They are a great product and a nice guy. SSS will ship your order free if you orde4r a decoder from them too, so worth remembering. He'll load a sound file of your choice onto an ESU decoder before shipping as well. Loksound 5's just got a firmware upgrade which adds Dynamic Sound Control which behaves similarly to Tsunami2's DDE. In short, your loco can sound like it's struggling (or adding sand etc) up grades, and coast down grades! It's awesome. I've been playing with it today and am just enjoying listening to the loco coasting down, then notching up again all on it's own. Man your loco's sound a lot better, and I liked your lawn chair painting session. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Tom! Good info on SSS and the ESU decoder feature. I just watched the demo video that Sgt Minuteman posted. Looks pretty cool. I just don't have any real grades to speak of. I use drive hold for the transition from the main (on cork roadbed) to the industry spurs (on the plywood.) So I get my coasting in. I think IRL they sometimes feather the throttle even on the level track, so I do that too. I get a kick out of it. Take care - Bill.

Do you know if the firmware upgrade is on ESU's website?

@@DaveSCHS You need Lokprogrammer hardware and software. That will update the firmware on each decoder when you read and write to it.

@@MyFingerLakesRailwayLayout mine is a small 4x8 kit layout with 4% grades and 18 in radius, so it's all up and down with limited flat. Wish I had more space!
