I have one 2 years old survival world I play and I would say that advice is to CREATE new worlds. I'm constantly starting a lot of new worlds with different chalanges (flatworld, skyblock, beta ect.) on the side and after few days of playing these worlds I going back to my main world with new ideas and double motivation to make something big.

Great point honestly! Sometimes the "gaming vacation" can still be WITHIN Minecraft! I spent a few years during my "slow period" on my flatworld playing in a Realm I made for some friends in college and it was so fun because I got to experience a bunch of features I didn't have access to in Superflat and also play with other people.

Yeah, I'm currently have a pretty big main world with max Netherite tools and armour, tons of shulker boxes, a massive sorting system, lots of farms, etc, but I've taken a break and just started a new world because I wanted to try it in 1.18. I don't know how long I'll be in this new world, but after taking a few months break, starting this world definitely rekindled my interest in the game. I'm still only wearing iron, but it's a lot more fun for a change as there is actual risk of me dying and I can't easily get everything back or replace it Edit: 4 months later and this new world is now my current world as I have basically the same kind of maxed out setup, but I prefer what I have built and now use my old world as a creative world to test various things. Definitely gonna stick with this world though as my old one was fun, but kinda a mess with just random builds that have no link scattered around the place. This new one I have an organised trading hall, a bigger auto storage and an actual goal as I'm building a custom village, so I'm much more motivation to play on this world (plus my other world had achievements off). But I can picture some real big things I want to achieve in this world, which is why I think I'll stick with it for a lot longer while remaining excited to play. Even with my other world I had no real goals as I felt I did everything, and my base area was too much of a mess to really develop so I was never as excited to play

One tip I have: if you want to restart, you can put everything you have in a chest. Then grab a stack of rockets and an elytra and just fly as long as you can. Then simply burn the elytra when you land and you basically have started again, without creating a new world

or go to nether 10000 blocks out and burn all ur gear if netherite just let despawn and it would be much more fun coz u get a new scenery rather than overworld

Especially great because you can revisit your old stuff and see all the great stuff you did in the past. also, if you want to start over but don't want to completely abandon your stuff, go on a camping trip a few thousand blocks away and just return when you're done.

I have 3 different base from a single world, this 3 bases are somewhere in my world, as I play in my mobile with regeneration off and every time I die, I start somewhere... or if theres a new big updates like the aquatic update, I start from a new regen place

Quick tip if your neurodivergent! The "make large goals" doesn't always work. I constantly have large ideas but I freak out and don't even start them because it's too much. Turn one goal into 10. Rather than "Make base centerpiece" with an elaborate drawing, try breaking it into "Build archway, build fountain, add lights" and enjoy each little goal. It's easy to lockup when you want to start on everything at once

I started a multiplayer survival server for my kids and my best friend's kids when they were pretty young, over 12 years ago. They stopped playing and my friend and I kept building. Now, two of my kids are married and they and their partners have started to play on the server again. I can only imagine how cool it will be when they have kids, and they start playing...yes, we have tons of resources, including a fully automated rail system I built using command blocks. But occasionally, I just head out into the wild with nothing. So many options! So much still to do!

@@johnnydurte ok, yeah. Command blocks are not available in survival. As @Kruz Vaughan says, I made that trade off to make the game a bit more fun, allowing people to move more quickly around a large map. I could have just done teleports for that matter, but everyone liked still travelling via rail and since those had to be built out in survival, it seemed like a minimal cheat. Currently, our map is about 6000 by 4000 crisscrossed by rail lines about ever 1000 blocks. I also use a structure block to place the intersections, since they contain a few dozen command blocks to work. So, while in survival, I place a specially named piece of paper (a "permit to build a 4-way intersection") in the upper left inventory slot and that creates a structure block below my feet. I then power it with a button and poof, the intersection is placed. So yea, definitely a cheat, but as minimal as I could while still making it scalable and fun long term.

@@johnnydurte You're right. I had to do a "gamemode creative @s" in order for me to create/edit command blocks. But once I had the routing system working, I no longer need to go into creative for it to keep working. Being able to access the command block directly from survival would be awesome.

2:40 A similar thing happened to me in my realm. We had a "government" building where we voted on things for the realm and it was nearly all wood. Lightning hit it while we were busy fighting a raid and couldnt put it out. Instead of being upset we replaced the burned planks with dark oak and wrote minecraft books about 'The scorch of 376'. Having that history and seeing the mark of that event on the realm motivates us to keep playing and more importantly, made us realize that bad things were not bad but gave us chances to make up lore for the world.

