In this video I build some modular steel barricades for Kill Team, but they could be used for any modern or post apocalyptic tabletop game from 40k-Gaslands.

That 45° cut at the corners was so brilliant! These look fantastic and even though I'm not running any post-apocalyptic games, the wheels are already spinning in my head for D&D. Castle jail, anyone?

I could see repeating the concrete base at the top, giving it a more giant wall feel. embellish with some dwarven runes here and there. great dwarven outpost/prison facility! tons of possibilities.

I'm curious to know what you mean by "new format". I haven't really done a specific format change, over time I've just evolved slowly getting the format down to what I think flows best. But I'm always curious to know what is working and why. Feel free to elaborate, it helps me.....or not, I'm just glad you're enjoying :)

@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial The last several videos do seem to have a fresh flair to them. I think one reason is that you're showing stuff that works alongside the stuff you didn't like or had to adapt to overcome. That adaptation path has been really illuminating and I feel like a better crafter after seeing how you pivot.

I think most viewers of this stuff are interested in more affordable options. Cheaper and bulk materials tend to be better for terrain projects, with the added benefit of trial and error sometimes finding fantastic results. Using w/e most applicable GW option doesn't help people improve much. It's nearly paint-by-numbers by design. All that said, though, if you're put off by the time in work and likelihood of failure in experimenting, GW, Vallejo, etc. have great if expensive options to just get on with it already.

I know this sounds like extra work but if you find dealing with adhesion a pain look into some plastic adhesion promoter. Its basically primer for plastic and then you can move directly to sprayed base coat. I think you can get it on Amazon but I get it at my local body shop supply store.

great video. Hope you're enjoying time off camping, have a Happy Father's day! These scream for some wall-clip sort of things to easily brand them with flags, emblems, or signs for whatever game you're playing; Space Wolves, Skaven, Vault-Tec, Star-Finders, Are 51, Willy Wonka, or whatever flavor of game you're into. Very Cool. I hope you expand on these and try doing some wall connectors, 2nd floor add-ons. Maybe weapon add-ons, like a laser turret or something? Tesla Coil zapper thingies! great work as usual!

I enjoy your videos because they spur me to think of methods I can use based on what you've done. I'm focused on Age of Sigmar (Warhammer), so even though I won't be building any 40k barricades, your use of the knitting grids caused me to think of your review of the brick pattern rolling pins and how a cheep alternative might be made for those of us on a budget. The great thing about those grids is that you can make any pattern you want of different sized bricks, including designing "errors" that builders might have made by not offsetting some bricks or using half bricks. Once cut out, just use a Dollar Tree rolling pin over the template on your foam, and, Hey, Presto! you've got a home-made brick pattern!

Just an FYI, most airbrush applications that require a sharp line uses masking to preserve the areas you don’t want the paint. While it is possible to narrow the spray, you should always mask to prevent overspray.

Looks great! I used the same mitered corner base design for my palisade set. Super useful! The only suggestion I would make for this project is to swap out the construction paper for strips of styrene. It's a bit less fiddly and tedious to work with, though you'll pay more for it over paper. Maybe even some narrow styrene channel stock for an easy little extra detail. I really love the look of your finished pieces!

The issue with the plastic not sticking is probably from the finish it gets in manufacturing, can't really sand it though. Love the idea of using the primer, the accelerant will start to eat in to the plastic and help it adhere, a light wash of acetone and a few minutes of dry time before the coat of primer should make it stick way better, love this, gonna use some of this for an atlanteian theme im gonna do soon

I like the use of chipboard sandwiched between the two pieces of granny grating. Would plastic card work just as well? Plastic comic book dividers are an inexpensive replacement for the chip board, especially if you work in a comic book store or can find them used. The comic book backer boards are also a good replacement for chip board, but aren't as thick. I've glued two of them together for a solid material. If you have a friendly local comic book store, most boxes that comic books are shipped in have a piece of cardboard inside the bottom of each box that is very similar to chip board. Some have pieces between the comic and on top. Most comic book stores end up recycling them or just tossing them out. It wouldn't hurt to ask for them as the worst thing they can say is "no". Recycling of materials destined for the landfill as terrain is awesome!

Nice video as usual if you wanted more metallic to be on show try using a sponge to stipple the rust over the metal I find that using a dryish mix on the sponge can give the rust texture as well this also gives the rust a very slight raised surface which can add to the rust effect but that's a matter of taste.
@Bluecho4

A bit late, as this is an older video, but in retrospect, using drywall mesh tape instead of granny grating would make these barricades easier to construct and paint. You'd lose a bit of depth on the grating, but the labor savings alone would make it worth using. Drywall mesh tape is just far easier to work with.

Can't wait to use it though, you're the reason i got it and also i bought it through your affiliate link. I appreciate all you do for the tabletop community and you're an inspiration to me man. Keep on crafting! P.S. I've already made your mod podge base coat and your brown and black washes... I did notice with the wash though that once it sets for about a day there's a layer that's settled on the bottom like it's separated and i had to vigorously shake it up to get it mixed again. is this normal or did i add too much of the matte medium?
