but... some modern movies can actually be scary without graphic content. check out berberian sound studio, for example. ok, it's a little vintage in terms of aesthetics and it deconstructs the cliches of italian giallo movies so if you don't have a background, you probably will not fully appreciate this movie but even without getting all the references it's still really good, it's one of the most original and unusual horror movies i've ever seen. and there's not a single drop of blood on the screen!

Yes! That's why I like the gremlin episode of the Twilight Zone or even Blink from Dr. Who. What I don't like is going to the movies and watching trypophobia-triggering scenes from the Candyman remake or throwing up my soda during an extremely graphic scene of a hand being cut off.

Everyone has a "zone" in which they a comfortable. I can't stand most torture porn of today. Martyrs or Hostel for example are too much for me. On the other hand I might watch Bela Lugosi or Boris Karloff films, but more for the fun and historical curiosity than for actual scares. "Devils rejects" is a sample of my sweet spot.

people confuser slasher films with scary/horror movies way to often. Slasher films are blood and guts, Scary movies are things that give you nightmares. Nightmare on Elm street is a slasher film. Yes but in the original, Bobby Boris Pickett is doing a Boris Karloff impression, and Boris Karloff is the guy who plays the monster, not the Doctor. But yes the original is written from the point of view of the Doctor. So it's a little confusing to start with. Anyway I decided I'd rather dress up like the Monster. -Mark