We've been going something similar with creeper explosions. If it's of a building it has to be replaced with other blocks, if it's just grass, replace it with coarse dirt blocks or something back. Adds some organic life to the would.

One of the things that has positively effected my enjoyment is turning on keep inventory. Maybe for some people it spoils the fun but for me I hate losing my stuff because I fell in lava, or losing my base because I can’t find my way home. Being able to jump off a cliff and be right back at my base without losing anything is so nice. The game rules are there for a reason, you’re meant to adjust to to what you find fun!

Yes. I for one greatly prefer games with fast travel (despite so many people disliking features like that in other games) so yeah I'd definitely prefer to be able to instantly go home without losing my gear than waste an exorbitant amount of time going somewhere just to have to go all the way back. It takes twice as long, and it really adds up!

I think a big reason superflat and skyblock worlds get such big builds is because there isn't much else to focus on than what you've made. No distractions, just you, your resources, and your aspirations.

the "play how you want" bit really resonated with me... i remember in my old worlds, whenever i died and lost all my stuff, it took all the steam out of me. no rage quitting, just...respawning and being like "wow. i have nothing now". it'd be really hard for me to keep going. and then one day... i realized it didn't matter it wasn't the "real" way to play minecraft, and i just turned on keep inventory. i've been having a ton of fun ever since :]

Minecraft have a problem with dying. Dying in that game makes most people lose will to continue. I guess that is why they added netherite stuff not burning and the recovery compass. Which for me is enough. It makes me more impatient having to sort my inventory again. :v

I personally find that I usually have more motivation to build and mine in survival without pesky mobs, plus I find that my builds turn out better on creative mode. I like gathering my own materials and I like the challenge of not being able to fly around while building something huge

I main hardcore now and I love it, but sometimes I do miss building through the night, with no torches and no armour, just me and my tools and a sketched-out build idea.

I went to a part of the map and told my friend I'm going to build a huge Bridge right here this was six months before I started working on it . 4 months after starting construction on the bridge that was 21 blocks wide 700 blocks long 52 anchor blocks 100% survival the bridge was finished and I did it mostly by myself

I did this with a game that already had lore and characters and it made the game even more fun to play through. Granted, the stuff I made up was silly and didn't make sense sometimes, but it's still really fun to do.

One interesting idea ive found has been to play hybrid creative and survival- One of my favorite "gamemodes" ive created has been amp'd, where you make an amplified world, build a base in creative, give yourself god boots (for navigation/exploring), and then just play survival. It's honestly so fun and really an interesting way of playing the game.

The key to longevity is to actually _enjoy_ making large builds. My worlds rarely last that long because you always eventually reach a point where the only thing left to do is build... but if you don't enjoy building you're going to get bored. I don't like making huge builds, its too stressful, so if that's not your thing focus on making a lot of smaller builds. Eventually those small builds will add up to something BIG. Its also good to try new things, and find out what you enjoy most. If you like terraforming, then terraform (its surprisingly relaxing), if you like making farms or redstone machines, go for it! Like advancements? Work towards every advancement. Do you like grinding out good gear, but already have a perfect set? MAKE MORE! Make fully enchanted leather armor just for the heck of it! Your Minecraft experience is only limited by your motivation and creativity, so think creatively and don't force yourself to do things you don't enjoy doing! Just do the things you enjoy doing and you'll have a good time doing it. :)

The biggest hurdle for me is the midstage, when you don't have to worry about survival stuff like food or basic shelter but also don't have the best tools and most efficient ways to get resources yet, nor do you have a really big base or other area setup where you can chip away at tasks.

This is very true for large modpacks too, just out of the vanilla beginning grind and moving into the mods where you have to generate power, build complex machines etc. Just getting established in all the mods is quite a hurdle and i often stop in the middle of it due to how much of a resource sink they can be.

I found not building till then to be optimal, just camp in the open, get all the supplies, get stupid amounts of chests with random stuff. And set it up in an area you have goals for. Once you’re ready to implement those builds. You have all the gear and set up necessary to get invested into design. Or you can keep camping with no home and fish and farm all day.

