Fabulous to hear from such an enthusiast owner. On my 80gs paralevel in 2000 I put the Winderlich lower footrests which vastly improved my comfort

I moved the fuses from the headlight shell of my 1983 R80RT and installed a mini fuse holder from Vehicle Wiring Products mounted on a 3D printed mount located under the tank onto the main stem of the frame. It has the more modern blade type fuses, not the ceramic ones which are fiddly and prone to unseat themselves. The headlamp shell is already crammed with wires and moving the very basic fuse board out is welcome... I can check or replace fuses by simply opening the seat and its there.

Good idea. Not something I have to consider for my GS fortunately, since the fuses are under the side panel. But coincidentally my buddy Tim, whose R80/7 appears in the video about a duff alternator rotor on here has just been having the same issues. I’ll pass on your solution to him.

I had 4 additional electric loads I wanted to add to my '95 PD, driving lights, heated vest outlet, gps and volt meter. I fabbed up an aluminum mounting plate and positioned it just above and to the right of the existing one under the left side cover, so they are all in the same location. I piped the wires thru a non split nylon wire loom running around the back of battery. It gets a bit hot there due to the muffler being close by, but nothing has melted yet 😉.

I did a simple lighting mod that allows the low beam to stay lit when the high beam is on. Much better lighting towards the sides of the road for deer avoidance. You solder a tiny jumper wire, no insulation needed as it is so short, at the terminals in the left hand light switch. 104K miles and no issues with it at all. Cheers!

Does the charging system keep up with both beams lit? Do you have a more powerful alternator fitted?

Due to additional hella 450's I installed, total combined 110 watts, I had to put on an Omega 400, and I could run it all IF I kept the revs high enough. Since then I have added my wife to the mix... electric vest, and this started getting us in trouble in the cities so I recently upped the game with that new Omega 600! Vastly improved low RPM Output!!
@motophoenix59512 жыл бұрын
@@matthulstrunk6977 yes I can imagine you need the extra output with all that electrical load. Us airhead riders should consider ourselves lucky I guess that so many great accessories are available for a motorcycle that has been out of production for 27 years 😊

Another great video. Got to a listen to a guy who has covered over 400,000 miles. What battery are you using ? I had an Odyssey PC680 that was absolutely great until it wasn’t. Just failed without warning
@motophoenix59512 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard that about Odyssey batteries before. I have always stuck with traditional lead-acid batteries so far. Imo they do the job perfectly adequately. My brother had Odyssey battery in his RT for a long time he liked it.

Hi, have you removed the trumpets from the air intake? If so, did you modify carburettor jetting or anything else?🕊Ernie
@motophoenix5951 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ernie, Yes there are some modifications I have made in an attempt to improve breathing and efficiency. Currently the bike is running with the following modifications: I have removed the intake trumpets. I am using a stock air filter. Other than that, there are no modifications to the carburettors. The cylinder heads are dual plugged and there is a slight increase in compression ratio. Ignition timing is set to 0° at idle. I have fitted a Siebenrock sports camshaft. The exhaust system has had the oem silencer under the gearbox removed and replaced with a Y-pipe from BMW Bayer and the original rear silencer has been replaced with an oem copy from Keihan. Hope that helps.

@@motophoenix5951 Thanks, your bike was so smooth on the ride around Abberton Reservoir. When I first had my bike I experimented with various main jets, needle positions and different trumpets without reaching any conclusion regarding improvement. I have an old Keihan Y-pipe with a Hattech Y-tube on order and I may change the OEM silencer. Been using a K&N air filter for years. Feels like time to remove the trumpets again.

Charging light resistor, so bike still charges if bulb burns out.

Good idea. I am aware they exist, but I have not considered fitting one; don’t know why, maybe I should.
