The white American band member's name is Randy Ebright. His father was a DEA agent, and moved the family to Mexico city when Randy was 15. Randy later on married a Mexican woman and they had a daughter. During a visit to the U.S., the Michigan-born, New Orleans-raised Randy Ebright had his half-Mexican daughter hassled by immigration officers in Miami for having a Mexican Passport. “It was, like, it was soooo out of the ordinary that an American guy would be with a Mexican woman,” says Ebright, drummer for Molotov. That is why he wrote this song.

He wrote it with hatred towards racism because he has a Mexican / American daughter so the drummer's daughter received a lot of racism for being a good half and half Mexican. And even if you told them that she was American, she still received racism so her father the drummer wrote a song for racism since it did not matter that you were American, you continued receiving racism only because of the factions that she had.... 😁

Mexicans have always lived in Texas and California, Nevada, Utah, most of Arizona, the western half of New Mexico, the western quarter of Colorado, and the southwest corner of Wyoming (half of Mexico) and now when “we come over” we get treated like shit. Do your research brotha Mexican history our ancestors blood is in the Alamo in San Antonio, Tx because of Mexico’s victory there. And also blood of brave Mexican solders defending Mexican territory in the great loss in San Jacinto, Texasin 1836. USA got the w by attacking us while we slept. Santanna was the leader at the time

Some context: -This song was written by Randy Ebright after his daughter and wife (who are both mexicans) were detained for seemingly no reason at the border -The term "frijolero" or "beaner" is a racial slur used to refer to mexicans, like the "n-word" with african americans -The term "gringo" refers to American people, but it isn´t a slur or an insult

One of the members of Molotov, the drummer Randy Ebright, who is in fact a "gringo" from Michigan, has had several bad experiences entering his own country with his family. Randy has said that the US agents always go through their personal belongings at customs just because they see that his wife and daughter are latinas. It seems that a "white" guy with a "brown" family is something like a crime so they are separated and put into different lines, and then they're inspected and interrogated. Even his daughter, since the time she was a very, very young child has been inspected and interrogated by the US officials. This inspired Ebright and the rest of the band to write a song about mistreatment of immigrants in the United States. Immigrants, especially those coming from Latin American countries such as México and Venezuela, are mistreated and often turned away or even imprisoned.

Like hip-hop, back in the day, this is protest rap/rock/regional and yes, with some anger. But in Mexico we use self ridicule and comedy to empower us. We celebrate death and parade around in costumes to ease the hardship. In this case, the back& forth between Mexico and the US. is being made fun of. The "gringo" standing on native soil and claiming authority, and the Mexican telling him off in a comedic way in their own slang in spanish. Being called a beaner, ( a poor person's diet) , with the intention to belittle, again, it's flipped around into a joke. Underneath it all, a very serious and painful reality, humans divided by hate.

This son is the anthem of how we Mexicans feel about our relation with the US, and I kinda feel like you should be at least pissed with US too

Yes, “beaner” is a derogative term for a Mexicans crossing the border… as if all they eat are beans. You will not hear the term too often if you live far from the southern states.

They call us beaners, because we eat beans a lot, is part of our gastronomic culture, but they think it is a discriminating word, but its not at all for us, because we are proud of eating frijoles. If not for Santa Ana the ground your feet is planted it would be México, correcto!