Every time I get back into Minecraft I start a new world.. I don’t know for some reason the only way I get obsessed with playing Minecraft is when I have to start from scratch, because early to mid game has always been more fun for me. I don’t feel pressured to build anything or come up with ideas, I have hundreds of hours of grinding to do that is already spelled out for me. Late-game Minecraft is boring unless you are motivated by big projects, but at that stage you have to actually be creative and I put too much pressure on myself, thus making me avoid playing…

A good method for this if you wanna keep ur world is to put all of your stuff in a chest (armor tools EVERYTHING) and travel thousands of blocks away from spawn, im talking somewhere you do not recognize, and then boom fresh start!!! Ofc this is if u still want to keep one world theres really nothing wrong with creating new ones but yeah!!

I completely agree. When it comes to survival games I always find the early and mid game the most fun. Once the challenge of surviving in a survival game is gone all that's left to do is try to find things to build. Struggling is the most fun thing in my opinion so I start a new world every time I get to the point where I have enough iron and diamonds to basically piss away without worry when I die

You might want to try out some mods to get new experience when starting over. When you get accustomed, try hardcore (aka expert) modpacks: it's when you have multiple mods intersecting with each other in such a way, that you can't move forward, if you don't use them all (or most of them). FTB and CurseForge have some good ones, but it may take some time to find those. Also, you can ask community, people will gladly recommend you something

The BIG thing that makes me keep playing is not being afraid to "cheat" in the world. At the moment, I always have keep inventory on and I keep the world in peaceful but let myself switch to easy or normal when I want to farm hostile mobs. Yeah, it makes it a lot easier for me, but I played Minecraft for 7 years without those changes and I felt like deleting my world every time I died and lost everything. It just makes it so much more fun for me and I don't have to deal with constantly battling mobs when I'm mining, which I already find tedious.

I'm actually sort of the opposite. Always used to run keepInventory and now whenever I start a new world, I make it a point to never enable cheats or switch off of Hard mode. Just means that I need to do a little bit of prep before I set out on dangerous missions (like getting extra armor sets for if I pass away and lose my stuff). As much as I loved not losing my stuff, I like the extra added challenge. But let's be honest, I will regret this one day when I fall into lava with multiple shulkers full of items.

other games inspiring your builds in minecraft is really true. I'm big on fromsoft games, and I've often tried to keep that oh so familiar interconnectedness of "levels" much the same in my builds. That's something that comes a bit more naturally in survival, but in creative it can be easy to lose sight of how to make your buildings better by making them functional.

a little extra for tip 5: yes, think big, but also split it up into smaller tasks. completing the smaller tasks helps keep you motivated and feel like you're getting somewhere, rather than just starting and by the end of the day looking back, seeing barely any progress being made, and thinking "why am I even doing this?"

Another pro-tip for lack of motivation: When building, make sure everything has a purpose. If you want to build a large castle, make sure it can actually defend you from threats, especially on a server. If you want to make a town/city, have it house villagers and start a "free range villager farm," this is so every project actually has a useful purpose with a good aesthetic on top of it.

if you'd like to protect your multiplayer base, maybe hide it a few hundred thousand to a few million out in the overworld (depending on how active the server you play on is) and only give the coordinates to people you completely trust

The main issue for me are updates. Everytime there is an update, it only effects non-generated chunks. Which is really annoying.

Personally I think it makes the world more interesting. It shows the history of your world! Once you update the game, your world contains chunks that can never be generated like that again. Besides, if you want to delete your world because you live far away from new chunks, you may as well instead migrate to new chunks and start over with however many resources you want to bring along there.

Challenging myself early on with a big building project slowed me down on progression a good bit and actually lead me into sticking to one world. 5 years running now and although I’ve built bigger and better things I remember how that first thing was done with stone tools and I just makes me appreciate it the most.

One tip I have, which I find really weird, is to watch a show or series alongside playing your world. Granted you will need a second monitor or a phone/tablet to do this, and it can be hard when you really want to focus. But Minecraft is a game that for me usually doesn't require that much focus, because I never find it being too hard. Being hooked on a show while playing Minecraft has made me associate it with the game. So it has allowed me to stick to my world longer when I also want to finish the show. It does become a little tricky once you do finish the show however..

