I honestly never thought he was. 🤔 I see Stonestreet as a convincing (award-winning) actor because his real personality, as far as you can tell from interviews and such, is quite different. He comes across much more "tough" and confident and low-key and not nearly as melodramatic or hysteric or snarky as our (very lovable!) drama queen Cam tends to be. The man is just charismatic both in and out of character but that's it, really. The rest is just original acting. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you saw him on other programs, CSI Vegas for example as a lab rat, you begin to understand he is really an actor in the true sense. I enjoy his work.

He`s HILARIOUS as Cam and one of my favorite characters in Modern Family and the competition is tough.

He says it's not a big deal but it's definitely interesting to see a very straight character play what is essentially a gay icon. There's a chance Mitchell and Cam have done just as much as any politician who fights for LGBT rights in their portrayal of these guys, in terms of making it very normal

I don’t like clowns, but think it’s cool that he created that caricature and brought it on set! I would be happy to meet him in real life! I did the same to Ty meeting him in person, but now when I see him from time to time with his family I understand that he’s just a normal guy, who has won awards.

It's like Bea Arthur vs Betty white in the golden girls. Bea Arthur is very much like her character Dorothy. Stoic and straight to the point. Betty White is the complete opposite of her character, as she said in her interview. Betty is very sharp and picks the atmosphere very quickly. Rose, on the other hand, is an airhead.

Well there are great portrayals of straight actors playing gay characters like Cameron Monaghan , Noel Fisher , Timothy chalamet etc they were fearless and pretty fine about filming the most intimate scenes with another straight actor. Looking at it now Eric stonestreet's performance was really stereotypical old woman like gay he avoided tpintimate scenes with his costar and thus personally I felt like they were like Smurf who live on a one mushroom house
