Well, Warszawa is truly a vibrant city. There are skyscrapers, there are big corpo companies areas but I guess Poland has passed this stage. At the same time tenement houses in the center are filled with all kind of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, where all kind of trends appear quickly. On the other hand, there are nearby districts that are much quieter, slower. I like that literally all old buildings, loft, former factories, depots are renovated and converted into some kind of food courts, business centers etc. In the very center, there is for example (hmm this year or last renoavted) norblin factory - an old factory area converted to modern food town, bio bazar, shopping center, museum (there's Apple computers museum there - very nice one actually, in very pretty, stylish space :) ). It's huge - it has open / outside space, some kind of a patio, inside loft. In Poland, a lot of people say / said about Warszawa, Warszafka (people obsessed with career, bling bling, etc.) but I disagree with that. Sure, in 2 mln city, there are all kind of people, but I would say that Warsaw has it's own charm. As a Polish who, I'm actually quite proud of it. We don't need to be ashamed of having such capital ;) It's also has it's dark history, war history. So, it is kind of and example, prove, that literally any country can take a long ride to some better future, and capital pretty much shows this. There are still some old building from PRL era that pretty much don't fit ;) - they're simply ugly and nowhere near to some brutalism, nice architecture but yeah, Warsaw had a long ride.

Sorry, I beg to differ. @@stroll-and-roll Our city is literally a definition of Prussian imperialism, lmao. After living here for my entire life I accidently became a Prussian imperialist myself (that's a joke but Szczecin or I should say STETTIN has that weird vibe). Yeah, many things could be developed but the president of Szczecin has no plans for developing the cultural aspect of the city (and keeping XIX century mood as well) or any events promotion because it is absolutely AWFUL here. I also think that we should maybe try building Prussian-inspired or XIX-century inspired blocks and steampunkish architecture in general because it looks awsome and really fits the city's spirit instead of that modern style. But what can we expect? Kinda nothing. Szczecin was done dirty a little bit after war, if you look at the pre-war photos, you'll see the city was so beautiful. I also wondered if we should have tried doing more murals and eco-murals because they look great, they could make communistic blocks less awful. I freaking hate communistic blocks. They look so bad. I have a dream I will learn to paint street art some day but I don't really have time or space to learn (or strength). The fact that Warsaw was essentially reduced to rubble in 1944 gave the city a kind of blank slate to work with and you can really see that in the downtown esspecially, where there are very little if any pre-war buildings and so it's a really interesting mix of old communist-age blocks, modern skyscrapers, new, trendy malls, coffee shops etc. but as you start moving away from the modern downtown, you can see these blocks and communist architecture pretty much everywhere which some people dont really like, saying it just looks old and worn out and that they all look the same, but for me it gives a sense of nostalgia and familiarity since i grew up in the same blocks. And between Sweden, Ottomans and Austria
@recordofragnarokisapurehyp66602 жыл бұрын
@@alfaromeogiuliaquadrifogli8804 Ottomans were the least bad out of these 6 in my opinion. German (or Prussian) are imperialists to the point you become naturally an imperialist by living in a post-Prussian city, Russian was always a big brother who can't endure more than 10 years without either trying to control us, either making us bark on each other, either torturing us. Habsburgs married, married and married and then they married almost the whole western Europe, Swedish were the biggest thieves out of these 6 and Ottomans... Ottomans kinda did nothing for most of the times except Vienna if we ignore Cremean Tatars burning Polish villages (which was a pain in an ass for both sides because then Kozaks burnt Istambul). But yeah, that's a really unlucky spot.

Very nice film, I' m originally from Krakow, wich is not that modern because it has not that mauch sky scrapers it wasn' t destroyed during the ww2 so to not cover the old town there are just 2 sky scrapers in Krakow which are not that tall, and I think this is what makes the atmosphere of krakow. I recommend you to see this uniqe thown as it has a lot to offer.

I comment as a Polish guy who lives in Warsaw, and our subway can be pretty crowded in the rush hours (it's about 7-9 am, and 4-6 pm). Also its so clean and modern because it was just build very lately. Polish first metro line is much more dirtier and less pretty then the second line.

3:23 these building are not "grey and ugly"! This is an example of modernism housing architecture, they are not soviet at all. During war Warsaw was turned into a pile of debris. After war architects decided to build new center of Warsaw in architectural style of modernism (which was also pretty popular before the war). And this is it. These building are simple yet elegant.

You can call it with any word, but they still are grey boxes copied across all USSR or Soviet-controlled countries and there is nothing good about it
