Hmm, I feel like Armed Dragon LV 10 White and White Veil should have been more of a Side Deck thing if anything, since in the anime, White Veil was a card that he used while he was brainwashed by the Society of Light, so I don't think he'd really want to use it in his standard deck.

I will say, I once saw another attempt at a modern Chazz deck that had some modern staple cards (that I largely ignored because they didn't fit), but another Link monster that was interesting in it was Apollousa, which I actually think also kind of fits because before the new Light and Darkness support, it kind of has an effect reminescent of the Dragons

I did an old one of Joey a couple years back, but it was more of a GX era profile than a modern deck that takes advantage of all the new mechanics. Plus, Joey's archetypes have gotten A LOT of love over the past few years.

Think the biggest pushback you'll get on this one is just the White Armed Dragon and White Viel and the number of copies of the Ojama spells and maybe the newer versions of XYZ. I could see Chazz be like "I'll use the power as my own" but those cards have waaay too much troubled history for everyone emotionally. It'd be more of an alexis thing to use a few Ice cards because she has more attitude about that kind of thing. Side note: If you did a More LandD style deck, Would probably aim for the CHaos Synchros. Ojamas being lv2 help a lot in getting Angel out and using Dark Armed(both versions) and such.

Ojamas and Armed Dragon were obvious inclusions and VWXYZ was easy to guess, but I would NOT have seen the references to the Cthonians or straight up the manga lineup making it in here, especially on top of splashes of Dragonlords and other generic support. Despite that, the reveal that Light & Darkness Dragon was a girl was still the biggest surprise in here.

I think Chazz's deck is a fantastic representation of his character arc. Even if hes not exactly proud of it, the society of light is part of that arc, and I think Armed Dragon LV10 White (and thus the inclusion of White Veil) is a good symbol of Chazz acknowledging and accepting his own flaws and past mistakes.

The ABC cards are great, but because Chazz's VWXYZ monster can combine with his Armed Dragon, it made more sense to go with those for this profile, while the ABCs are in the Kaiba deck profile we did last week for how they can support Obelisk.

I know a lot of people love this character but I personally never understood why, he seems to be another character that's been memed to death and thus is now a beloved character, much like Kaiba and Joey though those two I can at least say are well written (if you're watching the Japanese version) and have very well done arcs. I cannot say the same for Chazz. What's frustrating about this is that if you look at how Chazz is handled in the manga, he actually IS a great character there and would probably be one of my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh rivals if that's how the anime treated him. He has an excellent boss monster, he's much better written, and has a real rivalry with Judai and even beats him at one point. He's everything a rival should be.

Anime Chazz has some great moments, especially early on, and I love the idea of a rival who starts off running big powerhouse monsters, but who learns to take a loss and then rebuild a whole new strategy around weaker cards. That’s some really nice synergy between the characters’ story and their deck. The problem is that Chazz (both in English and Japanese) is basically played entirely like a joke after season 1 (mostly cause he’s shackled to the Ojamas). Plus, GX kinda refuses to let anyone but Jaden/Judai win any plot relevant duel. And these two features combined (as well as there being a ton of rival characters in GX) leave Chazz redundant. GX has a bad habit of introducing really promising characters and then not having them do anything. Chazz is one of many characters who got squandered.

@h_works2965 Agreed and that first point you made is one of the most baffling things about Chazz. That first season seemed to be setting him up for an arc that could have been genuinely awesome to see, going from an arrogant bully who believes strength is everything to a humbled and experienced duelist who understands that any card can be useful when used properly. That's a really cool idea for a rival character and if the show stayed consistent with that Chazz would have had one of the most unique character arcs in the whole franchise but instead he was reduced to memes and jokes and I'll never understand why for so many people that's enough.

Cuz he was a cool character in growth at the start and got a good finale arc. Chazz in most scenes usually has jokes cuz of the ojamas but its not nearly as bad as what they do to Bastion. He gets part of an arc in S2 and everyone kinda overblows the "he's a joke" thing. Yeah he shouldve been a bit more like his Manga side, but Chazz still had a lot to like about him. I mean, hey, at least you can GRASP his arc and potential worries of his future unlike most of the others that come out of nowhere in Season 4.

@allaroundlazy2845 it's true that how Bastion was handled was definitely way worse and unlike Chazz his manga version isn't much better. That said just because Chazz's wasn't complete and utter dog shit doesn't mean that he's good as is. Characters being "funny" or "likeable" isn't enough for them to be good characters, it just makes them entertaining which is nice but it's not good storytelling and Duel Monsters already showed with Joey and Kaiba that you can have a character that's meant to entertain and still write them to be good characters.

For Chazz specifically, I feel like if you combine his arcs in the anime and the manga, you can basically synthesize the perfect character arc - so in my brain, I've always combined Light & Darkness Dragon with the Ojamas.
