In Mauritius we also have a Waqf Board, but the government will never touch it, because the Waqf Board works with the government in various matters. So no animosity like in India. This is true democracy, respecting each individuals needs and aspirations unlike India. In Mauritius freedom to own properties regardless of race, ethnic, colours and affiliations are primordial.

In 1921 the then British government introduced HR & CE act (Hindu religious & Endovement act) and Wakaf board but after creation of States all state governments changed HR & CE act into Devaswam Boards and it's members are the nominies of ruling political parties and the temples and it's landed property became revenue lands acess lands above 25 acre became government land in 1970 under Kerala land cealing act. , the temples incomes of rich temples goes to government treasury like money in crores, gold and silver in tons the devotees who create temples incomes have no right in temples administration and the excess funds are not using for the welfare Hindus by providing educational institutions or hospitals for employment opportunities but the wakaf board are free from government control they occupied tha land without giving any record of ownership instead other property owned by private parties are claiming as wakaf board properties. How it happened the appeasement policies of political parties like congress and other regional parties considered as their vote bank.
