Hella good Dom! I had to do a Homer Simpson "DOH!" when I saw how straight forward it is to use velocity to create different triggering points from keyboard pressure, to activate parts. Great stuff. I'll be watching more for sure!

I think it’s the role of the manufacturer to provide the user with documentation and manuals to fully master their instruments. Products cost too much already to pay middlemen more cash .Anyone old enough to remember the Heathkit company ( 70’s) and the amazing documentation they provide as we built their electronic kits and see them work flawlessly! Amen .

Great video. I find many Montage and MODX videos to be too long and complex. I prefer these short 3 minute lessons. Some ideas for future videos, using arps, using a multi with external sequencer/daw, setting up a vocoder, assigning parameters to the knobs and the superknob, setting up insert fx per part and setting a master fx.

Hi Dom thanks for all the great videos ! I will be picking up my Montage 6 tomorrow . I have been playing an s90xs for the last six years and really love it. I notice that there are quite a few third-party sample libraries available for the montage. My question to you is will I be able insert these third-party samples along with internal voices from the montage to create a Performance in the montage ? Thanks and keep up the great videos !
@DomSigalas5 жыл бұрын
Glad you enhoyed it :) The Montage is compatible with Motif files but if you want to take full advantage of the Montage engine I would suggest you look into dedicated libraries for the Montage. There's some really cool ones on Yamahamusicsoft.com, some of them free (CS80!)

You just need to press the button next to the slider to switch from parts 1-4 to parts 5-8 :) same goes for elements.

Hi Dom. I tried doing a piano/bass split by adding a piano sound to one of the electric bass sounds, but the piano came to the performance with a weird chorus effect that I couldn’t get rid of! Was this because the piano picked up the same effect that was already applied to the bass in the original sound? Does this mean that it’s better to start with Init sounds when I want to split or later sounds? It seems that whenever I try to layer or split the sounds loose some depth. I need to figure this out ASAP cuz I have a gig on Saturday please! 😄🙏🏼
@glennparsons56443 жыл бұрын
Did you ever sort this out. I have the same issue. I’ve got my piano sound exactly the way I like it, but if I split the keyboard and add a different sound my piano sound seems to lack volume.
@khalid69493 жыл бұрын
Glenn Parsons Hi Glenn. Yeah I kinda figured out how to control the sounds when you bring them into a different performance. You need to find out what’s affecting the sound and just delete it. You can also import any assignment that you had in a performance when you merge it with another. There’s a detailed discussion about it in yamahasynth.com forum Regarding your piano lacking volume I’m not sure what’s the reason for that. If you’re adding the piano to another performance then yes the piano will be affected by the master effects of that other performance plus any other assignables that are affecting the entire performance, you can find those out and delete them if you don’t want them. But if you’re adding another sound to the piano then that shouldn’t change anything

Bro how in the world to turn the sustain off on the bass patches .. When I split bass and keys the bass line " finger bass or electric bass " sustains when I use the sustain pedal.
@jeanplasnier93725 жыл бұрын
Thanks for another video Dom!. Can you make a video explaining how to use Montage with Logic or any Daw without the sound changing... For example: Every time I add a new External MIDI channel in Logic to add a new sound on the performance in Montage, the sound changes like the EQ or some effect from the Montage. So it doesn't sound anymore as if I would play it directly into the piano. Is like logic changes the parameters in the channel of the performance. Even when I start a performance from scratch. When I do just like you did there in this video and add new sounds when I play them as "MIDI Rec on DAW" in Logic it doesn't sound like when I play it on the keyboard. Even with the Send FX off. Thanks!
@dzod5 жыл бұрын
In a multilayered performance every part or layer has its own midi channel. All parts are triggered simultaneously via the keyboard. When you switch to daw mode it only transmits 1 midi channel and you only hear 1 layer. You need to go into utility/settings/advanced/midi i/o mode change to single. You would use multi mode if you wanted multiple midi channels on your daw to control multiple parts on montage. for example if you wanted to play a midi file with a GM soundbank.

Good morning Dom, I didn’t know you made the intro for the MODX6+ that is amazing. Wow! I’m conflicted between the MODX6+ and the Roland Juno X. I am a newbie and would like to know your thoughts on both of these. I’m looking to learn to play piano for fun and also synthesis as well. Hope you’re doing great, AJ
@DomSigalas10 ай бұрын
Hey AJ, if you’re talking about the promo video, yes I wrote and produced the music for it, thank you! They are massively different synths. The Juno X will give you the Juno sound- if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s amazing. If you want to learn how to play the piano I would suggest the MODX+8. Not only it has all the sounds you will need and amazing pianos but it is a beast of a synth. If you know what you’re doing you will be able to create any sound imaginable! I suggest the 88keys because these will allow your fingers to be trained for a real piano. The synth keys are great but most piano teachers dislike them myself included. Hope this helps!
