All of the voltage amplifier tubes which are 12AX7, 12AU7, 12BH7 and 12AZ7 are vintage and hand selected USA - mostly JAN (the 12AZ7's in the old amps like mine are nowadays replaced with 12AT7's as the Z7's are hard to come by.) I get very good performance with Telefunken also. I haven't owned any of the Genelex voltage amplifier tubes yet. I will have to try them some day.

Unfortunately, I don't have any vintage Gold Lions so I compare them to. I recently bought some new Russian made Genalex Gold Lions KT88's for my MC 275 and they sounded so good they almost brought tears to my eyes (seriously). I think we get what we expect and listen for. It is just too ethereal and subjective to make any sense. It's almost a religion and I think it depends on how we are listening at the time. A true blind test would destroy a belief system when it comes to vacuum tubes.

Ahhh, the Dynaco MK III Have the New Sensor KT-88s in my MK III amps, driven by a PAS 2, VERY nice through a pair of 1967 Klipschorns ! Thanks for your evalutation! (PS. you've got some pretty brightly colored coupler caps too ...)

Have you ever tested the new tungsol KT120s? I am interested in those for my Fryette Ultralead Guitar amplifier in place of the Tungsol KT88's from 2006 that I currently have installed. Have you analyzed many tungsol tubes? Opinions?

Sounds good, may I ask what preamp tubes you are using? Are they new production Gold Lions as well or nos tubes?

I have only tested the KT120's in the new VTA amps and, I respectfully say, I was not impressed. As or Tung Sol's, I buy then and sell then as replacements and they seem good quality. I also like Mullard and Svetlana. It appears to me the premium tubes are often times new in the better equipment. As for buying tubes, I fear that many that we get are mediocre in quality but, what can we do? New Genelex Gold Lions don's seem to last near as long as I would expect them to - that's my experience.