Something I can personally recommend when it comes to massive projects: Obviously the part of the project we all look forward to is the actual project itself, but sometimes it can require a bit of grinding (Like digging out a massive perimeter) but if you remember to do a bit of building and a bit of grinding in moderation. For me, I can only play about 2-4 hours of Minecraft at the end of my night, so sometimes I'll just throw on my favorite music and let my brain turn off to do nothing but mine resources for a playsession. Sure, I'm not creating much, but I have the knowledge that the resources I'm mining are going to come in extremely handy later! Just try not to burn yourself out... Moderation is key!

Yeah this is good advice. Take a break from building by mining resources, then take a break from that by doing massive mindless terraforming, then take a break from that by doing a detailed creative build, then take a break from that by drawing plans out outside of the game, then take a break from that by mining resources, and so on.

I used to make and quit worlds quite frequently but at the beginning of quarantine I just deleted all those old worlds and started a single new one that I have been playing on since then. A lot of this advice does resonate with me and my world. I set big projects and allow myself to take breaks. I also document progress through screenshots and really just let myself have fun.

One tip for me that is pretty sad is that sometimes, you are just done with minecraft. I basically moved on from the game a couple years ago because nothing I did, challenges, hardcore, superflat, modpacks, etc. made me feel good playing the game. Thanks for the advice. I don't play much Minecraft, but in Don't Starve Together, I'm constantly creating new worlds and thinking, "Yeah, this is the one. I'm gonna stay on this one."...and then quitting after about 175 in-game days. I found out on my own in my last world that to-do lists help with motivation, especially when I keep them in a spot where I can just quickly drop in a goal and then keep playing with that goal in the back of my mind if I need something to do. Knowing that it already worked for me, seeing it on the list makes me excited to try all of these other tips out in my future playthrough(s)!

Same, I like being able to mess around without the fear of losing everything I sunk a bunch of time into. I accidentally crashed while elytra rocketing through the nether and "experienced kinetic energy" right over a lava lake? It's fineee, I can just go back there in 2 minutes. Terraria's normal difficulty is similar, you only drop money on death which isn't too bad since you can easily store it and you have access to remote storage fairly early on (it's like if you could craft an ender chest with just iron)

There is a sense of pride knowing that it was you that created all of this! And how amazing it has turned out to be. we've already long since taken the "play your way" advice to heart; we're playing on a HEAVILY customized modpack that isn't necessarily filled with a ton of mods, but we have a bunch of quality of life features and tweaks and changes based on howe we like to play! for example: - hunger is removed and food heals us instead - XP no longer exists and nothing costs levels anymore (anvil operations are free, enchantments only cost lapis, etc) - mending tools repair automatically over time (an average of 1 durability a second) - hostile mobs in the overworld (with the exception of non-trident drowned) only spawn below Y=0 at night, so the surface is generally very safe - creepers, endermen (we've renamed them Chorus Walkers), and ghasts can't destroy or move blocks - cobblestone can be put into the stonecutter to make gravel, and gravel to make sand. no more ravaging deserts for glass! there's plenty more but those are some of the highlights. making the game fit how we want to play has been GREAT for our motivation, we cannot recommend it enough.

I've done something similar in one of my minecraft worlds. I made several books with quills, set up a little underground hovel in a desert, and just wrote in it like a journal at the end of each day.

