Yes, We run into that situation on occasion, the best way to deal with that is to take out a bunch more rocks, we usually rip some pieces of plywood about 16 inches wide and try to position them under the liner, sometimes you have to get very creative to make it work! I cut my liner too short one time and April saemed a piece to it and it was folded up like an accordion. Time and patience are highly underrated😂🤣😂

I've used acetone (cheap by the gallon at Sally Beauty Supply stores when on sale) and someone said gasoline so I've used that too. Both are great at prep'ing the EPDM liner. I've also used water but bc I do NOT want to re-seam anything bc I've got a leak, I'm super fussy about the prep. I also do the multiple layer priming and sealing as they've done in the video.

It's brilliant to see how much work goes into joining liner sheets.....wow I can see why people buy them so large they have to move them with heavy machinery - fewer seams! Amazing job you did there. But pray tell, how thick is the liner in this video because you don't seem too worried about puncturing it? Also how long does it take for the seam to dry so that it's safe to move, fold and such?

This is an awesome video, I'm just curious about the temperature used to weld these pondliners, please let us know what temperature you use when welding a pondliner and what's the base temperature to weld a pondliner
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction Жыл бұрын
The temperature requirements are listed on the seaming products. I’ve used them when it was nearly freezing, and simply worked with a heater and a tarp over top to keep it warm. If it’s extremely hot, sometimes we need to work underneath a tarp to keep the sun off of it so it does not dry too quickly. Other than that rain is the only thing that gets us. The liners need to be dry and too high of a moisture Content will cause the seam to fail.

Excellent video. BUT, what if I want to use old and crusty abandoned above ground pools for making a swimming hole? Of course I would pressure wash the heck out of it first. But will it work? I live out in the desert just north of Los Angeles and this area grows more pot/weed/grass than even Humboldt County. They put about $150K into a grow site and make $1.5 million off the first clipping. Then they get the heck out of there and leave most of it behind. Wood, greenhouses, water tanks, fences and pools. Lots of above ground pools. I collect the remnants and sell it. I make a good living off of the lumber. But it gets hot as heck out here in the summer, so I need a place to cool off. Can't do a regular pool because of the wind driven sand plus I have no electrical source other than solar. So I thought that a living pond with a rubber bottom would work. I can setup a simple pump and filter to recycle and aerate the water. Make it at least 6 feet deep at one end so the little fish can live down there in the winter. It would stay at around 56° at that depth. Warm enough I think for the right fish. I would plant some hearty water plants that can survive the cold winter and the hot summer. And it would be big enough for swimming. Then fill it with delivery water at $150 per 4000 gallons and hope it doesn't leak

Hi John I have a question on seaming the liners together from old pond to new. I enlarged my pond and have to seam the old pond liner to the new liner. I have liner that is under the rocks exposed along the edge of the pond, it is about 12 inches in length. Is it better to use the liner from the old pond that is on the edge of the pond that was not under water or is it best to lower the water level of the pond and lift the liner up and use that part of the liner to seam.
@KoiAddiction

I dont think it matters as long as the liner is in good shape and perfectly, brand-new clean. Be careful with the folds!

Go to the Firestone website and get tons of information there on their TIS (technical information sheets). www.firestonebpco.com/ Check out their EPDM lines in all areas bc the products overlap. In fact, they've taken the same EPDM material and rebranded it as GeoGard, PondGard and RubberGard. QuickPrime is the seaming solvent. I've researched this shyte inside and out and upside and downside! And that includes speaking with their technical specialists bc I do NOT want to have to touch the liner ever again ... well, maybe if a tree falls on it and I need to repair it. But NOT bc I didn't seam it right. Going behind incompetence is a bloody PITA. Here, see if this gets you closer: www.firestonebpco.com/us-en/search?q=*quickseam%20primer&fq=(type:assets) I've used QuickPrime in quart and now gallon bc the gallon is a better deal if you need it-and I do.

I have about a 3-5 foot seem to make. Do I need both the 3" and the 6". I see that the 6" cover tape costs about $120 for 25ft roll. Seems like a big waste for such a small seem. It is in a stream that brings water to the pond. Not a lot of elevation change.
@KoiAddiction
@KoiAddiction 4 жыл бұрын
I always use the added protection of both. Not worth the $ to come back and fix it later. It may be ok without, I have never tried it-when rolled into the cost of a project, it seems like cheap insurance to me👍
@JillofAllTrades2
@JillofAllTrades2 4 жыл бұрын
You can buy 6" cover tape by the section: I've seen by the foot and even as low as by 3" or 4". It's definitely a pricey product, but beats the heck out of having to revisit the liner because it wasn't done right ... and that's EXACTLY where I'm at. I gave up on someone else doing it and have begun the process myself. I'm confident it won't leak this time around! :) I might save a bit for future repairs and go ahead and sell my excess seaming and cover tape.
