Very cool! I also have a 99 in .300 Savage, but my fore stock doesn't have that lip on the end. I believe mine is a 1951. My grandfather had the same one when I was a kid, so when I saw it at a show I had to get it. He's gone now, but my grandmother still hunts with her Remington .30-06 and she's 92!

I have a picture of my Grandfather with his Sister holding a 300 savage as well. It is a smooth lever action for sure. Damn I forgot I added that photo to this video.. Hers was probably like yours

Great old cartridge! I see the price sticker on the ammunition box and I don’t know if should laugh or cry. Looks what’s happened to ammunition cost in just 9 years since you posted this video. The Savage 99 rifle is a classic. I have one chambered in .308 Winchester. Ammunition availability is better, although I do reload. Those pictures of your family and rifles is priceless! Thank you for sharing!

Appreciate the comment. Fortunately, I don't shoot it a lot anymore, so my bank account is spared.

I am very fortunate to have both a Winchester pre 64 Model 94 in 30 30 and also a pre 64 Savage Model 99 in 300 Savage. My Savage was made in 1953 and was given to me in 1965 by my Grandmother. It belonged to my Grandfather. This is the only high power rifle that I have ever hunted with. The 30 30 belonged to my Mother. I have shot it several times but never hunted with it.

I would have loved to have the pre 64 Winchester for Deer Hunting. Lever action is perfect for brush drive hunting in Pennsylvania. The 1970 model 94 I had was just too sloppy. The Savage was perfect for me.

New Guns are never bad, however I have a 1924 Double Barrel 12 guage that belonged to my grandfather, passed to my father, and now in my possession. I even hunted with my Grandfather's 30/40 Kraig.. which was handed down to my Uncle. So I love classics as well.

@@pauljohnston2148 She needs to get out again.... I'm sad just thinking she's out to pasture. Sell her to me and she'll come alive again on my farm here.

Took a cow elk on a quartering shot, through the liver, both lungs, with the round. Made it about 10 yards and collapsed, died. Round penetrated about 2 feet before coming to stop at shoulder. Rapid kill.
