Consider the scenario where INC brings a no confidence motion against the Modi government. The government falls and elections have to be held again. In case ONOE has already become an Act, elections will have to held to state legislative assemblies also. Some of the parties(in opposition or in NDA) may want to bring down the government. However, some of these parties wanting to bring down the government but ruling in states may be dissuaded from voting in favor of the no confidence motion to save their own governments in states. Think of Chandrababu Naidu who has just become CM after remaining long in wilderness. Is this fear driving the government to vigorously push through ONOE?

One point that seems to have been missed is the short term objective. Diverse state elections over the next 5 years is likely to cause more BJP defeats as Modi's popularity wanes. Defeats are expected in many Hindi heartland states. So, with ONOE, the result will come once and be done for next 5 years. Also, it will be his ticket to extend his PMship from 2029 to 2031. The other risk is that if the result is not in favor of BJP in the states (for example WB, Karnataka etc), their minions can trigger communal violence causing the Union govt to imposer 356 and keep it in President's Rule for the next 5 years. This evil design needs to be defeated.

One was of reducing cost of elections could be passing a law that forbids any sitting Minister to campaign during elections except in his own constituency! That would limit the fight among only those candidates who are contesting. Fancy rallies will be abolished. Cost would be down drastically.

It is unfortunate that India has a leader who is more interested in travelling abroad, shake hands and embrace/hugging world leaders which he doesn't do in India. It is unfortunate that such a leader doesn't attend all sessions of Parliament. His first biggest blunder was ‘sudden demonetisation’ which has more costs than income to the exchequer besides putting all the public into tremendous discomfort. ONOE will be another blunder which BJP wanted to do. Some leaders are thinking that they will live permanently to see 2047, 2147 etc. Very sad! Let BJP try to ensure that all the public are convinced about the present EVM and EC.

Accepting date of effect of condtitution by parliament was not taken with consent of states,is it not against federal spirit?Kovid comitee has recommended 2029 as effecting year after 2026 delimitation exercise.So it is not in haste of implementation.Katan Thapar should pronounce Surname Palshikar as Indian and not as Falshikar as Englishman.

The real fear of opponents is 1. Modi is too popular, 2. ONOE will help BJP, 3. This may lead to a Hindu rashtra. I think this is paranoid. Also federaliam is subordinate to union, we are federal in structure but unitary in spirit. Finally unity is basis commonality of characteristics, not diversity of characteristics. How is differences between states compromised by one day of election.

Take Sikkim for example, in legislative assembly election, local state issues are important and elections are fought on that. But when state elections happen along with the national election, then national issues will overshadow state issues thereby small states will lose their voice. 1) So ONOE is against small states 2) it's is against parliamentary system. If executive has lost the confidence in legislature, then also MP/MLAs across parties would simply give support to immoral parties, so that they are not thrown again in the election stage, that too when this election will be for only the remaining terms of 1-2 years. 3) There is a famous quotation in computer science, "if something is working then don't change it unnecessarily" otherwise we will have to test all other scenarios again. In polity it means, it will take another 10-12 years to settle the basic system of elections which will inadvertently require multiple supreme court rulings. India has many other bigger problems to solve like boosting manufacturing, increasing productivity of agro sector, improving education sector, fighting climate issues, tackling water scarcity and so on!!

It would be nice to have one nation one election as the current largest problem in india is racism and casteism . Elections stirs this problem and divide the people into groups for their own benefit. Hence if Elections can be done once..the fight will happen only once not every other while.
