- Damage numbers by "SirFloIII": Adds floating damage numbers like in RPGs (altered by me to make numbers stay on screen longer)
- No black lines in map view by "Dune1411": Removes the black lines near the edges in the map view (for better filming/less crappy youtube compression)

The Grand Artillery Finale to the Ultimate DeathWorld Challenge is scheduled for premiere next friday (currently in early access on www.patreon.com/MichaelHendriks)! That series has grown so so epic, that after that bombastic feelgood finale, it will then need a second, more technical finale (prob feb 10) which deals with the problem of Quantum Biters in the void... Do they exist? Or not? Or... Both??? And just when you think all was going well... well...... About my side project (this series), I haven't decided yet on how to continue. I'm leaning towards a long livestream to see if we can get the 15-hour-rocket-achievement, and if we succeed, a non-live compiled video going over getting all the other achievements. As I intend to take a small break after finsihing the Ultimate DeathWorld, I don't yet have a schedule for that. Anyway, enjoy this episode :)

this series has grown on me a lot the more i watch it. i think initially i found it a bit boring because much less was going on in the earlier episodes and in general compared to your highly edited main series, but with more stuff happening now as it goes on it is more relatable and familiar to see you doing stuff like almost driving into a biter base (we've all been there lol, though not quite the same as a base full of behemoth biters) or seeing the panicky mouse waving trying to fill all the turrets. thanks for making great videos

However I'd find it even more impressive if the game is beaten under the production limitations imposed by pollution.

I don't think so, early on expansions will settle too closeby, later on it probably takes less time and resources to protect the land with pipes than to go deal with unexpected expansions popping up now and then

In order to prioritize oil without circuits, why not build a ~10 pipe diversion between the pumpjacks and the tank-farm, with the pump at the tank-farm end? Since the oil refineries would then be 'closer' to the pumpjacks in terms of fluid flow, they should get fully supplied, but the excess would still go to the reservoir.

The pump going to the buffer tank is a bad idea, as any oil going into that system is not going to be able to come back out without intervention and it will starve your refineries. The way you have it now will drain the left three to your buffer and your refineries are powered by just the right three. Pipes instead of pumps to the buffer would still fill up with excess and would be able to drain back once the wells start to dry. If you are worried about each pumpjack filling the pipe it directly outputs to, a tank instead of a pipe would work. You could also output the buffer to the production, instead of splitting the outputs of the pumpjacks.

Geez, it's been longer since I played factorio than I thought. The simple oil refining directly into just petroleum blew my mind. I'd thought I noticed flamethrower ammo being different too.

A simple oil processing "recipe" was added in version 0.17.60 (Date: 30.07.2019), which only produces petroleum. It's much less efficient, but it makes the beginning simpler as there isn't much you can do with heavy/light oil until further research.

OK, question: How'd you figure out the 16 entities per corner thing, and what exactly is the rule there, or is it just a heuristic? Like, is it 8 entities per chunk (on opposite corners), or some sort of non-chunk-caring radius from an entity, or... ?

switch on debug info (enemy expansion chunks/values), find a big area with green chunks with value 1.000, put pipes down in different patterns until you find one which is satisfying to look at. Oh, and if the number of pipes strike a good balance between costs and expansion chance reduction, that's a nice bonus. This setup (with 8 pipes per chunks indeed) reduces the expansion chance value from 1.0 to about 0.1. Not sure if the game code takes that at face value (like 10% compared to 100%), or if it does some more math with the number which reduces the chance even more. I suspect the latter, as I can't recall biters going for a non-green chunk, like, ever really, in any of my sightings over the years.
