Merry Christmas Lil, Jake and Hazel. Thanks for creating content week in and week out for us to watch at home. I couldn't in a million years do what you guys do as my mental health would suffer. Sending you a big hug of support. To anyone that feels the need to leave a nasty comment please remember kindness cost nothing. If you dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all. More weight more fuel more heat in the trans. bigger wheels tyres more rolling resistance more heat in the trans.

And not just the transmission, also the motor itself, which already is prone to heat issues due to reduced sump oil capacity (5 litres) and the crazy recommendation of 0 - 5w oils. So bearing issues incoming. There is an aftermarket sump that increases oil volume by 30% and many use 5w - 20w instead.

As I understand it, this model is recommended to use 0 - 10w oil, and the sump volume has been reduced to around 5 litres. An aftermarket sump is available that increases oil volume by 30% (which assists in cooling too), and many run 5w - 30w also as it holds its lubrication properties better/longer. The recommended oil is far to light, and the reduced volume means it can't cool as much as it would with the more usual, larger volume. Expect bearing problems (failure) if under heavy load for prolonged periods like towing etc. without aftermarket changes.
@Spoonfed78
@Spoonfed78 8 сағат бұрын
If it's sold with tow rating and associated gcm and it's not engineered to do this, let it burn and get a new one under warranty. That's ridiculous you've got to do motivations likely voiding the warranty because of bad design

Hey Mate, looking good. In relation to rear wheel carriers, I just spent 2 years touring in a 200 with a rear wheel carrier. (Now have a Silverado 2500). They add a lot of weight to the rear axle due to the cantilever effect of the weight. I also found it painful to access the rear of the wagon. Give that thought when it’s decision time. Have a great Chrissy

Hi Jake, you mentioned in your video that you ran 10 gauge wire to charge your van. If that is what you have done you will have all sorts of problems as the voltage drop is too high. You need to run a minimum of 6B&S (6AWG) to charge your batteries. Also I think driving at 110km with a van on the back is crazy and in most states illegal.

Those wheels look awesome ! I had similar tyres on my 2.8 Fortuner, the bigger mud terrain tyres absolutely killed the performance when towing and I had it tuned with 600nm. I had a torque converter lock up kit and a trans cooler, the lock up kit was much better at keeping the trans temps down (trans doesn't get hot when it's locked up) I had to tow in 4th gear (equal to your 6th gear) as it would not hold 5th gear (your 7th gear) with the bigger tyres . This meant using more fuel and doing dpf regen a lot more often. In NSW it's not legal to remove rear seats unless you get it registered as a lesser seat vehicle, if you are concerned about being legal I can send you the relevant clauses.

Hey ya L&J. From where I sit, your rig is look’n tops. We have the 250 as well and for our trip around the block, I’m contemplating taking the middle seats out and leaving the rear in. It may not suit you 2 with your lifestyle, but for us it’s even more weight removed, better utilisation of the extra space and when we are home and not travelling, the extra legroom in the back seat is like a limo. As I said, may not suit you but food for thought. Love your channel and honesty, but then again what do you expect from fellow Tasmaniacs.

I can see why you added air bags with the tow ball loads you have but by removing the bump stops if you hit something hard and or the air bag fails your rear wheels will lock up under the guards! The big wheels look nice but they add about 25% extra LOAD ON THE axles AND DRIVE TRAIN and the added rolling resistance puts more load on the engine and gearbox. That's fine for a weekend play toy but for a remote touring rig that's close to its tow/weight limits the factory reliability will disappear out the rear view mirror

Agree about the storage and things in the Ranger, but I still have the Ranger until I sell it, and switching between them I care less and less about those things the Ranger has. Hey mate you might want to check the owners manual with regards to towing. If the 250 is the same as my 200 series you’re not supposed to tow in drive to avoid over heating. I tow in 4th gear in my 200 which keeps the torque converter locked and running cool. Also towing above 90/100 kmh is not really a good idea. Just my opinion but i would read the manual. BTW i have the altitude on order for pick in April. Keep the videos coming.

