@TheOtherJackBlack the new adage should say, "Customers always think they r right!" (Altho, the old one does mean the customer is always right whether they r or not.)
@brookelord3448
@brookelord3448 9 ай бұрын
@TheOtherJackBlack actually there's 3 possible origins. Another is "Right or wrong, the customer is always right." This is a metaphor. It means "don't argue with the customer." Sometimes when a person is wrong, the best thing to do is agree with them. Explain why they are right and they proceeded to explain why they're wrong without saying "you're wrong." I call it the "Yes, but" method. "Yes, you're right. I'll change the shower head BUT I have to change the cartridge too or the new shower head will leak." When you agree with people, they stop arguing. That's when you should politely give the correct information.

@alexs2778
@alexs2778 9 ай бұрын
Those cartridges can be such PIA to remove especially on properties 20-30yr old (like original ones when property was built). Moen makes all brass one that they designed for commercial properties and that one you can just rebuild with kit but trim and handle is another story especially that tine hex screw holding handle down most of the time even with WD40 and other stuff still won't come out to release the handle. Also constant leak is due to water being released under pressure so it's most of the time seals unless some other part of cartridge developed a crack. The 4x4 tiles can be cut with same multitool and carbide tipped blade just don't try that with porcelain tile though, they also have small diameter diamond blades for Dremel and other small cordless saws that can do small cuts nicely with them.

Hard water. Mine looks just like that, too. I use a drill brush and Bar Keepers Friend -- Really shiny and pretty. But after the next shower, you couldn't tell that I did anything. That's why he had to cut off the handle. The screw was stripped, because it was cemented by the same deposits that clog the showerhead holes and what caused the cartridge to fail.

Most people don't know how to watch. But it's not his house, it's yours. You should watch, although quietly. That way, if he starts banging on the furnace with a pipe wrench in a fit of pique, you can question your life choices. And with an unknown company, you must protect yourself. 1. If there's not mutual agreement about your involvement, just watch quietly 2. If there is anything you need to know when he's gone, ask and take notes! Don't depend on memory. You won't remember. 3. Tip...if it is deserved! And not the $1.26 you got in change from your lunch. That's an insult.

@@Benni711Exactly, as a plumber, I think it's totally ignorant to ignore the reason why tradesmen have a bad rep. The key to being good at your job (because your job includes customer service and sales, not just fixing problems) is to assuage those preconceived notions, not think that the customer is just a dumb**s and that you're superior to them.

I Had a misfire that would develop as the engine got warm, but when it started to misfire you could get it to kinda clear up if you floored it, and with that and the fact that I confirmed it wasn’t ignition, I came to the conclusion that is was most likely a dirty or bad fuel injector, ran some fuel injector cleaner and seafoam through it and nothing changed; since the vehicle was my parents at the time, they weren’t too fond of the idea of me “fiddling” with it (I’m fairly mechanical competent) and so they sent it to a mechanic; it took him 4 weeks to figure out exactly what I said was most likely the issue; I’ll give him some credit for going through the motions of diagnostics, but kinda wish he would have done a compression test and then just tested the injector. I’m not your average person who doesn’t know anything about vehicles, (I’m not a master tech, but I can for sure do a fuel injector) so when mechanics ignore you knowledge it’s kind of annoying; but I get it a bit because you get people that think they know everything and are blatantly wrong.

I know this sounds weird, but I always stay there with the electrician/ plumber/ dish guy to see what they do for these reasons: 1) Make sure they don’t take anything that isn’t theirs. 2) Learn what they do so I can fix it myself. 3) See if what they did is worth the money they ask for (it really never is because they make 10 times as much money per hour than anyone I know and last time the plumber that came to my house charged for an 8 hours job that they finish in 30 minutes 2500$ total to change a 3 foot hose that I could have done with no equipment and they didn’t even need to look for it beca I told them before where the problem was exactly). 4) To make them feel welcome if they are nice people, and make sure they have whatever help they need while doing their job like moving furniture or clearing out the work area.

If it's never worth the money then why don't you do it yourself? That "hose" you mentioned, do you even known what it was called? Would you have know what to do if something broke or otherwise went wrong while it was being replaced? People conveniently forget that you're paying for a plumber's expertise and their overhead, but I wouldn't expect anything less from the kind of guy who assumes everyone is out to steal from them. Some people are so far behind in the race that they actually believe they're in first place.

For those asking, I’m not doubting the experience, but what I am saying I make fixes like that all the time for my house, boss and friends and i honestly don’t see myself charging them that much for such a simple task. And just because you have the equipment to do something, doesn’t mean you should be a jerk to charge an outrageous heartless amount of money for it. I work at 17$ an hour before tax and I’m happy with what I do. When you want to charge 1500 for an hour of time, be open and honest about it. You can’t just surprise the client with additional fixes. And finally, yes I have been stolen from by a painter before, and that’s why I keep my eyes on the guy making fixes in my house and I have all the right to do so.
