Your video production is beyond excellent. Very good explanation of the game mechanics and very clear zoom in views of the game components. This game really looks good in so many aspects. Game mechanics is really clean and streamlined.

I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your videos! The time you spend setting up and preparing makes them enjoyable to watch. If only you had videos on all the games I am looking into. If you don’t already could you put these videos on BGG? My iPhone won’t let me use the video window that android has, BGG video links allow me to cheat that restriction and have a windows open while I use other apps on my phone.

Thanks for the kind words Heather! Just posted to BGG. Should be up in the next few hours.

Pete, I love your videos and you're my go-to teacher for heavier games but I noticed on the KS page that you're listed as one of the creators. Maybe in the interest of full disclosure, it'd have been nice to know how you're involved and that you're not just previewing this game as a KZbinr. You have skin in the game, i think that's an important disclosure for the viewers to know, at least I think so
@ModernTablegamer3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tae Jo, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I just checked out the KS page and can see your point. This is misleading and I will ask them to change it. I am not a creator, publisher nor designer on this nor any other project. Just a KZbinr who loves board games who has a day job in an unrelated field. What I state in the intro of this video is my connection to this game. I am receiving no compensation other than my review copy.
@lemilfy3 жыл бұрын
@@ModernTablegamer Awesome, thanks for the clarification! I noticed that several notable KZbinrs are getting involved in game creation with rulebook writing and such, so I assumed you were doing something along the line. Without any other information to go on, I thought it was fishy to see you face among the creators. Thanks again!

Wow, such a nice overview and tutorial! I'm intriged by this game, but also by Voidfall... Any thouhgts or comparisson? This one seems cleaner, faster and more elegant though, and a campaign mode is a plus, but I'm not sure! XD

Thanks Andres! I’d be interested in what others think regarding your question. I haven’t looked too much at Voidfall yet.
@timv62453 жыл бұрын
I went to watch a teach and play video for Voidfall…. And it was five hours long. That enough was to tell me that game wasn’t for me. While long game sessions can be fun, the teaching time is a bit too much for my taste. I much prefer more condensed play sessions, maybe two hours, for a single game. The complexity of that game seemed like that of Anachrony, and I could not wrap my head around that game. I think Fractal offers a much more simpler take on the 4x genre - though I’ve never played a 4x game, Fractal seemed much more inviting to learn and play. It also seems way easier to teach, which works with my gaming group as none of us want to wait an hour before actually playing the game. I’ve also backed their previous project, X-ODUS, and was very pleased with the production quality and gameplay, so I expect Fractal to be on par with that, too.

I was originally gunning for Voidfall until I saw this game. I think a fair analogy may be Voidfall is a twilight Imperium weight game, and Fractal is the new Eclipse weight game. I agree with Tim, the sleekness and dynamic appeal of fractal's rules and play I find far more appealing. I am not a fan of games where the rulebook needs to be referenced on every player's turn. I really love how concise combat is in both games, but not a fan of knowing the results of every battle before they happen like it is in Voidfall. Also aside from all that, I find the design and game presence of Fractal far nicer than voidfall. Both games look great, and I would not mind trying both, but for me and my group, Voidfall would never make it to the table.

Thanks for your video. How long is the game, when 3 or 4 persons are playing?
@MineAndrej3 жыл бұрын
the box says 35 min per player. SO I would say it will take at least 2h till 4h if you are someone who takes time to think about the next move

So is fractal the base game and beyond the void is like an expansion ?
@timv62453 жыл бұрын
Yes. The campaign offers additional content in the form of more playable factions and “modules” - variants that can bend the rules and offer more choices for the players. The selling point of the campaign though is the story and legacy system, and although you could easily take all the expansion content straight out of the box and use it in the core game, the campaign offers players the satisfaction of unlocking that content through each play through (determined by which choices you make throughout the campaign).

I’m concerned that in era 2 the random objective card could lead to some players being in better positions to score points from purely luck.

@TheShapingSickness3 жыл бұрын
This game looks great but I'm really scared of all those cards for the tech and research that you can buy. Rising Sun also had a similar market for cards and it was single handedly the worst aspect about it, and made all the players not want to play.
