If they made a ToneX floor board the size of a QC, with the same amount of footswitches + improved the software editor, it would outsell every other product by miles. Especially if they keep things cheaper, like they’ve been known to do.

I'm using a Helix, and I've been waiting for either Line 6 to come up with a good sequel coz this thing is ageing - or ToneX to make a bigger pedal, an all in one like a Helix/Pod Go. I was so annoyed when ToneX made that extra little thing, it's like - give us a big all in one pedal ffs.

@@SenseiKreese totally makes sense to me why they didn’t go big. Race to the bottom and cheapest point of entry to get players who are interested in trying capture tech to get into their ecosystem before going big. I’ve always been interested in capture tech but was unwilling to make a $1200+ “try it” investment. I would’ve done the big Tonex but it was too big to fit on my board. I now have dual TX1s because the price of entry is so low and I can easily fit two on my board. But I will now pay the flagship price if they get the product right because I am now bought into their ecosystem.

You know, the tone master amps have done very well, as well as the spark products. Combo devices still have a market. I’d LOVE a premium fractal combo. A 1x12 with full capabilities, a streamlined physical control panel, and Bluetooth connectivity with mobile app. I made a 1x12 combo with my powered kemper rack using the Kone, and the only reason I don’t love it is the fact that my fm3 sounds infinitely better to my ears. I’m gonna sell my Kemper stuff, and build a powered cab for my fm3. Any premium device with Integrated speaker and proper sends ect would be pretty kickass to me. Btw, the Kone in an oversized 1x12 (to fit the rack) sounds really great, I plan to use the Kone in my cab for the fractal. 😂

I really do hope Line 6 comes out with the Helix II this year...they are at NAMM this year so it'd be strange to not unveil SOMETHING significant. I love the crap out of my Helix floor, but the issue you run into is with resources. If you do a dual-amp setup, you don't have any processing power left for effects in the front-end. For what I do, I need the comfort of knowing I can have an octave pedal, a whammy and two modulations up front in the chain. Another issue the Helix has is with Snapshots (particularly for us high-gain guys): If I want to create a full setup, I have to use two amp blocks for the whole preset, which consumes pretty much all the processing: one for your cleans and another for your dirty stuff. Guys like me who like using snapshots, want to be able to use different channels of an amp and process them independently in each scene so that we aren't burning up resources having blocks we're not even using in that snapshot. Each snapshot needs to allow us a totally clean slate for us to build on, as it is with the Axe Fx and their "channel" feature. NAM is awesome, and what I like about captures is that you can get the amps you want right away and people have been doing a great job of throwing us the ones we really want. The wild, the expensive, the rare. Still not much for Hughes and Kettner stuff though, at least not JUST the amp, which leads me to the major DOWNSIDE of captures: please don’t capture the whole rig without ALSO capturing just the amp by itself…no drives, NOTHING. Full rig captures usually suck ass, as do ones with drives on them!

While I'm hyped to see what new devices will be released, to be completely honest, nowadays I base my purchasing decisions on which units creators like yourself and other third party providers support. I think the digital space is really one that relies a lot on creators and the community (whether for profit or otherwise) because a lot of us don't have access to a gazillion amps and out-of-production analog devices.

right?! So underrated and I think it's purely because it doesn't look cool or cost much. I have the one without the expression pedal, and for about £85 new it is an absolute no-brainer for a) beginners, to experiment with effects and practise with the looper, b) damn near any gigging guitarist as purely an emergency backup rig, no matter how complex their set is, because the Zoom is a dirt cheap tiny lightweight battery powered thing that will get them close enough in a pinch, and c) solo artists like me whose stage rig is about simplicity (ie usually just a good amp with good reverb and a tuner + maybe a looper) because we really do not NEED anything more than what the Zoom offers. Use the thousands you save on other gear to pay for gig tickets to get inspiration and memories.

I’m hoping tonex will release something about the size of the nano cortex that is capable of running 2 captures in stereo, and that also allows the two foot switches to be used to bypass effects. For people with pedalboards, that is a perfect product in my opinion. As a fractal fan, I don’t expect much with the recent release of the vp4. Would be cool to see them do a small form factor amp modeler. They don’t really seem to be interested however. If they would implement capture tech, they would be best in class pretty easily to me. I also don’t expect that to happen.
@vitaliistep

@@thecalv10 as far as I know Cliff thinks that capturing is an inferior approach in comparison to modelling, with a lot of downsides (high aliasing is one of them), so I guess it will never happen. Their Tone Match feature on Axe Fx gets you pretty close already tonally to any specific amp.
@thecalv10
@thecalv10 13 күн бұрын
@ yeah, that is what I have read as well. I actually get his point of view to an extent. It really muddies the waters because anyone can throw a mic in from of an amp and capture it, so you get a lot of subpar sounds. My biggest thing though is I like capture tech to purchase amps that are not currently modeled, from high quality sources like tonejunkie and others. I also really like modeling for its flexibility and I think the axe-fx models are very accurate. I have settled on a FM3 with a tonex in the loop for now, which gives me the best of both worlds, but definitely harder to manage than if there was something native to the fractal stuff.
@vitaliistep
@vitaliistep 13 күн бұрын
@@thecalv10 I think the capturing will really deliver, when they will start to do multiple captures and then combine them into one profile, so it would be like a symbiosis of modelling and capturing. At the moment all of the devices that do capturing (QC, Kemper, Tonex, NAM) can fool you in sounding very close to original amps as long as you are close dynamically to a specific volume. When you roll off guitar volume or start to play with wide dynamics or boost the level a bit, they all sound ok, but nothing like the amps they captured. The modelling devices like Fractal or Helix even so may be lacking some small nuances in distortion right now are much more successful in covering the wide dynamic range (and reaction to different frequency ranges (different pedals and guitars) within it) convincingly and have a much more authentic feel/sound overall this way.
@vitaliistep
@vitaliistep 13 күн бұрын
But again, producing combined profiles would be very time consuming, so I doubt it will ever happen with the current approach and I guess we need some brand new capturing technology for that :) Hence the component modelling has a brighter future currently, as its realism is mostly restricted by DSP performance right now I think

