Modified DX-399 reception on 28, 18, and 14 MHz in SSB mode. This model has a 1 kHz step mode on shortwave, so the analog BFO is tunable within just a few kHz, which works well with the radio's 1 kHz digital steps. On the left side of the set, there's an on-off switch for the BFO. In my other videos, I show the small BFO module with hand-inserted surface-mounted components.
The speaker was replaced (it was faulty anyway) to make space for the BFO module and switch. The modification turned out very well. I've already modified 4 or 5 identical models.
The Sangean ATS-606 is essentially the same model, just with a different label.
I recorded these videos in battery mode with the telescopic antenna extended.
