Like the style - very modern and neat. Was wondering - instead of buscuit joinery or dowel at the curve joint - why didn't you inter-digitate the bench and curves. Extend the curves in a flat line by say 10cm and reduce every 2nd bench slat by 10cm - much stronger join. I am assuming this is to support body weight. Or is it a display bench? Just a thought not a criticism!

exactly, i would hate to see the piece fail at the biscuit joint. even a shallow tongue and groove would strengthen it, a long sliding dovetail would be difficult but very strong and could make an interesting visual additional

I built Shaun's version last year, and it was a fun build. I did like the idea of the walnut inlay. However, I was concerned about 3 biscuits holding those seams together. I would worry about it not being able to handle the applied weight.

Thanks for checking it out, Jeffrey. I haven’t bought a domino joiner yet. It’s on my wish list though. That said, with the amount of surface area and the three biscuits, I think it’s plenty strong. We’ve been using it in our house for the past several months and so far so good. Thanks again for stopping by. j-

I see a lot of comments from this week. Did this video suddenly get a truck load of views? Love the bench btw, it's convinced me to get a router CNC instead of a laser one.
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks 4 жыл бұрын
It’s actually on its way down, the views peaked about two weeks ago at a little over 90,000 a day. I couldn’t believe it on a year old video. I actually just got a laser attachment for the X-Carve. You can carve with the router, and then switch right over and run the laser. I’ll be doing an installation video in the next couple of weeks about the laser. I agree though, if I had to choose I would go with the CNC router. Thanks a lot for checking it out, I really appreciate it.
