There are few times were cinema is true ART. This is an example! It vibrates to the core, and whether it feels you’re watching either cinema or the most beautiful music video made, Xavier Dolan’s unique style defines the boundaries of true arthouse cinema. Moving images with explosive music on-screen make it a definite ear/eyegasm!!!

Great name dropping. He has nothing to do with Lynch, and he says he doesn't like Godard that much.
@Neuroneos10 жыл бұрын
IMangame This is a pure Lynch-inspired moment. Vision de l'esprit, a surrealist scene with the colourfol composition of Almodovar. Not liking an artist doesn't mean that you can't have a similar style. There are lots of jump cuts and eerie Godard moments in Laurence Anyways and Les Amours Imaginaires, whether he's a fan of Godard or not doesn't matter.
@BooringBoo9 жыл бұрын
I agree with Godard and Almodovar, but you're wrong about Lynch. Moreover, that scene with the clothes falling over, it reminds me of that last scene of Antonioni's Zabriskie Point. Lynch tries not to make sense, Dolan does make sense (sometimes a lot for his own sake)...
@Neuroneos9 жыл бұрын
João Pedro Tomás Dolan is definitely inspired, to a certain extent, by Lynch. Tom à la Ferme has some very strong Lynch moments.

This would be a great scene if it were under any other context or any different film. The scene is so beautifully shot and Dolan is a master at using music in his films. However, we cannot forget that all of this was done to glamourize what is a toxic as hell relationship and so all of that honestly works against the film and instead just kind of pisses me off. Keep in mind we find out in literally the scene before this that Laurence had been stalking Fred for a year. That's really fucking creepy is what it is, and so it feels like the film's saying that stalking someone is how you get someone to love you. What the hell. Fred isn't any better either. She never once showed any respect for Laurence's struggles with her gender identity even once. She's an asshole, and it gets to the point where in one scene at a resteraunt she basically just screams at a lady about how much of a burden Laurence is to her because she's trans and it's portrayed as though she's in the right for saying this and that she's somehow sticking up for Laurence by saying that kind of crap... no fuck you. Then of course when they leave the restaurant Laurence asks Fred if she's okay and she responds by hitting her. So yay for this abusive and terrible relationship this is clearly a good fucking thing. Also Jesus Christ this film is so bloody transphobic that the fucking tagline misgenders Laurence twice. She's not even properly gender once in the entire film. It's super clear that Dolan has never once met a trans person, cares at all about them, or has done any research at all. www.flavorwire.com/400845/flavorwire-interview-director-xavier-dolan-on-laurence-anyways-and-the-ghetto-of-queer-cinema Here's an extremely fucked up interview Dolan gave where not only does he refer to Laurence as "it" multiple times throughout the film, not only does he basically say that he got the concept for the film because he sees trans people as burdens, but he also fucking bragged about his lack of research for the film. Fuck you Dolan, and fuck this movie, why the hell is this movie so acclaimed? It sucks really because Mommy is like my favourite film of all time and I Killed My Mother is my top 10. Everything else Dolan has made has been fucking amazing, but here he really dropped the ball and he dropped it fucking hard. The only good part of this movie is Antoine Olivier Pilon.
