In this video I share with you some great model railroad structure kit hacks. I am building the N scale Miner's Supply kit from Wild West Models. This is a nice wood craftsman kit, but I am using some painting, staining, and other techniques to make it look like a fantastic run down old structure. I will also show you many techniques that I use to get great results from kits like this.

Great job Ron. I will try the canopy glue. Your staining washes worked well ( and how to make them video was very good too). I'm looking forward to see your construction of the diorama model.

RON, it’s great to see you back, hope your summer is/was good, stage & healthy. What a great looking building, sooo cool! I’ve always wanted to try the laser cut wood kits but kind of fearful of them but as long as I go with your recommendation, I think you’ve made a believer out of me. Thanks much and thanks for sharing CO with us 😊

@@RonsTrainsNThings how long have you been model railroading. I know you have years into the craft that's easy to see from videos and now your current level. I know as a beginner I kinda did things backwards, got my DCC train before I had a table (played with it on the dinning room table before I started getting looks) started learning weather with an air brush so I weathered my rolling stock, I'm a bit intimidated by the modles as I got the kit with 12 or more...I'm like a kid in a candy store but like I said just built my table and got it moved into the room...I feel like a hot mess

What a perfect time for this video Ron. I'm starting a build and wanted to do a chipping effect too. I don't think using a sponge will work on N Scale. As always Ron you did a beautiful job. Keep having fun, Chris

Nicely done, the one thing Modelers of all sorts learn is patience since many a fingerprint has been left after handling a part to soon. However a fingerprint can be used to give a bit of depth/decay on paint or even decals like a poster or ad on a wall can impart a nice weathered effect as it it were peeling/blistering. Indeed if a fingerprint is left on paint on which a decal will be applied its ridges/swirls will transfer thru at times and even wrinkling a wet decal as if it's coming off a outside billboard/wall can have a nice look of age. Even having other decals/signs behind another that's smaller is a fun look as well and don't forget Telephone/Power Poles having a smattering of handbills on them about head high since there often covered in them. A touch of humor can also go with signage since everything from Liver Pills/Political Elections were put up and taking them down for what's new depending on the era a layout is in can be a hoot as well as a history lesson for keen eyed. I nice figure wearing a Sandwich board as they were once called would be just as fun as well since one side could be for Life Insurance/Funeral Home and on the other for Cigarettes. With printing nearly anything on decal paper now your imagination/software are about the only limit and perhaps a Ron's Trains n Things Hobby Store might appear in the window of a future Shop some day that we will have to hunt for on his layout might be a contest...

I see you have trouble with your tweezers sticky to your parts. I with the parts didn't stick. I am thinking maybe dipping the tweezer in or spray them with Pam cooking spray to see if that helps. I try very hard not to get any glue on the tips but no matter they still stick on the parts.
