One of my favorite one hit wonders ever! We used to go wild when this song came on in the dance clubs. To answer your question - they’re English. Times were bad in England in the very early 80s when they wrote this. Lead singer Robbie Grey said he wrote the song in 3 minutes, just off the cuff. It’s about a couple getting together during an atomic bomb. We were all very preoccupied with nuclear war then, or at least my friends and I sure were. A few years later the animated film “When the Wind Blows” came out and scared us even more. It was about an old couple getting radiation sickness after a nuclear attack. Roger Waters from Pink Floyd wrote the score. But “Melt with You,” now that you’ve heard it, it’s gonna stick with you! Trust!

To me, this is the only quintissential 80's song that actually stands the test of time. It is just as great now as it was then.
@nursemarn4 жыл бұрын
For sure! It definitely shows what was on our minds at the time. Remember doing duck and cover drills in school? Like that would do anything. I was so happy when that wall came down. Now our kids have to worry about terrorists and school shooters and cops. It’s equally horrifying.

There are other such songs.
@nursemarn4 жыл бұрын
@@CMZIEBARTH yes there are but I think that one really captures the worries we had about nuclear war. Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s it definitely influenced our generation (GenX) and how we perceived the world.

Ahhhh, the 80’s was such a great time with so many New Wave bands to dance to. Great bands to react to in this genre would be the Cure, Thompson Twins, Spandau Ballet, General Public, The Cult, Psychodelic Furs, and OMD. I could go on and on!! Obviously I love this era of music! Love your reaction to Modern English!

I am so glad this is the only video that exists for this song. This version is how we originally heard this song this is the original version of how we grew up listening to this song on the radio! . Nowadays the radio stations here in SoCal they don't play this one, they play a version that sounds similar but with no background vocals and background lyrics! I still love this song though and I get happy when a radio station does play this version! I am glad you had the opportunity to hear this song! Hopefully it makes your playlist to enjoy later! Until the next time! Peace! ✌🏼☮

Another great one I loved as a teen! Dude, you're making me so nostalgic lol. When this one came out, I was actually still in grade school. But in the late 80's in high school when my friends and I would go out dancing, it still got played back then - and besides, we'd all fallen in love with it when we were younger and it was basically a classic to us. Of course, we weren't old enough to get into clubs in high school, but we were lucky enough where I lived to have clubs that hosted teen "new wave" and "goth" nights, so all us weird kids would put on our best black outfits and eyeliner and go do exactly what you talked about - get lost on the dance floor together :) *sigh* good times, good times...

Glad you dug it! Classic 80s song. Very fun and catchy. Hmm hmm hmm... I love that humming part. Saw the video on MTV a whole lot. That was funny when you asked what country they were from...ha ha. I know you were not surprised they were British. Once - I was young and I'm NOT comparing maturity - there was a German lady who came to our Girls of America meeting to speak. I raised my hand to ask "what language do they speak in Germany?" Duh! German! Ha ha. That was funny - and embarrassing because I was sitting with a group of my peers or whatever. Enjoy your day!