I'm gonna give 3 tips I'm unsure if they've already been said in the video but I'll reinforce them #1 Create a story. Humans love a good story whether that be through touch, smell, sight, hearing or taste but in the case of Minecraft its mostly visual, books are read because of the plot and art is appreciated because of the inspiration and uniqueness. It's the same thing with minecraft if you build the same house over and over again and do the same things repetitively it's going to get boring. It's inevitable, however if you create a plot/story about your world you will keep playing because you're the one writing the story it only stops when you believe the story is finished but even if in your eyes it is "finished" build a whole new story make a whole new structure or plot about this new civilization, you can make it practical like a place for your farms or you can just build it to look cool. (I find giving buildings a purpose even minute ones much more enjoyable but everyone is different). #2 Take regular breaks Creative block is also unfortunately inevitable as humans are infallible we get hungry, sleepy, bored, etc. Assuming you're following the previous step, story making can be challenging or feeling like you have a good story just a lot of work to do. Most important part about keeping a world is never bite off more than you can chew if you procrastinate on mega builds than it's simple don't build a mega build. "But I want to make huge grand structures" simple take it slow and steady and if you'd like, build it in creative first. It's really a situation of "what's harder? A. Writing an entire 200 page essay in one day, or, B. writing 1 page for 200 days. A, is faster but can be more messy and easy to procrastinate on. B, is slower but more thorough harder to procrastinate when it's only 1 page, Artists and Writers mostly follow B because a lot of creativity burns out when you're overwhelmed. #3 Gamemode If you love survival but you like having an option to turn off mobs that's completely up to you, perhaps you don't like losing your stuff so you turn on keepinventory or you don't like mob grieving so you get rid of it. Or if you're more of a hardcore player you can play hardcore without regeneration or half a heart, anyways point being the 3rd tip being game mode is don't let others influence how you enjoy the game. Minecraft is sandbox there is no right or wrong way to play minecraft single player don't forget you're essentially the God of a virtual playground you can do pretty much anything in minecraft. #??? Bonus Tip Single player can be incredibly boring for some people where it's really hard to care about something when you feel like no one else will ever appreciate it. However, that's why multi-player was created if you truly can't play single player for a story or plot or lore unfortunately it might just not be for you but you can still have a ton of fun with friends and there are countless servers out there at the end of the day minecraft should never be frustrating it's a game that was built for fun, to be played for fun. Hardest part I think is motivation and starting, ties into that you don't have to have an immediate full blown story or plot, but do take it into consideration when you need a reason to be invested. In my honest opinion if you follow the previous steps is just getting started is scary but exciting (hardcore gives me sandcastle mentality) Anyways if you read this far congratulations here's a cookie 🍪

One thing I figured out pretty early on, but had to relearn, was to build (and for that matter play) at your own level. Basically while you can and should plan for the incredible, don’t expect it right away or even really try to hard, just keep trying stuff and having fun, and eventually you will find that your builds meet and even exceed the crazy hopes you had at the start

I know I'm late to the party, but OMG all of this!! I'm currently in a lull (too many real life house projects), but I have a lore for my world and lean on maps heavy and it totally changed the gameplay. One thing I like to use is the Book and Quill for keeping track of projects (as well as coordinates, villager shopping list, etc.) and it's been really helpful.

A smaller tip that I've come to realize is vital, don't start the giga projects until you are giga-geared. A huge problem for me in one of my survival worlds was I wanted to do this overwhelmingly massive project but I had no honest idea what beacons or treasure enchantments were so everything was taking a really long time to get anywhere. I know that isn't always possible in whatever challenge you may be doing but it was a huge help for me in later SMP's

Tip 1- Document Everything Screenshots, videos, world backups, etc to see how far you've come You can also use maps, locking maps to see the different later against the current map Tip 2 - Frequent Backups Something bad WILL happen that will cause you to need to reset, like world corruption, a build blowing up, etc Tip 3 - Your World, Your Way Minecraft allows you to play in however you want, there will be people who will gatekeep, but they don't make the rules. You do. In my world I've disabled rain & fire, I've also changed recipes to make unobtainable things, obtainable. Tip 4 - To-Do Lists Staying organized really helps with what you want to do, you don't have to remember, "Ah yes, I need to get a few thousand logs to make X, as well as add Z decorations." Mog uses signs & dye to mark what progress his projects are. *I'm going to start doing this* Tip 5 - Huge Goals Make a goal so big, you don't know if you can finish. You won't have a clear vision of what the final product will be when you start a new world. Tip 5.5 - Lore (Optional) Add lore to your world, like why are some structures here. Incredible way to stay inspired. Tip 6 - Expect Lulls You won't always be playing Minecraft, & you shouldn't. Doing one thing will burn you out. You can play other games, do school, etc. Life isn't about one thing. You need breaks for everything. Tip 7 - Try Challenges I'm playing on a modded world, I've disallowed myself from doing cheaty options, like the entirety of Mystical Agriculture & ATM tools/weapons. Added challenge can help you keep going, or just make thing not brain-dead easy. Tip 8 - Collaborate Share the world download, see what people do to it, think of it, have a look at other's world downloads. Get ideas for things to build from others. Tip 9 - Keep Things Nearby I play modded so Ender Chests don't apply to me as they're kinda garbage in that environment. Keep everything nearby so you don't have to go "Agh, I forgot those resources!" Than have to go running back to your chests. Tip 10 - More Than 1 World You don't have to constrain yourself to 1 world, take a break to try other challenge ideas, get ideas for your main world.

