And not just the transmission, also the motor itself, which already is prone to heat issues due to reduced sump oil capacity (5 litres) and the crazy recommendation of 0 - 5w oils. So bearing issues incoming. There is an aftermarket sump that increases oil volume by 30% and many use 5w - 20w instead.

@wyattfamily899710 сағат бұрын
As I understand it, this model is recommended to use 0 - 10w oil, and the sump volume has been reduced to around 5 litres. An aftermarket sump is available that increases oil volume by 30% (which assists in cooling too), and many run 5w - 30w also as it holds its lubrication properties better/longer. The recommended oil is far to light, and the reduced volume means it can't cool as much as it would with the more usual, larger volume. Expect bearing problems (failure) if under heavy load for prolonged periods like towing etc. without aftermarket changes.
@Spoonfed788 сағат бұрын
If it's sold with tow rating and associated gcm and it's not engineered to do this, let it burn and get a new one under warranty. That's ridiculous you've got to do motivations likely voiding the warranty because of bad design

Hey Mate, looking good. In relation to rear wheel carriers, I just spent 2 years touring in a 200 with a rear wheel carrier. (Now have a Silverado 2500). They add a lot of weight to the rear axle due to the cantilever effect of the weight. I also found it painful to access the rear of the wagon. Give that thought when it’s decision time. Hi Jake, you mentioned in your video that you ran 10 gauge wire to charge your van. If that is what you have done you will have all sorts of problems as the voltage drop is too high. Those wheels look awesome ! I had similar tyres on my 2.8 Fortuner, the bigger mud terrain tyres absolutely killed the performance when towing and I had it tuned with 600nm. I had a torque converter lock up kit and a trans cooler, the lock up kit was much better at keeping the trans temps down (trans doesn't get hot when it's locked up) I had to tow in 4th gear (equal to your 6th gear) as it would not hold 5th gear (your 7th gear) with the bigger tyres . This meant using more fuel and doing dpf regen a lot more often. In NSW it's not legal to remove rear seats unless you get it registered as a lesser seat vehicle, if you are concerned about being legal I can send you the relevant clauses.

I can see why you added air bags with the tow ball loads you have but by removing the bump stops if you hit something hard and or the air bag fails your rear wheels will lock up under the guards! The big wheels look nice but they add about 25% extra LOAD ON THE axles AND DRIVE TRAIN and the added rolling resistance puts more load on the engine and gearbox. That's fine for a weekend play toy but for a remote touring rig that's close to its tow/weight limits the factory reliability will disappear out the rear view mirror

Hey mate you might want to check the owners manual with regards to towing. If the 250 is the same as my 200 series you’re not supposed to tow in drive to avoid over heating. I tow in 4th gear in my 200 which keeps the torque converter locked and running cool. Also towing above 90/100 kmh is not really a good idea. Just my opinion but i would read the manual. BTW i have the altitude on order for pick in April. Keep the videos coming.

Different Gearbox, specifically its not from the 1990s like the 200s is. It locks every gear, so heat is irrelevant now. Same as a ZF8 speed, tow in any gear, doesn't matter.

Just check the legality of beadlocks mate. I wasn't sure if they were legal and googled it. This is what Mr Google said. It may be wrong but I have heard they were not legal. Maybe different states have different rules. If they are not and they cause an accident, your insurance company might wipe you like a dirty one. The stripes look bloody good I reckon. Tyres are too big IMO. All the best for your future travels. I like the look of the 250. Beadlock wheels/rims are designated as strictly for off-road use (only). They are not legal for on-road use in Australia because they have not yet been approved for use on sealed surfaces and do not comply with existing vehicle standards in accordance with Australian Design Rules (ADR).3 days ago
@andyg999110 сағат бұрын
Beadlocks are 100% illegal in Australia (for light vehicles, on road) simply because the way the ADR's are written. Essentially, in Australia, everything is illegal unless it has been either been approved under other complying schemes (such as European regulations and are EC marked) or have been tested and found to meet ADR requirements. At the moment, no one has tested beadlocks for road use because if it was to occur, it would still only be legal for that specific wheel and tyre combo, and would not be a "type" approval for all beadlock wheel and tyre combinations. There are some manufacturers of wheels that do offer beadlocks that are EC marked (eg Hutchinson wheels from the US), but I dont think the importer has bothered with trying to obtain Australian approval , at least not for light vehicles. Hutchinson is the manufacturer of the beadlock wheels for the Unimogs and although I haven't looked into them specifically, because they were originally designed and used for military vehicles, Im pretty sure they have EC approval which is why they are allowed to be used on road for the Unimog.
