future.

The biggest problem in the FFX HD ports, sans the total art-style change at times, would have to be the totally butchered character facial animations. It's outright shocking how a 2001 PS2 game can have more detailed and realistic facial movements than some recent Bethesda games. But many folks probably won't even get to see them, because the "HD" versions make everyone stiff as rock.

8:14 People haven't done any texture upscales other than me, the old better textures mod and many others doing only playable characters and aeons. The better textures mod is 9 years old and incomplete, an old 2 core CPU can do that same upscale within 1 or 2 hours at most (without GPU). Catachrism only moved from the obsolete UNX to External File Loader because I converted their files for them. Don't get your hopes up, FFX modding is dead. No one is making a texture mod other than a party character or summon, leave alone upscaling everything with modern AI. If not, tell me why, still today, we don't have a mod allowing us to do something as simple as selecting which music we want from the original soundtrack and which we want from the remaster soundtrack. This is a feature everyone wants (for example many people hate the remastered version of Challenge), but no one has ever done it. Or any other audio mods for that matter. Not a single mod. Or making the game 60 FPS. Or, with a couple notable exceptions, changing gameplay to expand on FFX battle system (one of the exceptions myself). As much as I love FFX, we have to accept people no longer play it and move on.

It had so much attention to every little detail, making its story and gameplay much deeper than people think after one or a few gameplays. And it was executed brilliantly, almost 100% flawless. Not to say that the remaster did any bad, it just hasn't aged as well as any other FF remaster. Still so many years after playing and in my case messing with the game itself, one keeps finding out things. It looks like you can never know absolutely everything, there's always something new waiting for you to find it out lol

@@TheNightSkyPrince X-2 was more of the same, except that it was an expansion of the original game, rather than a full game that stands on its two legs. The only reason I never cared to 100% it (or to play it much) is because they changed the battle system, no longer using the rank mechanic and giving you infinite time to think, which is a big no for me. I understand why they did it, it would have made less sense and been much more difficult to keep it like FFX, but only with 3 playable characters and give it somehow a "refreshing" or "new" feel to it. But putting gameplay aside, it is good as an expansion on the first game, not as a standalone game (my opinion). There's more to it than people first guess. And Yuna changing, well people change over time and with different time events in their lives. I think when you come to understand the story and Yuna herself, you notice the evolution in her is quite natural, and still incomplete by the beginning of X-2 (but through the game, she finds a new, well-defined sense of self). However, most people just stick to "They changed Yuna all of a sudden and for no good reason", while not realizing she's "pretending" to be different but not quite that different by the beginning of X-2, and it continues to evolve through the game. In best ending, Tidus tells Yuna "You've changed" to which she answers "You have missed a few things", this is Tidus expected reaction sure, but it's also a way of telling us the developers knew what the problem was going to be and knew what the answer to it was. When you have the whole picture, you can understand how Yuna changed like that and how it would be natural.

@@TheNightSkyPrince I feel like the first comment is not complete without saying this, but maybe I'm being Mr. Obvious. The philopshy of current video game industry is "don't risk anything, make as much money as quickly as possible, and if it doesn't work immediately just completely give up on the game and start making another one". This is why single player games are dying and multi player with skins and lootboxes are the way to go in this philosophy. However, it also means players get many more, low quality games instead of less but high quality games. It also means a concept such as FFX is not something that anyone looks for anymore. Specially on the developer side of things. Anything that some players might not like in terms of gameplay or that may be controversial in terms of story (if any exists) is immediately discarded, as it would not sell "best". Overly generic, simple and repetitive games, on the other hand, do sell best, since they catch the broadest range of players. Players simple surrendering to it as some kind of inevitable fate, instead of refusing to buy and pay for the games, are just as much part of the problem and to blame. The current generation of consoles speaks very well for it. Nintendo with both Switch consoles included there. It's easy to complain, but hypocrite if you also spend money anyway, thus feeding the problem instead of forcing things to take a different direction.

When they first pull up to Lucca - the FMV - is that chargeable? That does not look like Tidus & Yuna i see anywhere else. That portion looks like two totally different characters.

I thought I was the only one that preferred the old ps2 face models as all my friends preferred the new faces and even they are bigger ffx fans than I am.

Vyacharin made a better version of Ps2's faces for the characters. He basically put the ps2's model faces on the HD remaster's bodies and also updated the facial textures. He did this for all characters that have an HD face - expept Khimari. He also moded the low polly face to show the high polly ones. The only downside is that I found that my game crashes after sometime playing it.

Honestly if you want to play the characters with the original faces look AND animations, just emulate, pretty sure you can play the international version in english. The newest mod are a nice thing but not only is just for Tidus and Yuna and still dont look quite right (yet at least)

Yes PS2 version emulated is a great option. Of course you can upscale it to higher resolutions. You can also use save states! Lost a battle and have to rematch cutscene again? No worries just load the save state!

I actually just started FFX on the PS5. Don't have it on steam sadly, if I did get it my laptop wouldn't be able to beef it up too much.

I feel like if I'm going to go back to Final Fantasy 10 to play it with mods, a few small changes to the cosmetics aren't gonna cut it. Tell us about mods that offer new spells, new skills, and new weapons along with some tougher baddies to bash with them.
