It's kind of a balance. You get the best footage by being really annoying and obnoxious when you film (handheld), but you're also a pain in the ass for the other people and it's also harder just being there in the moment for yourself, you kind of miss the moment by filming it. The best solution is probably the venue having 2 cameras in a good position, filming the whole thing. Maybe add in some handheld once in a while if something magical or extraordinary suddenly happens. Every little underground venue should have something like that.

I went to this show, and it was fantastic. I had just gotten wind of this band in a Rolling Stone article and pulled up some songs on the internet, I was hooked on them immediately. Turns out they were coming to Dallas the next week. At Gypsy Tea Room of all places. This chick I new at the Dallas Observer got me VIP tickets, and she was going to go with me but she wasn't all in to this type of music so I went by myself, and wound up sitting in the very tiny VIP section with Carlos D's girlfriend at the time. I wanna say her name was like Baxter or Bailey or something, she had kind of a boy's name. Very, very cool chick, she was telling me things about the band throughout the night. One of the most memorable concerts in my lifetime. It was just pure luck that I caught on at the perfect time to see them live. Gypsy Tea Room was such a great venue. I sure do miss it. You could get right up to the band. And because it was smaller in size the sound just resonated in the entire place. And Interpol that night was everything I expected. I'll Never forget it. I've bought every Interpol piece of music ever since. Still a little pissed at Carlos. We'll never know what could've been. They were so damn good, and still are, but I keep waiting for another TOBL which can't be duplicated, but maybe there's some more magic in Paul and Dan's soul yet to come

Favourite live show by Interpol ever. Carlos back in the day actually seemed to be into it rather than the deadass he eventually became. This was pre nazi, pre Wyatt Earp, when he was at his best. Paul's voice had the full range and was not cracking constantly like it unfortunately does now.
