_The Spice must flow_ As an avid Dune fan I'm absolutely cheering right now! Wonderful painting job! A little lore on this harvester; the machine is supposed to have a bit more movement in the treads due to it navigating over sand dunes. I suppose if you did a full diorama it would help on a uneven basis but for a desk model it's fine

Интересно, где-то реально достать модель харвестра, версии дюны 2000 он ещё напоминал по дизайну жука-скарабея? I wonder if it's possible to get a harvester model somewhere, the Dune 2000 version still resembled a scarab beetle in design?

Paint looks great, the kit is just so small I wish they'd have included the lifters for them, along with to-scale ornithopters, so it'd be a bit more possible to make a diorama of some sort.

Thanks! Yeah it's a shame licenced kits seem to be trending smaller these days, I guess the margins must be too small when they invest in large complex builds that only find a niche audience. We demand more quality molds now, which must cost a lot to R&D, gone are the days when they could hand sculpt something and bang out thousands of kits full of flash and warping issues. 😆 Of course this is all guessing.

I think the different factions of Dune have different harvester designs. That one in the video was the type used by the Atreides. The Harkonnens used one that was more bug-like in appearance. Trying to remember what the Smugglers' harvester looked like.

Hello, quick beginner question if you don't mind - do you use a booth when airbrushing? I'm just starting out and was gifted an airbrush, but I don't want to mess with a booth unless necessary. Opinions seem to differ, so I figure if you do or don't that would be good enough for me. Thanks! I really appreciate your videos; something I can aspire to.
@modelchili7 ай бұрын
I haven't ever used a booth, I only spray with acrylics which are not toxic so it's not usually a problem. I am considering getting a booth set up though, as spraying in smallish rooms leaves a lot of spray dust over time all over my models.

As I am never satisfied with anything, i cant help but wish Meng had also released a model of the weirdly organic looking Harkonnen spice harvester to be a companion piece to this one. And something to give a sense of scale. I don't know what they could have done however. An ornithopter in the same scale would be microscopic. A worm would be gigantic. That does however suggest a diorama potential of a worm surfacing under the harvester. Just a pit under the harvester with the suggestion of the worm's mouth and teeth in a surrounding ring. Hmmm.

Can you tell me how much you've diluted the brown wash (oiled earth), and using what? I got a brand new one and for the life of me cannot get a even, transparent coat. It;s just too thick.
@modelchili7 ай бұрын
I've never needed to thin the washes, they've always been super thin for me. I have had the Oiled Earth for years now, but don't ever remember it being as thick as you describe. The formula might have changed since I bought mine, not sure sorry.
@Haakon_The_Viking7 ай бұрын
@@modelchiliNo problem. It must be the new changed formula, since I also got 71.122 (now being named US Desert Armor) and it comes down completely different, sandy yellow instead of a grey-brown tan like on your model. Oh well, gotta improvise :D Thanks!

The idea was okay but basically if a person looked at it you would never guess it was supposed to be from a desert environment. It naturally resembles a WW2 vehicle. Desert is completely different shading and weathering. Put a Panzer turret on that harvester and it would look at home.

Nice build! Everything you did is great, my only complaint is in Denis' actual design. The novel actually describes how the harvesters work by "centrifugally removing the Spice from the sand." So instead of a generic box shape (angles and straight lines), the top should have a distinct circular shape. If you study centrifugal chillers (industrial HVAC), those designs should have inspired the Harvester. But that's on the production team, not you. lol Your build is great! :)
@thebritishengineer80277 ай бұрын
Excellent work, you made a lovely job of the model...... that is probably one of the worst pieces of "mecha concept design ever." Although expected from this DUNE "B" movie, balloons to take the off the harvesters... really?? Although the harvesters suk less than the Dyson designed guild shuttle and that totally believable landing leg sequence...
