LYRICS
Moving forward using all my breath
Making love to you was never second best
I saw the world crashing all around your face (let me hear you)
Never really knowing it was always mesh and lace (c'mon)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference
And it's getting better all the time
There's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you
Trapped in a state of imaginary grace
I made a pilgrimage to save this human race
Never comprehending the race has long gone by (c'mon)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference
And it's getting better all the time
There's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you
The future's open wide
I'll stop the world and melt with you
I've seen some changes
But it's getting better all the time
There's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you, yeah
The future's open wide
Let's sing along
Hmmm hmmm hmmm
Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
Hmmm hmmm hmmm
Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm
(Woah woah woah woah woah)
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah woah (pathetic, absolutely pathetic)
Woah woah woah
Woah woah woah woah
I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference
And it's getting better all the time
There's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you
I'll stop the world and melt with you
I'll stop the world and melt with you

My husband's and my song. 32 yrs of marriage (35 years of dating). We've gone through losing two children, me having a life threatening illness, medical debt, a fatal family accident, etc...but we still hold hands, check off bucket list items, AND dance to this song whenever it comes on! Thanks for creating a song that always gives us hope!!!

Back in the late 80's 2 buddies of mine were at a local bar and there was this band upstairs performing this song. The band came down to the bar after the set was over and my one friend said to one of the band members "You guys sound a lot like the band that actually released that song." Response from one of the band members :" We are the band who released that song". Jaws dropped shortly thereafter....

I worked almost 13 hours yesterday. And it's 1:30 a.m. So maybe I'm just tired and raw, but I had an unexpectedly strong emotional reaction listening this. An overwhelming feeling of simultaneous happiness and sadness that was hard to take and yet I didn't want to end. Very strange. And while I always liked the song, it was never something deep and personal to me. Until now.

I hope all of the members of Modern English read these comments. I was working in a record/CD store in the mid-80's. What a great time; the music, the genre, the generation, the self-expression ... the hair! One of my favorite songs was/is Someone's Calling and back then I'd blast it throughout the store at closing time. I Melt With You though, man ... this song in particular truly defined an era for many, and myself. I met my soulmate while this song was playing, no joke. She was working at a teen-club back in 1986 and on break. Absolutely stunning, sitting with her cigarette and drink (non-alcoholic), my friend told me to go introduce myself. Feeling like she was way out of my league, I nervously did. I believe that was fate. We dated for just over a year; some of the best times of my life. An unfortunate event separated us and we went on to marry other people. I knew I was lost without her. I knew I married the wrong woman after. But 20 years later at the end of 2006 I found her again. Both of us had recently divorced and I had a son, and she had a son and daughter. Nevertheless, we held on to each other through all of the triumphs and struggle, and we continue to do so because we would never let another thing come between us. We married in 2011. I am a blessed man to have reconnected with a love so true. To quote Rod Stewart, "You're in my heart, you're in my soul ..." But every now and then, I Melt With You will play and we will hold each other like the first night we met and danced together. It is OUR song and I cannot thank Modern English enough for such a staple in my life. You guys still rock!

@@jgramosmainchannel Please, for the love of god, can we retire this "real music!" nonsense. You sound ridiculous. What do you think Beethoven and Mozart would think of this song, which alternates between the I and IV for almost the whole song? They would not consider this "real music." But the good news is it doesn't matter. If a song speaks to somebody and brings them joy, it's real music. Why do you need to trample on what someone else likes? What is it hurting you if kids like something different? I seriously do not get this. You rag on today's youngsters, but you're the one acting like a child.

1980s kid, "The future's open wide" indeed amherst88, this is the best song, after "In a Big Country", and many years after "Cheek to Cheek". It's everything, beautiful, romantic, energetic, just the perfect blend. I used to freak out my friends, doing the beautiful slow part at a dance, with flowing arms, and then knowing exactly when to go full-body nuts!! Still my tied favorite song to dance to "Sing, sing, sing." I think there is a lot the there that I have not metered out in my mind. Thank you Modern English, for making my youth joyful!

That sounded great! There’s something to be said for the singers that didn’t scream their lungs out and now have blown out voices and sound awful. You can change out musicians. But the singers are the literal voice of the music. If they don’t sound right, then it’s not the same. That sounded excellent!

If I had a time machine…I would go back to the 80’s and never leave. Partly because of that feeling I had then but didn’t recognize it until it was gone, partly for the music and my naive optimism, and partly for the people I had around me who aren’t here anymore. This song is as close to a time machine as I am going to get. Thank you.

This actually seems like a punk rock beat to me but with an otherworldly uplifting love ballad as the message. Can't imagine not understanding why this was so infectious back in the day still being so today. "We were artists never dreaming we would do anything popular" only goes to show when your speaking from the heart to the heart us humans are always listening.

You will probably never see this but I remember the first time I ever heard this, or ever saw this video, I was very young...but it has always be one of my favorite songs...and later on.... from the moment that I met the man (well, boy then) of my dreams ..it was one of two songs we agreed on that we loved (we're talking high school when we met)... I just wish that we had played this at our wedding 28 years ago...but, we didn't get to. However, when you guys did this rendition well, it did something even more....we finally had the chance to truly dance with one of our most favorite songs...albeit, neither of us are great dancers...(I'm better but that's besides the point)....I'm glad that you all brought this back. Seeing you all, and all you did in those (these) times...it made hearts warm again. So, enough babbling... thank you. Thank you.

Now, looking back, I've lost both my parents, contracted HIV (and I'm still here!), l was diagnosed with diabetes, I have fought and beat two types of cancers, and I am currently in rehab over having my right leg amputated, last year. I look back. So many of the people that were part of my fast times, are gone. It's so nice to reminisce, seeing those from that fun era that are still here, bringing back memories of better times.
