The idea of using a hacksaw blade to texture a clay trunk is amazing. I've been building tree trunks using grout and glue for years, and never once got a texture half as good as that. Well done, sir.

What perfect timing! My husband said this morning that he wanted a few trees for his warhammer table, then tonight I get a notification for this video. I have watched a number of tree making tutorials before, and made several, but I had never seen your foliage method before. Its very good and I really like how it turned out! We will have to try it.

Whenever I need to wash something with as many tiny surfaces as these trees, I use a commercial spray bottle to mix and apply the wash. The recipe/procedure is below: You will need: - 1 Commercial spray bottle. Get one with clear sides. - 2 parts water. If you have bubble/clumping issues with your washes, try distilled water. If you do not have easy access to distilled water, head to an auto shop, and ask for deionized water for batteries. - 1 part Pledge Floor Shine. Basically, acrylic gloss medium. If Pledge Floor Shine is not available in your area, you can use almost any acrylic floor wax. They are all basically gloss medium. - Acrylic ink according to taste. Mix the water and the PFS, and stir gently. Avoid creating bubbles. Add ink slowly. You can see how dark a residue your wash will leave by tilting the container to the side a bit, then back to horizontal. Look at the liquid that is flowing down the side of the container. That is the color your wash will leave behind on a surface. Go light with the ink rather than heavy. Another coat will only require waiting 10 minutes or so. Run this color-check before you add the flow improver, as the flow-improver will make it impossible to run this test. - 3-4 drops of Finish Jet Dry. If Finish Jet Dry is not available, look for some liquid designed to prevent spots in dishwashers. This is a flow-improver, that breaks the surface tension of water. it will prevent the wash from beading, and even out the coat. Stir gently, or slowly rotate the bottle to mix. You want to avoid bubbles. Spray on the wash, wait 10 minutes or so, and apply your next coat. Seal the piece with a matte varnish to kill the shine.

is it necessary to add the sand if it's going to be covered up with clay
@factoriamarciana37574 жыл бұрын
He uses it to improve the grip of the clay to the wire
@mike430684 жыл бұрын
I was wondering that myself.
@heathertaylor-willockx36324 жыл бұрын
It is really hard to get the clay to stick to the wires generally. I can see how adding the sand (and even just the glue) will make that easier.

This does have the appearance of a Cedar rather than an Oak but who am I?
@jimmccorison4 жыл бұрын
It pretty well matches the oak trees, and especially the Gary Oaks, that we have here in the Pacific Northwest. Cedar trees, at least here, are mostly vertical with much smaller branches in relationship to the trunk size.
@ceciliacampos31944 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the tutorial. I'm not sure if I like the tree, while the shape is good the finished tree with the static grass on the branches make it look like a swamp tree, it really does not tells me that is an oak tree. I'm disappointed because you always have great results.
@williambryant59464 жыл бұрын
In different parts of the world trees look different as there are different species of in this case oak. So this might be a perfect example of an oak tree in his part of the world. You got to think about that. 👍
@ceciliacampos31944 жыл бұрын
@@williambryant5946 Well...maybe. I think the issue with this tree is the concentration of leaves on the trunk unions and not at the end of the limbs.
@heathertaylor-willockx36324 жыл бұрын
@@ceciliacampos3194 You could probably concentrate the leaves where you prefer them fairly easily by being careful with the glue. The spray adhesive might just make that more difficult. I haven't tried this foliage method before, but the gradual build up of different thicknesses looks a lot better than the models I have done. I see a lot of potential.

0.0mm diameter steel wire, eh? I think I have plenty of that lying around 😂. If it’s three hundredths of an inch (0.030”) then that’s 0.8mm, not 0.0mm 👍

I beg your pardon, but this "product" does not look like an Oak at all.
@ArcadiaJunctionHobbies4 жыл бұрын
It looks exactly like a classic old European Oak tree. Traditionally over the countries they are pruned - in such a manner - so as much thicker trunks and branches expand to create their bulky look. I live in Ireland and this looks identical to the 300 year old ones I am looking out my window at right now. They may be different where you live and MoS made this point in the video at the start.
