This way of instituting port forwarding is flawed because it assumes only one person on the local network (your home) is trying to play, so the person with 'that' network address will always get the incoming packets meant for that port regardless of which host they were really intended for. @@deadshothdgaming2688 it depends on your router/modem. I was using that TMobile 5G and even open nat type, still had significant lag because 5G connection is unstable. Best to not deal with 5G internet for gaming, it's not steady enough at all. I returned that thing and went back to fios

I would fist ask how you know your getting packet loss since it doesn't really work that way... ie being application specific unless there is a problem with the application or install (currupt files perhaps) Packet loss is normally a network issue which is not application specific but network related, though (for example) applications that send larger packets than others or fragmented packets, may be affected more. At any rate if your getting packet loss, and that is genuine packet loss, then you have a problem with network equipment such as a router, switch or network card, or perhaps (but less likely) the configuration. If you have a packet loss error in an application (like MW2 displays), then that means nothing, as that can mean anything the application determines as 'packet loss'. I would look up how the application defines 'packet loss' and go from there.

Bro i started playing warzone 2.0 and had 20% packet loss standard each game tried it on my ps5 it was the same so i thought it was the game. Turns out it was my windows firewall outbound ports weren't input correctly or something. I added these you showed here and boom no packet burst. Ps5 cannot be port forwarded becuase of my router so it's gonna be scrubbed forever but my pc is at 0% THANK YOUUUUUU

Whats really strange for me, my xbox networking, on windows 10, says Open NAT without needing a an open port, but other games I forwarded are strict NAT. Like 2009 mw2 is allllways strict. Even with DMZ and port trigger, proper firewall passthrough for the process. I can open a port for a minecraft server just fine, and online tools see the port is open when running the server. But some games staying strict :/

for some reason when u use the charter spectrum mobile app, you cannot put a comma or hyphen when entering the external and internal port, and i cant paste in text. There is also no way to open these advanced settings on an actual pc browser- you have to use the app. I ended up only putting 4379 for internal and external instead of 4379-4380 as well as for 27000-27050 i only input 27000. Will this have a big impact since i could input the second set of numbers?

I need help so bad. The campaign works just fine for me in 1440p @ over 120 fps. But when I play on MP, my frames don't really go above 40-50 and drop all the way down to the single digits and my in game latency jumps up to over 120ms ping. I am going to try this, but I have literally tried everything. Even wiping my entire computer and doing a fresh windows install. I just don't think this is going to fix anything. I didn't have this problem with Black Ops Cold War or Vanguard. IDK what gives.

You should never really have to adjust your Windows firewall setting since installing MW2 should do this automatically. However! After performing the install you will always get a notification from Windows firewall that "An application" in this case MW2 is attempting to make a connection and do you want to allow this. REMEMBER this will only happen once! after the install and if you miss the message (possibly because MW2 is in the foreground) and/or click on it without acknowledging yes, you have just screewed yourself and will then have to enable it manually. MW2 does this using the executable associated with the software so you don't need to do it via ip, just the port. Additionally, you should not 'strictly' have to make any changes on your router for outgoing connections if your software is coded (made) properly. Port forwarding is really only used/needed when the connections are initiated from the outside first i.e when you have no outgoing connection first but an internet host wants to send packets to your PC. This can be the case when you are hosting a game server but RARELY when you are the host connecting to a game server, why? because the way he firewall should work is that your pc launches the game then initiates the connection outwards, when the firewall sees the packets coming baack from the internet, it says "Ah ok, we initiated this connection first so the stuff coming back from the internet is allowed." Yes normally more than one port is in use, but these ports should be First initiated internally that way they a can be accounted for and 'opened' for returning packets. Also! when it is done this way (correctly) it means that more than one host on your home network (you and your brother who play together for example) can each play successfully, because the firewall knows host-A (you) initiated this connection so send the incomming packets to you, and host-B (your brother) initiated the second connection and send the associated packets to him. Some times issue can occur a port is closed and you can for example lose your voice channel, or even the game may become responsive. it is much easier and safer to just re-launch the application and re-establish connections that leaving ports open on your router, which provides any wiseguy who discovers it, and open channel from the internet to your host.

From a IT security perspective there's no way a game need this many network ports just to be able to create a map and host a lobby. Seems awe-fully strange in hindsight.

I had to change the NAT type from Symmetric to Full-cone and back again to finally get an open NAT on MW2 I still have UPnP on and the ports manually forwarded

I had a hell of a time getting an open nat today. I did everything mentioned for port forwarding and firewall settings...moderate nat. Then I just added my IP as DMZ and STILL moderate nat. Here is what I did to get open nat. My asus router has a section under the advanced settings for WAN. On that page, under the section "basic config", there is a "NAT type" setting. There are two options. Mine was set to "symmetrical". I changed it over to "fullcone". OPEN NAT!! I hope this helps at least one person.
