We used to weld a big washer on the end of a bolt and attach it exactly like this one. Then you can rotate the washer, to close or open up the exhaust. Worked perfect to tune dragpipes. Turn it 90 degrees and you have full blown dragpipes, turn it back and it would give you backpressure and less noise. And anything in between.

Too late 15 years ago I bought rush slip-on . I still have the originals. This rush have worked ok . Not loud but when you twisted the throttle it will bark👍🏼

I bought a "performance tuned" Harley Davidson Centennial Edition Softail Standard in Vivid Black. It's beautiful! The best thing the previous owner did on my Harley Davidson, was to save the factory parts he had removed when he had it tuned. When I bought it, it had a Vance and Hines short pipes setup, installed with no baffles. It was extremely loud. It also has a larger than stock aftermarket carburetor and aftermarket ignition module that has been tuned to maximize power. It was very loud when I brought it home, and made popping sounds on deceleration that sounded like gun-shots. It was pretty much unrideable. The throttle response was snappy to an extreme. The previous owner paid good money for the tuneup. He wanted it that way, but in the end didn't ride it. I bought it, and I hated it. Mostly the loud popping sound it made when I let off the throttle was simply too much. So, I re-installed the V&H baffles that were unused in the box of goodies he gave me with the purchase. Thank you, Previous Owner! That was better, but it was still too loud and still popped some. So, finally, I put back on the nearly new factory pipes with baffles. Now it sounds better! And, there is no more popping on deceleration. It turns out, I like the factory sound! Next, I'm going to see if I can re-install the factory carburetor and air cleaner. The aftermarket one works, but the gas mileage is an unimpressive 37 MPG in mixed riding. The ram-air design air-cleaner is too large. It forces my right knee to stick out into the wind, so my foot tries to blow off the peg at speed. I think Harley Davidson factory balanced everything out pretty well with the original design.

Congratulations on your new bike! Yes, you’re right. It was designed perfectly in the factory. You don’t want too many crazy modifications else it just gets worse in every respect. Factory carb is excellent. Only a few tweaks and it works well with even louder pipes.

I put a 1/4" thumb screw in my 1-3/4" drag pipes. It is enough to increase the low end torque a lot, without sacrificing the sound of the pipes. It just lowers the tone a bit, and takes out the reversion.

Just get a long steel drift and a hammer and knock out the center plug of the baffle. This will leave the baffle in and will allow for the exhaust to flow straight out giving a nice sound and better performance.

We used to use freeze plugs. You drill a bunch of small holes in them then tap them into the end of the exhaust. I think we tanged the edge of the freeze plug a bit to make it bite into the pipe as it went in. State Troopers in Texas were hard on us loud exhaust guys. Good video Aron!

Thanks for sharing, great design, the washers can be changed out to different sizes without having to disassemble each time. I just went and did this to my 2004 Harley Roadking with tc88 with 3.5 Rinehart true duals, SE breather and 211 cam. I used the 1.5 washer in the baffels about 2 inches in. The sound after install is deeper and the bike seems to be more hard hitting. As soon as it quits raining ill update.

Bit different with the screaming eagle. I got my screaming on currently. I put the lollipops further in the pipe where the baffle is secured. ( used the same hole) and with the carb set up properly, I get no decel pops at all. Your carb might be set too lean or too rich

So I have a soft tail standard and want to have loud pipes. After all I need people to hear the bike coming from afar to stay more alert 🚨 of the impending hazard we can cause if you’re not paying attention. I’m not persuaded to follow the noise pollution laws as my life is well above someone else’s sensitive hearing. With thy said. Will I need to make smaller lollipops for my pipes?
@aronsgarage834
@aronsgarage834 3 жыл бұрын
Even if you make the lollipops smaller it won’t make it much louder. You won’t even notice it. That lollipop size will give you the best performance with this exhaust. These modified pipes will give you a pleasant rumble that is louder than stock, especially when you are accelerating. At idle or low steady speed though, it’s quite soft. If you want something substantial, I would go for screaming eagle or vance & hines. I use these ones in the video around MOT, and it’s ideal to use them on long trips/ tours, but then I usually end up putting my screaming eagle back on for more bark. I like both to be honest so keep swapping them lol

I’m not really sure about yours being a new model. I don’t know if you can take out the baffles that easy. Plus you got the catalytic converters in there. These mods work best on these older pipes with no CAT in them. But if you do manage to do it, I’m not sure how it affects your bike since yours is an injection model. Mine and all pre 2007 are carbs and we tune them quite easily once exhaust has been opened up.

Hey nice invention good sir! I've recently gotten my first bike being a 2005 Yamaha xv250 Virago and have seem tons of videos of people drilling g out their baffles with the hole saw, but a few others where they would simply drill 4 holes into the metal around the baffles too. I haven't drilled the whole baffle out yet though due to a few people saying it would mess up the "back flow" and thus would need to "rejet" their bike? Not totally sure what all that is yet so I just drilled the 4 holes hoping it would still retain some pressure for the "back flow/pressure. However Itz not the same sound I want as it is by just taking the whole baffle out. My question to you is: would this lollipop idea remedy the whole back flow/pressure problem for me or would I still have to "rejet" my bike or carb or whatever it is, cuz I know that's not a cheap fix from what I understand which I can not afford at this time. And would I use the same size or go bigger/smaller? Thank you for sharing and i hope to hear back from you! Take care
@aronsgarage834
@aronsgarage834 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, It would definitely remedy the reversion/back flow problem but you will also have to adjust the pilot/mixture screw to make it richer. Not sure about re-jetting. It may need that too because it’s a small engine. I think it’s best to do more research on this. Cheers,, Aron

@@aronsgarage834 thank you for replying! And cool sound good, I think my bike is running a bit lean cuz I looked at the spark plugs and there's no gunk or anything really at all on them. Idk if you would know If this is a problem or not, but is it normal for when I start my bike, I said the joke all the way to the left and it revs really high and gets the bike started in everythingBut when I move it over 3/4 to the right it idles super slow then if I push it all the way to the right the rest of the way, it picks up again to I guess normal idle speed? Is it supposed to speed up again after it slows way down 3/4 the way to the right? I tried letting it idle at 3/4 the way where the idle is super deep and low/ slow last night but I think it like flooded the engine due to being too lean? Cuz the bike wouldn't start again till this morning and even now it's still having weird throttle response. Can this be fixed by adjusting the air/fuel mixture or the carb idle speed? Or adjust the other engine idle speed on the other (left)side of the bike? Thanks for the help and very much appreciated any advice or tips!! Also idk if this is any indicator of the bike running to lean but when I'm starting or idling the bike I smell gasoline quite a lot and can't remember what I read that being an indicator for. Thanks!
@aronsgarage834
@aronsgarage834 3 жыл бұрын
@@iangroover1188 if you smell gas, it’s running rich. To start with, I would highly recommend taking off the carb, taking it apart and giving it a good clean. Especially the slow circuit. Then see where your pilot screw is at and adjust once assembled.
