It will always amaze me how people can transform shipping containers into such beautiful homes. When looking at a shipping container, essentially an industrial tool, there’s nothing about it that should make us think of anything that resembles the notion of home. And yet, people can take these metal boxes and transform them into the most wonderful abodes. Modern, comfortable and cosy, Germaine’s container home is a perfect example of this. We hope you enjoy the tour! With Love, Bryce & Rasa

I felt it too. I’m in the process of doing that as well. I’m going through everything & dividing things into keep & donate. The things I’m donating I’m boxing up, when I have a goodly amount a friend comes, picks them up, & takes them & delivers them for me. The things I’m keeping I’m also boxing because I’m searching for a new apartment/home. It feels like this releasing/packing is taking forever. I have physical restrictions so my ‘feet time’ is very limited. The ‘in between’ is overwhelming & claustrophobic. Meanwhile…I see myself living in a (much) larger & totally accessible home which is spacious & organized. I REALLY need to set up my art studio as well as have a place to see friends & clients. (And So It is!)

This is perhaps the first shipping container home I've seen that feels open and sunlight-filled; the interior white-colored paint helps with that, but so too do the windows Germaine has strategically placed throughout the structure. Privacy appears to be another benefit to this abode: From the street, it looks inhospitable and cold, but, again, the interior is cozy. This "Living Big in a Tiny House" episode has given me inspiration to explore ideas surrounding shipping homes; the $128,000 USD cost she paid is reasonable for the stellar result. Great video!

I wish she had addressed what is under her container. It looks like a separate unit that could be rented. If that is the case, then what a great way to maximize a small lot. The fact that she didn't have to do significant earth work and was able to just place them on an existing carport makes this so much more economical.

Ok, but what's the space under the house used for? In every shot you can see there's a room down there. Is that in use? Is it going to be refurbished too? It seems so strange to talk about a property and the packaging and use of space, but completely ignore a third of the structure underneath. Am I missing something?

When she said that the whole bedroom container was designed around her wardrobe, I yelled out 'hell yeah!'. I'm so tired of these tiny homes having storage for maybe 10 pieces of clothing! I too love clothes and shoes. If I need another container for them, so be it! Enough of this minimalist crap. And I love that she pours some champagne or sparkling wine with her meal! I want to be her neighbor! LOL!

As much as I agree, it does depend on one’s lifestyle and location. She’s alone, and lives an urban lifestyle. That’s different than being off grid with little kids. Minimalist is great for those it works for. Doesn’t mean it’s shit.

Stunning home, especially with that view. Love how she couldn’t sacrifice her wardrobe and didn’t down size. For those being judgmental, it depends on one’s needs, lifestyle and location. She’s alone, divorced and her kids are grown up, she lives an urban lifestyle near the city. Very different than if you’re a family of 4, small kids, pets, and life off grid out in nowhere. I wanna go tiny, but storage is always an issue in these houses and I refuse to down sizes my wardrobe as I love fashion. I totally agree with that vanity/sink lol. I was recently in Edinburgh (airbnb), and they have a similar tony sink, and it was a huge pain. Water everywhere regardless of how careful I was to not spill, and even worse when I was to wash my face, I had to stand sideways and my head would still hit the brick wall. Not a pleasant feeling🫠 Beautiful woman, and love her personality and her journey on self discovery and renewal after the separation/divorce. Shedding the old and be reborn. And focus on her mental health and well being, yet stay close to family and experience new adventures❤️

We, too, looked at container homes, then SIP panels, then settled on a steel frame, board n baton THOWs, offgrid and love it. From memory I think the condensation was the decider because we too wanted great insulation. I do agree, it's a special space that we cocreated and it's enough Ness makes me giggle too, especially when compared to cleaning big spaces with too much wasted space. I loved the entire journey as I can tell you and your builder did, bringing your visions to fruition. Gorgeous new beginnings ✨️

Before falling in love with and buying the plans for my future THOW I briefly toyed with the idea of making a shipping container tiny house because I love recycling and the stability of shipping containers. She did an incredible job with hers and I love the kitchen because it’s very similar to what mine will be like in my future THOW and is actually the entire reason I fell in love with it and bought the plans for it because I love to cook and make homemade pasta from scratch so I need the work and storage space for all of my appliances/tools I use. Great tiny house!

Another beautiful design. Interesting that she wanted to divide the kitchen and lounge area with the bedroom, I understand the need to have her own "sanctuary" and above all, a good space for the wardrobe and bathroom. However, I wonder if it wouldn't have been better to make a connection so as not to go out between one container and another, well, they're still extremely close anyway. I was trying to understand what's underneath its construction, a concrete platform but there's more, I imagine that to get to the garden she'll have to go out on the other side and down... 🤔 this thing intrigues me, I have to watch the video again many times. Excellent life choice for Germain. Thank you Rasa and Bryce who inspire me more and more on how I would like to live!

Hehe true that... Gratitude should be the attitude. Agreed... But once in a while, we should all follow our hearts and see where it takes us... otherwise it would be too mechanical of a life... There's absolutely nothing wrong in treating yourself good and working to meet desires/luxuries of life and getting in touch with Nature side of things... Since time immemorial, building one's own house from scratch and moving into it has been Man's one of the most oldest, natural and innate desire... Not only it symbolizes the feeling of security and home but also is an artistic reflection of who you are as a person and thus extension of your personality... Ofcourse, it all comes with its own set of challenges but then what's life without them... It's the difficult times that makes the happier times more sweet.

A fellow anti-hoarder 😊 I am living solo in my 3br 2 bath now empty nest family house with 1/4 acre block and swimming pool which all requires continuous maintenance, causing me much anxiety. I feel like I’m working just to pay for the upkeep! I am slowly decluttering which provides immense satisfaction so that one day I will downsize to a beautifully decorated space(s) with a wonderful view just like Germaine’s. This home ticks so many of my boxes: an entryway that is still partially outdoors so I don't track dirt or water or mud into the rest of the house (a sort of genkan), separation of private and public areas, having a wonderful view and the house raised (it's on a slope) but the house itself is one level, and small enough to be cozy and efficient but large enough to be comfy. I'd take this design in a heartbeat.

I love it when we get to see the tiny home concept applied in an "unconventional" way! Funny that there's such a thing as a conventional tiny house, but I hope my meaning got across. I felt the same way about that studio-home video of that guy in the UK. I don't think I'd like to step outside to go to the kitchen in winter, but I can see it not being a big deal for someone. Loved her attitude and the mindset in which she decided what she wanted and needed. Really cool!

And I love that her bedroom was a sanctuary, separate from the clothes/ clutter. it means friends can see her bed, looking more like a day bed and therefore not so intimate - without the clutter which is even more private and personal.
