में समझता हूँ कि बेहतरीन हिन्दी फ़िल्मों का जब जिक्र होता है, या उनके बारे में लिखा गया है तो दोस्ती को वो मकाम नहीं मिला, जो उसे मिलना चाहिए था! जबकि जिक्र हो रहा है दोस्ती के संगीत का तो एक बात यह बताना चाहूंगा कि इस फिल्म के साथ महान फिल्मकार राजकपूर की संगम भी रिलीज हुई थी, और संगम के गीतों को रचा था ग्रेट शंकर जयकिशन ने संगम का म्यूजिक भी बहुत ही शानदार था लेकिन जो सादगी और सरलता दोस्ती के संगीत मे थी वह संगम के संगीत को पीछे छोड़ कर उस साल के सभी श्रेणी के पुरुस्कार जीतने में कामयाब रही!

Every thing is fair in love and war. in 1964 Sangam composition was considered to be brilliant and incomparable with any film of that time but Dosti begs all the awards. Otherwise Shankar Jaikishan still acclaimed to be the greatest music director of all time and Sangam was obvious Contender for first place as for as Filmfare Awards are concerned. I also like LP music very much specifically in sixties and early seventies but let us face the truth and directly from horses mouth. recently in an interview by Shri Pyarelal ji where in he admitted honestly that they received 20000 rupees as music director fee from tara chand badjayta and Laxmikant Pyarelal spent all the amount in purchasing Filmfare magazine filled all the coupens and sent it to filmfare award management committee, truth shall never cease to exist even if it is ignored. this is how Laxmikant Pyarelal could beat the great Shankar Jaikishan but again let me conclude with my opening lines that everything is fair in love and war. Laxmikant Pyarelal win their first Filmfare Award otherwise Sangam music by all standards is still unbeatable.