Bedrock players might want to skip the maps, there is a bug that makes it so that the filesize increases everytime you open a new map. The game creates mapfiles but doesn't delete them, even if the map is destroyed. Not just that, but it actually creates five files, one for each zoom level, even if you don't zoom out.

One time, I started a new map that generated without any villages in it, so I had to build my own town and populate it with cured zombie villagers. I delete my worlds before I ever even make any progress in them. Most of the time I quit before I reach the nether because I die some stupid, unfair death. Other times I'll get to the nether and walk around for a bit before deleting it all because walking 1000+ blocks just to find a few blaze rods is utterly pointless and frustrating.

oh god did this video send pure raw determination into my bloodstream. as a person who just recently got minecraft and is too scared to even go mining in caves i had frustrations with mobs. i always wanted to get good armor and just deal with it but i cant ;-;. i opted for peaceful mode but i was scared that "am i really beating my first ever ender dragon in peaceful mode?" and i would get called a wuss for playing this game in peaceful. thanks for opening my eyes to realize that this is a sandbox and i do what *i* please. now i feel actually confident i can just play minecraft. and remember to some times take a break from competitive and rather hard game that make you stressed. video games should help you calm down and not make you stressed!

You don't get a few features which sucks, but I think Mojang is planning on balancing out the differences between the two versions.

Reallyyyy love the “Play Your Way” tip. I was trying to start a new survival world, and it just wasn’t maintaining my interest or enjoyment. So I thought about it, and I was like, if there are options to modify gamerules in such a way that makes it more enjoyable for me, why would I NOT do that? It’s MY world and play-through after all. I figured out that constantly worrying about mobs sneak attacking kept me in a constant state of anxiety that was just unpleasant; so I changed it to Peaceful/Easy mode. I also learned that I really love collecting stuff and exploring, and you run out of inventory space quickly. So I’m experimenting with using categorized shulker boxes from the getgo so I dont have to keep going back to chests somewhere to deposit items. I also have KeepInventory on for similar reasons-I dont like losing my stuff, especially when it took much time and hardwork to acquire. Its just demotivating for me. These settings just makes the experience more enjoyable for me personally. And, if I ever get bored of this playstyle, I can simply up the difficulty and change up these settings. It’s such a good feeling to let go of the opinions and judgements of others in this way :) Just play in whatever way works for you!! Minecraft is designed for exactly this type of thing.

One tip: Don't do hardcore, sure if u want a challenge do it but if your an average player trying to play for a long time dying in hardcore will just destroy motivation to start a new world. You can even make creative ways to get ur stuff back after dying

My tip:Sometimes you just have to grind it out. Not getting burnt out is important, but if you have a huge grindy repetitive project like digging a perimeter for your base just power through it. Otherwise you will catch yourself not wanting to play because of that project. Finish it and then the real fun can begin.

something i like to do is when i find myself bored, i drop everything a run really far away. I start fresh with nothing as if it was a new world. i keep the same theme of the world, but a new area. one of the mega projects i do on these worlds is making a road system or trails that connect all the "regions" of the world as well as I make lore that connects the regions, but every region also has its own independent lore that keeps to that region.

I have a 3 year old survival world that I run as a server on my computer and play every now and then with friends. It really helps you keep motivated once you start on a project. Plus they bring in expertise that I lack. It also has some server related challenges. Currently I’m working on making a giant hole in the nether roof and am trying to get a schematics mod working on the server so I can build something to automate that process. Probably my favourite thing to do though is to go into the server console and give my friends level 100 levitation and watch them fly thousands of blocks in confusion.

Until about a few days ago I used to just get wooden tools, maybye a stone pick and then make a really detailed base. And I just thought that theres no point in doing it, so I’d create a new world and the cycle continues. Glad I’ve got myself a good, permanent world! 😃

Playing your own way is vital. I had a minecraft world that I would spend 24/7 on until I lost my computer because I didn't make it miserable for myself. I didn't like losing my stuff without keep inventory, and I liked turning the gamemode to peaceful when I entered the nether. It made it was more fun and my goals felt more achievable because I stayed relaxed

6-7 years ago I was quite the world-quitter. Eventually I even quit playing the game itself. But now I'm back, and currently there's only three worlds I have and visit often - my main survival world where I'm slowly building my town, creative builds in superflat, and my test world. And different backups and creative copies of the survival world, which are purely functional and get refreshed from time to time anyway.