@@vitaliistepthat's why ultimately, Fractal will be relegated to the dust bin of product. The accuracy of NAM is unsurpassed. In addition, NAM will never be obsolete as it's open sourced. My predictions : 1-No new product : Kemper/Fractal/Line6 Not adopting neural network capture tech because they don’t know how to and NAM is demanding too much powerful cpu (costly, but also unavailable in ARM form for small batches, only for phone markets) 2- new innovative plugins using capture from new brands in this market 3- No new Fender product 4- A new NAM pedal from the dude of GigFast app 5- new Chinese products, maybe some light NAM loader (not standard mode unfortunately) Keep in mind kemper is only surviving on its reputation, fractal doesn’t have enough money to invest in new era (basically FAS is running because of Cliff writing all the important code by hand, to recreate amps, took years to build their digital amp collection!) and Yamaha won’t kill helix as it is, but keep upgrading (a new flagship PODuct is also very expensive) BUT we may see some sexy new stuff from UAFX, maybe a 2k flagship product. NDSP won’t doing anything new, it took years to make the nanocortex, maybe some new upgrade with drive/comp block in front but no new hardware. Maybe they could release a capture plugin, and I hope they will improve their capture neural network technology because ToneX is a lot better right now for the only reason ToneX uses Mac/Pc graphic Cards to train much larger models. But those model « inference » (reading) doesn’t require that much DSP so the QC and NC could run those with ease (ToneX one can!)

Dimehead can do it for less than 600€ because they have very low cost running operation. But a bigger company would have to price it at least 900-1200€ to have the power. In comparison Quad Cortex should be 4x the processing power to support NAM (we tried with the same hardware…) Keep in mind a 1000€ customer product should cost less than 150€ to build to be profitable for an US/Eu company (taxes, retail, distribution, marketing, support…)

Once NAM is more viable for products, I think and hope we will see packs from amp manufacturers. Maybe legacy models that aren't available anymore with a ton of different profiles, packed with IRs. I could see a market for a Two Notes package with let's say a Marshall Plexi NAM profiles and DynIRs of the corresponding vintage speakers. I could see a market for that.

If you have their ear - Can you please tell the IK guys to build a ToneX unit like a Pod Go with more switches and exp pedal. I want an all in one I can lay down, and there's benefits to that, like - exp pedal is light based, doesn't need cleaning all the damn time - and look at what you can do with snapshots on something like a Helix, no tap dancing, just change everything you want with one foot click. I'm not into putting together frankenboards any more, too much headfk and expense. Even with a light based morley wah pedal - I bought one, I could hear a little click noise in recordings when it engaged, pissed me off. All in one units - perfectly clean. I'm really surprised they haven't done it. They're an FX company, they could load it up with lots of FX, 1176 compression etc... They could really hit the competition with a bigger unit. Three switches isn't enough. I'd want one of those just for a tap tempo for my delays and that leaves two switches ugh. The little ToneX just isn't enough for me live, currently using a Helix. I don't wanna fk about with midi and external pedals, just give me the damn all in one IK.

Interesting take. No way I’d ever want to get a single floorboard. Most players not over the frankenboards and I will never play one. I sincerely hope that IK does not go this route. Most full all in one floor units not selling well on the whole.

I feel like BOSS doesn't get enough credit for trying to create new amps with modeling technology, with tone architecture that doesn't exist IRL. It just feels like everything is so focused on capturing the past (sorry for the pun). I get it, that's where the money is. But do you think any of the big boys like QC, AXE, Kemper, L6 etc will try to give us something actually new, like something that isn't just a take on tried and true gear? Feels like it's a race to the bottom with the capture market already, that can't be good for the QCs of the world in the long run.

NAM is really cool. I think it would be great platform to create unique software Amps and Effects by creative users. I've had an HX Stomp for four years, and there are still many sounds and features I haven't fully taken advantage of. I wish it had a way I could create unique Amps and Effects by allowing me to combine the Parameters I want in Experimental Blocks using HX Edit.

I agree with you on there being no Helix 2 yet......sadly for me as I'd much rather than have a new modeller (maybe with some new tech for creating new concepts) than another capture product. The issue with capture tech and its communities for me is finding usable things amongst the dross. Tonex is powerful but sadly like all IK things the software is clunky.....if they do come out with a multi-FX it will surely be cheaper, as you say, that's their thing.

@@ToneJunkieTV the greatest thing they could do with it is make it stereo to where you can run two models in stereo without having to buy another unit (looking at you IK Multimedia 😂) and being able to flip phase without a pinstripe diso and being able to blend the models like what people are doing with the GFI Duophony. I’m currently building a Dream/Ruby stereo rig implementing the GFI Duophony to get rid of the problem that gain in front of one reacts differently than the other (ie the ruby breaks up much sooner and levels are off). It’s a HUGE untapped rabbit hole.

Please no huge floorboards on Tonex!! HX Stomp showed the guitar industry that most players are over full size footboards and want something smaller that incorporates into pedalboards. QC about the biggest size that should be made. If Tonex can give us a flagship unit the same size as HX Stomp / Boss GT1000core with true stereo I/Os with multiple amp captures running simultaneously and some drive captures with zero latency and ability to flip phase along with some more complex signal path allowing FX loops for analog drives/wet effects with their basic effects they already have ability to be triggered via midi and I’ll pay whatever they want.
