For the USA - I suggest getting the dollar store foam board (Dollar Tree?) and just removing the paper off one side!

Thanks for the video...very informative so now I know how to do my bus diorama .... Tamiya masking tape is best used for the AK asphalt and you need to spray it lightly not dab it as it will bleed through the masking tape....love the idea of the pavement...

Great tutorial on this! And thanks for sharing your pitfalls and work-arounds on the stripes. It always takes some experimentation to get things right, but you did a fantastic job.

That square pattern actually matches up pretty close to Wyloch's tile dimensions. I've made a bunch in sci-fi style and so this would allow me to seamlessly continue the grid across different pieces. A1, good stuff!

I do love Wyloch, in this case this is unintentional but interesting! Happy it would work out for you.

The masking step was giving you trouble because the road has a very gritty texture. Which makes it hard for the masking tape to stick cleanly. The only recommendation I can think of is to use a finer texture for the road, or try sanding it down it before painting the base coat.
@TerrainMadeEasy
@TerrainMadeEasy 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and apparently it can be sensible to go over it in your base colour before you do the special colour. So maybe like black and then yellow. Not sure if that would work either

I think it looks great! I especially like the sidewalks and the dividing line color looks very realistic. The crosswalk markings look nice too and I can see they were not easy to do but I like the whole layout. Thanks for sharing your method on making this board.

When you mask for your street marking, paint the black over the mask (it will bleed under the masking a bit and fill the gaps) and then go over it again with the white. I've heard that it improves the results.

Wow - This is a really useful and well made video! Thank you so much! :D Im about to start this exact build myself - but Im going back and forth on whether I should use 1 by 1 tiles like you or 1.5 by 1.5 (like Sorastro). If storage isn't critical - what would you chose? What are the advantages/drawbacks for both? Also, can I use 6mm foamcore instead of XPS - or is that a bad idea? What is your opinion there? Oh, and if I want to make a few park-ties, how would you integrate them into this set? :) Thanks again! :p

I'd go bigger if I had more storage space. But I wouldn't over think it, either will be great

Think this is you best build yet. Decorating tape is better than masking, but it’s a bit dearer. Then is no chance of it bleeding. The tramac paint, does it add a lot of texture? Great video young sir. Keep it up.
@TerrainMadeEasy
@TerrainMadeEasy 4 жыл бұрын
For the texture stuff, yes it adds a nice amount of texture, I really like it. Very realistic. Some of my stuff is just made for a video and I only make 1 or 2. This is something I am personally hoping to use so maybe I spent more time on it. Interesting on the tape, will have to try it! Thanks

Maybe stippling over your stencil with less paint? Like halfway between a dry brush amount and an over brush amount?

Can you tell me what is the size of each panel please? I not sure waht i have hear in the video. Did you build a 3x3 or a 4x4. Marvel Crisis Protocol use 3x3 i think? Nice job. I like it very much. 5 stars.
@TerrainMadeEasy
@TerrainMadeEasy 4 жыл бұрын
Ahh yes, sorry if I didn't make it clear. Yes my panels are 1 foot by 1 foot. And I made enough for a 3x3 board. I know some people do 1.5 by 1.5 but I have limited space to store etc. Thanks for your kind words :)

So I'm a big dumbdumb and never really took much interest in the tech subjects while I was in school... can anyone tell me what the name of the technique that was used for creating the curves on the crossroad piece is so that I can look it up for myself? That portion of the video isn't explained and the footage goes too quickly for me to make sense of, presumably because it's a common technique, so I want to look it up.
@TerrainMadeEasy
@TerrainMadeEasy 3 жыл бұрын
I am sorry I didn't go over it so much. There's two ways you could do it. One is to get a compass and just eye ball it. But to measure it all I did was this.Pretend you aren't going to do a curve, so you make the corner piece son the cross road straight lines, so like a normal square., right angle, whatever you want to say. And then measure, say something like 1cm away from the corner on both lines, then just connect them with a hand drawn curve. Basically all you need to do is do it without the curve, then measure a set distance away from the corner, then draw in the curve best you can. Does that make sense? I would be happy to chat on discord or some place if you are struggling.

@@TerrainMadeEasy Thanks for making a reply for me! No need to apologise, it's just me not understanding a small detail that wasn't all too important to the overall project. With your written explanation and a bit more reference from the video I was able to get it and made a decent looking rounded corner, so thank you! And thank you for originally making the video too.
