This is so awesome to watch before a tournament, even just a small local one.

Much respect for doing these!

I appreciate it! They aren't too bad once you actually get going haha

@thecntrlfreak1347 It's nice, free info from someone who has the time to do it. I don't have much free time to practice/learn the matchups in and out, so this helps a lot. Thanks again, man!

Thanks bro, super helpful. This deck (and subsequently your channel) has singlehandedly gotten me to start playing modern.

That's awesome! I'm glad you decided to give it a shot. It's a really fun format most of the time haha

It definitely is sad, but sometimes you just have to weather the storm for a little bit.

Have you looked at any of the oculus builds recently? Looking to run Dimir with unearth + oculus this Saturday for my RCQ. Deck has been sweet.

I think for the Algo is better to split the video, anyway i love your videos Mike! I don't really play anymore mtg sadly but you singlehandedly keep my Love for the game alive❤

It's quite possible, but I don't want people to have to search around for individual 5-10 minute videos

not sure about cutting consign in the boros matchup... hits all removal for murktide (chain prison) and the ring ~ around 10 targets with a huge impact and another 8 (ajani/raptor) if you have to
@thecntrlfreak134728 күн бұрын
Perfectly reasonable take. I just don't want to get too carried away on hitting things that other counters can hit as well, and run the risk of getting outpaced by a rag/guid/ocelot in to double 1 drop draw.
@Frank-ci2ce21 күн бұрын
I think that consign its a very strong card in the matchup. Hit ring, of course, and counter all the trigger of the deck phlage included
@mikegiannakopoulos6819Ай бұрын
About the merfolk sideboard, lists playing silvergill adept just board them all out at the sight of a bowmaster so scolding comes in more because it is "a better card than adept" imo. They board out harbingers as well because they are not that effective against murktide though if they cut you off black you are in *murky* waters one could say (sorry). Nice vid!
@thecntrlfreak1347Ай бұрын
I appreciate the heads up. This is one of those times where it's good to rely on more than just personal experience. The merfolk matchups I've been against recently haven't boarded out silvergill or harbinger, but if the more common consensus is to take them out, then I'll plan for them to.

Thanks, great guide! Any comments to counter a Grist landed? I have thought in bitter reunion but i dont feel is enought efficient. I will agree any advice for yawgmoth pairing.
@thecntrlfreak1347Ай бұрын
Definitely a very tough matchup. Most of your game involves not letting grist resolve at all, once it's down you have a lot of issues with it unless you have a flying threat and a clear board already. Unfortunately any of the 2 mana planeswalker kill spells are about the best you can do in these colors.

Thanks for the Video.I am playing the Deck at two Rcq's this weekend. Im still missing Bowmasters whats the best replacement you think?
@Babyboots1Ай бұрын
I'm running this list except two thought scours instead of archarm this Saturday at my local RCQ too. I asked the same question, and Mike replied that bowmaster isn't great at anything, and it's more of a jack of all trades without any specific replacement. Good luck friend!
@thecntrlfreak1347Ай бұрын
I would replace with a some number of consider or harbingers in the main. Subtlety if you want that, but I'm not a big sub fan. But just work on finding your frogs/murks more reliably if you take out the bowmasters.
@nicolasmarnat2246Ай бұрын
Great stuff. The only thing I don't understand is keeping Archmage's Charm against Boros. Around 14', you say that you cut Counterspell as it is "slow stuff". Charm feels worse to me as it costs 3 so it's slower and rarely impact the board. Could you explain why you want to keep Charm post sideboard?
@thecntrlfreak1347Ай бұрын
I guess I should have elaborated for sure. Counterspell is a little slow as a counter, but archmages charm being able to take and not pay for a static prison, take an ocelot pride with counters, take a big guide, etc can be a lot more useful.
@pedrofeliperocha8514Ай бұрын
I feel like GDS and Dimir shadow aren’t far from frogtide when the matter is power level. Frogtide is better now only because of bowmasters imo.
@thecntrlfreak1347Ай бұрын
They definitely aren't far off. The more I play frogtide, the more I pick up on play patterns and card choices that I'll eventually bring back to my shadow builds.

Can someone explain why so many lists are on the 1 of of Tamiyo?
@thecntrlfreak134719 күн бұрын
For me, I had a single slot leftover, and it was between tamiyo and consider. Tamiyo gave board presence. That was about it.
@joe.5103Ай бұрын
Have you tried that GY hate card? Also did you try the Phrexian Crusader plan?
@thecntrlfreak1347Ай бұрын
I have tried crusader in a few leagues, wasn't impressed. Just felt like it was super slow coming down, especially in to any of their aggro starts, and they could just kind of ignore it pretty easily. Plus it doesn't play very well on curve in to them having blood moon or the one ring.
@joe.510329 күн бұрын
Thanks dude, this is so clutch. Rcq in a few hours but I’ve been working too much to test.
@Babyboots1Ай бұрын
It's interesting that against Boros energy you're taking out consign. Doesn't it hit ring, discharge, and static prison's ETB? Also, I'm torn between the two archcharms vs two thought scour, or as I call it dark ritual for merktide.
@thecntrlfreak1347Ай бұрын
I think consign is fine to leave like a copy in, but it gets really bad really quick if you start using it to hit amped raptor triggers or ajani triggers and don't actually deal with the creatures. You can't really afford to have dead cards in hand in the hopes they see the live things to enable them. You kind of need your stuff live at pretty much all points of the game.
@weegeesqueegee169028 күн бұрын
Consign does hit ring and prison's etb but it doesn't hit discharge. Personally against boros I prefer cutting counterspells before cutting consigns. Well actually I play UR still and i use consigns in the side so I actually bring in two of them and I end up cutting my counterspells. Counterspell trades bad against most of their threats imo. I find consign to be essentially one mana counter to static, ring, non escaped phlage, sometimes raptor cause the 2/1 isn't too problematic. Mainly just protecting murktide for 1 mana is huge and in frog lists protecting frog as well
@Babyboots128 күн бұрын
@weegeesqueegee1690 yes you're right, consign does not hit discharge, I had that question last RCQ