Just check the legality of beadlocks mate. I wasn't sure if they were legal and googled it. This is what Mr Google said. It may be wrong but I have heard they were not legal. Maybe different states have different rules. If they are not and they cause an accident, your insurance company might wipe you like a dirty one. The stripes look bloody good I reckon. Tyres are too big IMO. All the best for your future travels. I like the look of the 250. Beadlock wheels/rims are designated as strictly for off-road use (only). They are not legal for on-road use in Australia because they have not yet been approved for use on sealed surfaces and do not comply with existing vehicle standards in accordance with Australian Design Rules (ADR).3 days ago
@andyg9991
@andyg9991 10 сағат бұрын
Beadlocks are 100% illegal in Australia (for light vehicles, on road) simply because the way the ADR's are written. Essentially, in Australia, everything is illegal unless it has been either been approved under other complying schemes (such as European regulations and are EC marked) or have been tested and found to meet ADR requirements. At the moment, no one has tested beadlocks for road use because if it was to occur, it would still only be legal for that specific wheel and tyre combo, and would not be a "type" approval for all beadlock wheel and tyre combinations. There are some manufacturers of wheels that do offer beadlocks that are EC marked (eg Hutchinson wheels from the US), but I dont think the importer has bothered with trying to obtain Australian approval , at least not for light vehicles. Hutchinson is the manufacturer of the beadlock wheels for the Unimogs and although I haven't looked into them specifically, because they were originally designed and used for military vehicles, Im pretty sure they have EC approval which is why they are allowed to be used on road for the Unimog.

Looks awesome, those dark rims were an awful choice by Toyota. Toyota say they wanted that heritage look for the 250, then they shouldn’t have chosen dark wheels. Your choice of wheels is a huge improvement to the appearance of the vehicle and suits the heritage theme. Those stripes is a hugh tick for following the heritage theme. I say that because, my uncle’s 60 series had a similar stripe.

Like the rrims but have a look at the Method 701 and 707's with Beadgrip. I think Beadlock is illegal on road?

Gday Jake. I just wanted to mention, the way u promote ur sponsored things is first class. It’s great the way u do it. Just straight up, but incorporated genuinely (it seems 👍) into ur yarn. With some other channels it’s got a bit much. I completely understand ppl in ur kind of gig need sponsors, but it does get painful how it’s regularly done. Anyways, just sayin I think ur onto sumthin. I like ur channel, but I don’t like the prado. But that’s great, cos everyone’s different, n I enjoy ur content. Merry Xmas to u both. Travel safe. 👍🍻🎯🇦🇺

Not a fan of silver wheels but with the side decals they look very neat so you have to keep the decals after the bush wraps

Just remember, changing your gvm doesn't fix your gcm, so many people up their gvm to fix their weights, but it just costs you more because people forget about the most important thing gcm

Every gvm I have done has a gem increase also, I have not found a gvm only upgrade, is this a state issue.

Hi Jake just from watching your video putting larger diameter tyres on your vehicle will not show the correct speed it will read slower than what you are actually traveling ( actual speed will be faster , also if you are considering oil cooler for the transmission make sure that it is connected only te the external oil cooler I have seen to many mechanics put the old cooler and the new cooler joined together defeating all the benefits of the cooler as the external cooler will cool from the air flow and the internal cooler is heated up through the coolant temperature hope this makes sense regards peta

The stripes make the Prado look like a 60 series. But they look great.

Hey guys loving your shows but it is hard to hear you talking when Lil is holding the camera and the other way around. Also when you are driving when you are not microphones up.

More money than sense, should have bought a 300 series upfront.

And still need airbags, roof rack, tranny cooler, decent off road tyres, and pay an extra 30k. Yes the V6 in the 300 would be better for towing, but would still need the same as what he has added to the 250. His money to do what he likes with.

Have watched L and J for a while now. Glad to see you are smarter than Toyota engineers. Smart move on your 7 year warranty that you don't have. Finish it off with a power upgrade ,and all the other smart stuff you have thought of including your 35mm offsets. Go back to what you know. Forklifts ! Sorry for this as I do like you both but you really need to run your ideas past f2f and Ronnie over a crap beer that f2f likes, but Harry can really cook and Ronnie really knows his stuff , use his knowledge to your advantage.
