It's not entirely true, in Europe here we use the Visumax laser for Relex Smile, which does each eye in 8 seconds

That was the best comparation possible, I am going to ask about TG Lasik instead of smile and see the face of the optometrist.

For very active persons like martial artists, swimmers, etc., isn't the LASIK flap cornea mechanically less stable than the Relex Smile treated cornea? Is the Relex Smile treated patient less likely to have regression, less likely to need a touch up surgery?

SMILE doesn't do a corneal flap. Just a small keyhole incision (about 2mm) rather the 20mm flap
@Hawthorne-Studios2 жыл бұрын
You cannot join military/police etc with LASIK due to that, Relex is fine as it's much stronger and less invasive.

You can join the army even though you had LASIK surgery. It s even the Force suggesting LASIK in the medical division for soldiers who needs it. Times change.

I thought that Smile introduced the least amount of HOA Spherical aberrations of them all. Could you specify the HOA's you are talking about and the problem with the specific HOA's ? I am in the process of researching which eye surgery I should go with. My gut feeling tells me to go with tPRK. I think Smile looks good but is heavily marketed by a certain company and because of that I am really cautious. Also my technical questions are almost never answered by most clinics I go to. This info is really welcome.

All types of laser eye ops cause permanent corneal nerve damage which can result in horrific eye and even neuropathic pain, and this is why it's Russian Roulette anywhere!
@ceelo8262 жыл бұрын
It can cause symptoms of eye discomfort that last longer than the others since you're waiting for the outer layer of the cornea to regenerate.
@TOMLINBISH2 жыл бұрын
@@ceelo826 But as with lasik, the corneal nerves will still be permanently damaged because they never go back to what they were before the ops!
@teddysurf2 жыл бұрын
@@TOMLINBISH with PRK it’s not exactly the same thing, because the corneal nerves regrow from the outside to the center with the remaining epithelium. So once it regrows, you still have a full electrical, nerve pathway. Lasik, you sever the nerves and then place the flap back, and the electrical pathways never fully recover.
