In 1955, the MJQ had a 4 night stand in Washington DC. Connie Kay had recently joined the group. My buddy and I were there from the opening number the first night till the closing on the fourth. As everyone was leaving, John Lewis stopped at our table and thanked us for being there every night. This was a great moment for me and is still a high point 67 years later.

Und auch wenn Du 40 Jahre Musiker bist. Solche Momente sind nicht zu begreifen. Und genau da beginnt die Magie der Musik. Und genau darum wirst Du Musiker,.

Ian Rowlandian Early 50’s I was stationed in Germany and got to know Milt Jackson’s sounds and I was enamored for life. MJQ put out a lot of super, grade recordings and I agree sound just as good today as then. Happy listening!

The MJQ were for jazz addicts who knew great jazz. I'm not supprised at the lack of interest. HOWEVER...when I play them and the listener gives in....then they know what they've been missing. I'm oh so grateful I saw them live in Montreux in 1984. Great performance. It was here that I learned how they loved their music and each other when they played. I've seen nothing like it since.

Nope. I would have gotten fired 1,000x's over for such an infraction of store policy.

Just like the Beatles' music: good jazz just doesn't go away. Milt Jackson one of the undeniable stars of the group; but the drummer is really driving the band with solid grooves. Just a great jazz group.

++thomas moje They produced great music that hasna dated at all. Percy Heath is also a great player who seems to be under-rated. I saw the group in the UK in 1960, give or take a year or so. A great experience.

Speak about an addiction of sorts as an explanation for what directed my search for excellence in jazz improvisation, here it is. The bass solo is enough for me to remain attached to this group's total series of performances without abandoning my quest for music during forty or more years. This might have been the last concert but it measures up favorably with their impact on my search for revelations of creativity especially by the pianist and bassist. John Lewis by himself is enough to keep me a true believer in the group.

Their albums are still being repressed and I think they keep reaching new audiences every year. They were impressive. And the solo bass here is sooooo good....

sad that this was transferred at the wrong speed. its too fast which puts it in F# rather than the real key of F. Someone with the name "RareMusicUploads" Should know what key its in

++nedsammy They eventually settle to clapping on the 1st and 3rd beats instead of the 2nd and 4th which is the usual way people do it at jazz performances.
