This is the problem with Hollywood. Everyone knows the actors who basically just do as they are told but almost no one knows the brilliant writers who make the actual art.

This was a fantastic scene, I just wish they'd have nailed it from a narrative progression standpoint. Alex is a typical Type A personality - brilliant, ambitious, diligent. But she's also socially awkward and deeply insecure, which is why (as a defense mechanism) she's condescending towards Haley who has something she secretly covets - a vibrant social life. Here, if Alex had only got through her interview using Haley's advice (which she almost did!) it would have taught her a valuable life lesson - that book-smart isn't everything and a rounded, adventurous personality is important even to top Ivy League schools since they value diversity on their campuses. Plus she'd have also learnt to appreciate people like Haley and Phil who are light-footed in the journey of life. The interviewer had already read the application materials of all these accomplished candidates. That's why they made it this far! She desperately wanted to know them as people, which is why she found Alex so damn interesting. Ergh! god I wish they'd stuck the landing on this gem of scene!

This point of view is absolutely fantastic and very realistic. When you spend all your life working toward a dream,you forget you are a human being, you become a robot focused on results. Yet the same people who brainwashed you into thinking you need that robotic perfection lay you off for not being spontaneous, adventurous or easy going enough 😂 they all can go eat a bag of dicks

The whole thing shows what's wrong with today's society. Academic people are forced to fit in by shallow standards. Pathetic. Alex is amazing in every ways, she din't have to pretend to be someone else to get into Princeton.
@VideoGuy2322 жыл бұрын
The far more reasonable way of phrasing your insight is that academic people (and let’s be frank here, all people) are forced to STAND OUT in order to succeed. Alex came into that interview like every other applicant, and would have failed to differentiate herself from the other candidates had she not overheard the interviewer and heard Haley’s story beforehand. Why would they choose or even remember her if she has the exact same credentials as her peers? The takeaway being that a well rounded personality is a positive, not a negative. And that conformity is not limited to “superficial societies,” but also “academic societies.” Why is it suddenly better to conform to an academic stereotype as opposed to a social one like Haley? I think you’ll find that one isn’t inherently superior to the other
@clonnlijinhlong2713 Жыл бұрын
Yeah true. But it definitely helps to "stand out", BUT (again) the staff/admission board shouldn't deprive admission for talented students just because the other's have a more "likeable" and different personality. This is also something wrong with today's world, if you're like Alex, they would call you boring and "not living life" but in all seriousness, when you're hailey, they would call you a skank, and doesn't have self respect, etc. I mean, tell it from these influencer videos where they interview people on the streets, people who don't do wild things are called boring and "future cat-lady". But when the people did something like destroying ex's shirt or stealing things from a store once...the people would be like...OMG SLAYYY, I WISH TO BE FRIENDS WITH HER, etc

@earedrobot7906 Жыл бұрын
Hollywood is full braindead spiteful losers who resent smart accomplished people, hence why. Irl Alex would have best of both worlds cause she's both accomplished and pretty, while Hailey would be some high school dropout that does onlyfans not because she cant study but because these kind of people think they are too good to make an effort and they deserve better in exchange of nothing. The problem with people like Hailey and the interviewer is the lack of manners and the latent narcissistic personalities what makes them so unlikeable, not that they are pretty or sexy. Smart people with good careers are usually very social and well liked, people who peaked in high school are not.