A tip I wanted to share with the lovely comments section is a simple one! Don't let failure stop you. I myself (an owner of a seven year survival world) have experienced failure so many times in the sense that a build has come out wrong, or I can't find the right thing, or I fail a project, but I've never let it stop me. One top tip referencing this is to 100% appreciate failure. I love failure on my world so much because it gives me ideas on where I went wrong and what I can do in the world to prevent bad things from happening again. (personal experience incoming) I used to use the survival world as a challenge, seen as I was too scared to actually do hardcore and just said "if I die, I delete the world". I've kept track of my deaths. Over the course of a lovely seven years, I've died a grand total of 1,029 times. That's.. That's a lot. Worth 1,029 hardcore worlds. And each time I've died, I've noted down why I died and what went wrong. Since my first death, I have mob traps, iron/snow golem guards as well as a fortified base. Even so, I'm still quite scared of it. After seven long and hard-fought (as well as hard-died) years, I still have yet to get netherite or even beat the ender dragon! I'm absolutely petrified. But that's normal; both things are HUGE milestones for any person in any world. Hope this helps?

I used to have a 10 year old world, too. I stopped playing it but kept it around in my world list. I was 5 when I made it and every time I would revisit I'd be hit by waves of nostalgia. I only lost it because my brother deleted my Xbox profile, therefore deleting my world. I'll miss you, Fun Land.

As the owner of a 1 year hardcore world, what I did was plan 3 big builds that I want to do. When I feel burned out on one of them or when I complete a major step, I switch to one of the other projects, like that I bounce between them.

I think that the "play how you want" is the most important. Make your fun, dont let other dictate what is fun, I hate building in survival, I dont find fun in spending hours grind to make a building that has no functionality over a big cube of dirt. I just build in creative, my longest survival was one that I build the entire city in creative and in survival I go filling the builds

Well I usually don't use elytra, I use spectator mode to travel easily without having to crash and kill myself everytime, and I usually always turn on keep inventory so I have a quick way of getting to base using /kill XD

The best advice i can give: DONT CHEAT. it is the quickest way to lose motivation, you cheated once whats to stop you from doing it again. you develop a whats the point attitude and the stuff you made and make legit just doesnt feel the same. your opinion on what is and isnt cheating can be different than mine, and goes along with the play your way tip, personally i use some clientside mods like minihud. but i see alot of people who use keep inventory get burnt out, and they refuse to play without it. when i think it would really help them continue playing longer. im speaking from experience, when you lose items, let them go, dont creative them back in

I have to agree with you ive recently made a survival world and i wanted to build my base but i wanted it to be a good one and not some boring wood box. However i didnt have the tools or the patience to mine all the wood i needed so i went in creative and built it. Hours wasted because once i went back in survival it didnt feel right :/

I've noticed that about myself too. It's better if I don't cheat. But I HATE dying and losing my stuff. I really wish there was a way to keep inventory without cheating. I wish it came automatically with easy or peaceful mode.

Eh, depends on the person. on my 2 year old world I literally switch to creative or survival depending on what my mood is. I do keep the projects separate though, so I wouldn't use creative to expand my first base, but i do for terrafforming and smaller towns

I'd say a realm is the best idea, because if a friend gets motivated to play they can just go in and do their thing. If it's on one persons PC, they have to be online all the time which sucks abit.

I have many worlds I stopped playing, but one I keep going back to. It's a world I initially created 5 years ago. Sadly it got lost, but I knew I had to remake it and 2 years in its different, but the main part is the same, my underwater megabase. I completely recreated it from screenshots. My best tip is read books, watch movies and have a life. Implement the beautiful things you encountered and imagined. I also visit my old worlds occasionally and take parts of those worlds I like and bring them to my main world or take inspiration out of it. Discover new Minecraft worlds with a twist as a small break usually new ideas come from it. Worlds you quit are less important, so go nuts every once in a while.

No one should tell you how YOU should play. Enjoy the game however you want to, if keep inventory makes the game better because you don’t lose your items when you die just use it! It’s there for a reason

I do use that option sometimes when I start making my survival world, yeah it's kinda lame when you lose your stuff, especially the valuable ones, I usually play minecraft my own way, I guess that's what the game is made for
