I'm out of that industry now, but when I was doing hotel AV work, I would have loved having a flipper. Dozens of TV types, and just needing to change input or volume often left me walking a show floor with cargo pockets full of remotes. The ninja remotes were cool, but it took so long to go from unit to unit. Not to mention, having a dedicated RF spectrum analyzer. One of those is still going to end up in my toolbox at some point. Love the opensource "I have a problem, I bet other people need it as well."

One of the things about the "restricted frequencies" means that if you have like, a garage door opener from the mid 1990's, then it probably runs on frequencies that have since been restricted. Your old equipment is grandfathered in and not in violation of FCC stuff, but you making a new remote to open it is kind of in a grey area. So, if you use something like the unleashed firmware, your flipper can now open the garage door you own.

There were universal remote apps for the Palm Pilot! There were even universal remote apps for the HP 48 calculator's IR "data transfer" system. (I had way too much fun in class in high school with my HP 48.)
@HaloInverse26 күн бұрын
I used to have a PalmPilot, can vouch for this. Unfortunately (at least on mine) the IR transciever was designed to work at fairly close ranges (e.g. transferring data between two PalmPilots), and didn't have enough oomph to reliably control a TV at normal TV-watching distances, let alone TV-mischief distances. The implementation was proto-NFC, not proto-Bluetooth. You _could_ buy IR amplifiers for PalmPilots, but I never saw them for sale locally, sadly.

@tigerchills207924 күн бұрын
Ah.. and my personal guess, why the Flipper Zero doesn't support it: The Flipper focusses on the most interesting bands where you find most consumer hardware: on the ISM bands. That's 315 MHz and 915 MHz in the US; in Europe that's 433 MHz and 868 MHz. There is quite a gap between 468 and 868 MHz. It also skips PMR446.

Great... another video downplaying the risks such devices pose... Buddy of mine went to a convention where somebody was messing about with one of these (...and bragging about it online, so we know FOR SURE that it was a flipper zero device doing it. Because there is always somebody that says "well, you can't prove anybody else was involved in ___ incident.") and the device kept disconnecting their monitor device from their pacemaker. Turns out, there were several other medical devices that were "glitching out" at that convention, ones that had never had such issues at any event before. Its great that you want to put on display any "useful" or "positive" uses such a device may provide, but then leaning heavily into how many websites will provide potentially hazardous or outright dangerous upgrades to such a device...it is really disappointing to see from the rogues. I shouldn't be surprised, I suppose. Deviant Ollam has a history of siding with and defending groups that would later go on to harass countless cities countrywide and even participate in the Jan 6th attack...
