Turkey's empire had almost all of Southeast Europe and it was considered European back then. They still have lands in Europe, and many people still consider them European. Some racist butthurt people who get offended because an "Islamic" (Actually secular, but governed by a government that half of the country hates) country could be European don't decide whether or not it is European.
