What is the difference between standard proctor test and modified proctor test?
Answer by: Arvind Tm on Quora
Both standard and modified proctor tests are used to measure the optimum moisture content of any soil and maximum dry density.
Standard proctor test - whole soil sample is compacted in 3 layers with 25 evenly distributed blows on each layer with 2.5 kg rammmer and free fall of 300 mm.
In Modified proctor test- whole soil sample is compacted in 5 layers with 25 evenly distributed blows on each layer from 4.6 kg rammer with free fall of 450 mm.
Due to higher compaction in Modified Proctor Test we usually get the Max dry density and Optimum Moisture Content More as compare to Standard Proctor Test.
