hi Nathan, I prefer the sound of Lass3 vs MSS. I don't do much orchestral stuff but I love playing around with these libraries. Decent spring sale on mss now and I'm tempted because I want the extra articulations and think I'd be happy to stick to the audiobro engine workflow, (bought Pacific and I'm not sure how to jam with per patch libraries yet, excited for the solo instruments though) anyways, I don't want to buy everything that tickles my fancy but want more articulations than Lass. Looking at the upcoming Soundpaint Adastra strings as a possible gas inhibitor. I like the sound from the demos I've heard but obviously won't know how it sounds until it's released. Do you think SP will radically change string section usability for the masses? Appreciate your videos, now please tell me how to spend my money. Ps. think audiobro could do better with their crossgrade offers even when on sale.

I keep meaning to try Soundpaint but honestly have not gotten around to it, apologies! I honestly have no idea if it will change things. I will say that it's better to learn what you have and try to make it as expressive as you can until you truly feel that you "need" something new. Because a lot of new products are the typical consumer "you need this" and we get pulled toward it because it got introduced to us something we are told we need. We respond, "hmm, yeah I guess I would be interested in needing that!" But often if it didn't exist we wouldn't have entertained needing it.

Great walkthroughs! Can you do a quick comparison of the NI Symphony Series/Essentials Strings with MSS at some point?
@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed3 жыл бұрын
that sounds like a good idea. i should write a piece that can be used for multiple strings packages. yeah, i should do that. someday. :D

Thanks for all your videos Nathan, serum one is awesome - would you say MSS are industry standard? Also, how would you say they compare to Spitfire BBC Symphony strings?
@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! To me BBCSO sounds like a concert, not necessarily a film. MSS sounds like contemporary film scoring (Marvel etc.). It’s probably too new to be an ‘industry standard’ and even so, I think real orchestras are still recorded often enough to be the standard for large budget movies.

I have this kind of a question. I'm damn new in this activity and all I have is a nice laptop, Nektar GX61, Studio One 5 Artist and Spitfire/Cinematic strings. I have problems with the latency as it takes time to react, especially the delay grows when I press the lower keys. I would like to know maybe could it be because I'm connecting the MIDI directly to the laptop? I have Presonus Audio Interface and considering to buy a MIDI with a 5 pin cable support so it will be connected to laptop through audio interface. What MIDI do you have and what advice or link among your videos would you share if possible? Thanks in advanced!
@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed3 жыл бұрын
The MIDI connector probably is not creating extra latency (USB MIDI or 6-pin MIDI shouldn’t make any difference). What is the latency buffer in Studio One? Shorter (smaller number) will be faster, and, there is also an option to turn off any plugins introducing extra delay while recording MIDI, for faster response time. Easiest to check with drum sounds like a snare sound or rim shot sound that is pretty “instant”.

Can I, through this library, write dynamics in score or velocity studio one one and cancel the dynamics from the library for long notes legato? play long dynamics control velocity legato ?
@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed2 жыл бұрын
If I understand the question, yes you can control dynamics in four ways and one of them is velocity. Studio One can be configured to send this MIDI information to Kontakt with the score features, but I have not played with them much yet; I usually use the automation lanes for velocity and mod wheel, etc.
@mmoo3642 жыл бұрын
@@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed Yes, you understood my question, but I want to make sure before purchasing this library. I own a Spitfire library but the long note I can't control with Velocity. I had to make a track for the long notes and a track for the short notes. Can Legato tones in this library be able to be controlled by Velocity?

@@mmoo364 yes, you can configure MIDI velocity to control dynamics of long notes in Modern Scoring Strings. If you want to ask the developers to explain more, they have an AudioBro forum here: audiobro.com/forums/

So with Con Moto being on DISCONTINUATION SALE, I guess this Modern Scoring Strings library would make more sense to buy right now? I own SF Chamber, Symphonic and Solo Strings aswell as Jaeger and the NI Komplete 12 CE stuff. Any thoughts if this library would add enough value for its price to my existing libraries I have?
@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed3 жыл бұрын
I have all those except Jaeger and this one is unique in my collection. I would say Con Moto is unique as well. It’s difficult to compare Con Moto to anything else out there, it’s pretty unique, but highly specialized and basically one articulation. MSS is a treasure trove. The biggest differences with Spitfire are the tone and space and vibrato, plus all the aleatoric and runs etc. MSS is extremely versatile and doesn’t sound as British as Spitfire.
@maxackerman73643 жыл бұрын
@@NathanDavidCarltonSoundbed Hey thanks for your reply! Interesting thoughts. I'm actually looking into MSS also because of the ostinato function. I feel like its very difficult for me to write clean legato ostinati with the spitfire legatos, f.e. if i would want to do something in the style of Philip Glass. The legato transitions feel very sluggish (I played around with speed / velocity and different legato types). But this could also be on my side of programming. any thoughts on this? :)
